I am reading river of pain right now and love the parts where mamma and papa Jorden go into the derelict and find the long since dead xenos and engineers, embroiled in an obvious battle

Yes ali
I trully think the crestion of the king design will have a purpose and it was a teasing for fans.
I could see blomkamp tackle it for a5. Fusing his concepts.
I would love it to close ripley saga.

The only ones I've read so far are Aliens:Earth Hive,Nightmare Asylum. And female war.I've also read AVP:Prey and some comics.I'm currently reading Prometheus:Fire and Stone on the internet.I also own Alien:Harvest but haven't read it.
Of the old comics, the original three story arc of Book 1, Book 2 and Earth War were pretty sweet (though Earth War fell away rather badly). Best to be read with Hicks and Newt as the protagonists as an alternate version of Alien3 and beyond. The rewrite changing the names didn't really work - especially in Earth War.
Labyrinth and the original AvP series are also well worth a look. They all are in varying degrees.

Your talking where Hicks was changed to Wilkes and Newt was changed to Billie correct? If Earth war is the same thing as Female War than yeah that was my least favorite. The other two were quite good though.
Yeah. Book 1 became Outbreak (or Earth Hive in novel form), Book 2 became Nightmare Asylum and Earth War became Female War (which was a better title). Female War got edited due to some character relationships which I won't spoil, no longer being relevant.

just finished river of pain. good read and there r survivors from the colony so maybe another book may come out to follow them

I've read the comic that earth hive was based on but no longer have it.I'll try and read them.I believe they're on the site i've found. Thanks S.M.

ali81 I've been wanting to read that trilogy of books. How are they so far?

river of pain is the last one, set prior to burke telling ripley theyv lost contact with the colony and from the point mr jorden gets facehugged. the first 2 r directly linked. I prefer the first 2 as it gets into the action fairley quickly, river of pain takes a while but its depictions of the derelict r fascinating and really gets the imagination going about what happened
As much as I didn't like a marine contingent being at Hadley (should've had Colonial Marshalls instead) and some continuity gaffs, River of Pain was my favourite of those three books. Golden managed to make the character relationships relevant to the plot instead of just being arbitrary.
Unfortunately it was a missed opportunity in that it didn't touch on the 'last stand', how Newt survived, or the backstory of the colonist they found in the hive.

yeah I was a bit disappointed it didn't go into newts survival a bit more. well it didn't at all really. at least gave us an insight into going for food and water and how she avoided detection. I think though here comment 'they mostly come at night' pretty much gives it away

As you may know there is a comic series about called Newt's Story.I don't know if they're canon though.I haven't read those either.

River of Pain sourced some bits and pieces from Newt's Tale, but that too didn't go into any real detail on Newt's time on her own.

which site do u use to read these comics online? I know where to find scripts but struggle with comics though it is a works computer and many sites r blocked even if they have a slight connection to games

It called www.readcomicbooksonline.com.I hope it works. They have a lot of Alien comics among other things.I decided to try it out because a lot of people reference them. Also it cost absolutely nothing.

ill give it a bash. I like the books and comics and def think they should remain canon. not a huge star wars fan but I was really disappointed when Disney dumped all extended universe as canon. I know theres contradictions but theyr comics

find it hugely dissatisfying they said 'nope all that is dumped' and yet theyr probably gna use parts of what people came up with to explain things such as who snoke is. im betting hes a character from the expanded universe. sorry off topic

No problem,it's your thread after all.I haven't read a lot of the new Star Wars stuff yet.

Alright.Wasn't very concerned with the new stuff any way.I haven't even seen Rogue One.

im in no rush to see it. vader is only in it at the end I believe. would love to see his lair though. id say iv not been as stoked to see a film the way I am about AC in years

id like there to be a xeno homeworld, much like the comic with the red xeno and see how different hives co-exist

true, they don't make for very hospitable neighbours. not many street parties in that neighbourhood. still something id love to see on film though. think they went a wee bit too far with the queen mother

not had a chance yet. I got the trilogy (out of the shadows, sea of sorrow and river of pain) along with the alien and aliens novelisations. read the trilogy and a really good read. I got the fire and stone omnibus aswell and that was excellent. going to go online and see what else is available. any suggestions?

I don't know.I'm almost done with Prometheus:Fire and Stone.For a book,have you read Aliens:Harvest.

don't think so. I have steel egg which is a very good read. the books and comics give so many ideas about how things came together. river of pain took a bit to get going but out of all the books and comics iv read, this book gives me the most memorable aspect of the derelict (don't wanna spoil it though im sure I have in previous posts lol) and could so easily be done brilliantly on screen

yes. in the synopsis, it is headlined 'the first battle begins'. takes place in orbit around Saturn and earth has pretty much split into 2 factions.

not read that one yet. the books I have r kinda all over the timeline haha I also have a few avp books which r decent reads but I prefer it just being the alien
