Well, "holocaust" was never specific to jewish/nazi events simply because of its own definiton, so it can't be disrespectful to make a proper use of a term. Any reasonable history enthusiast will read it related to a lof of different events. Since its meaning is about sacrifice, if any application of it could be disrespectful, it would be exactly to apply it to the jews, since what happened was anything but a sacrifice. If someone used it strictly to a single event, he did it wrong.

@Ati I don't know about the corpses, but I didn't had noticed this "city-like" behind the "walls"(?) of the dome. The look of the structures reminds me of what we have in the worship room - the human(?) big head, the murals... it all seems to be part of the same culture. The question is: can we assure it's all Engineer's...?

So ATI is completely correct, and a Holocaust in general means the deliberate eradication or attempt of... of a entire Race or Religion.

So indeed had the Last Engineer not been stopped by the Prometheus Ship then a Holocaust  against Mankind on Earth would have happened... sometimes Holocaust and Genocide are interchangeable.

The Scene in question does look like some kind of Genocide/Holocaust event.

You could even compare it to a Sodom and Gomorrah type event where God had conducted a Genocide/Holocaust type event against those who God had deemed Sinners and wicked and un-saveable  in the eyes of God for their wickedness and disobedience against all God thought as Just.

@Ati I have a theory - the dome looks similar to Prometheus's in size and shape- and the rock formations in  prometheus even look similar in size to the statues around the dome in this picture. Could it be that this is a dome will eventually become  an abandoned dome with all of the deadly things that were in Prometheus? They dated the engineers at being 2000 years old and the storms are pretty brutal maybe it is  A similar dome but the ones in Prometheus I just are a lot more weathered due to the "silica" storms that can fry your suit

I can't speculate on the city though.-  maybe they move on and things get too rough.  all a theory of course.  Plus there looks to be something on top of the dome maybe it's a head that eventually get weathered and ends up looking like a scull like in  prometheus which seemed odd.

The trailer images remind me of the images of Jonestown.  Has anyone ever thought that this may be a mass suicide?  Perhaps they ingested something? 

No it is not "anti-semetic" to use the term "holocaust" in its proper definition. Stop being a snowflake and being so offended. And if it does offend you then leave the forum. You've actually been getting on my nerves in this place.

On the OP's topic, I think the bodies are very strange. Not only do some look very deformed, like they were in the process of changing, but they look like they died recently. No decomposition that I can tell, just general sootiness and black dirt on the skin.  Like they were drowned in Black Goo.

Farlander - I think there are a lot of buildings around the dome. These images are from the new trailer:

First I thought that the dome can be seen in the background here but then I realised that we see a mountain. In the distance on the left the tops of some buildings can be discovered:

This picture shows the buildings clearly on the left behind Daniels.

LVBank, I think the domes in Prometheus and the dome in the new A:C trailer are different. Look at this image, on the right there is the dome and its walls are totally different. This building is a much more sophisticated structure:

Two other images showing the fence (?)/some columns of the fence (?)/or just some columns... :) I think they can be found very close to the dome.

If I'm not mistaken there's a statue on the top of the column. It's hard to tell but it looks like a human-like creature:

I was looking at a Giger doc & found this, apparently concept art from Alien, I believe originally the eggs were to be discovered in some sort of temple vs. the derelict, & guess this might have been an initial pass on that idea. Looking at the stills from the trailer it looks similar: the striations running up and down (apart from the columns/crown at the top). Would be nice if they returned to some of the key art Giger made, that stuff was so evocative and alien.

going by the pics it looks like there is a lot of structure almost a metropolis and very romanisc  architecture or citadel . imo and great topic. Maybe the rebellion started here

Does anyone else notice that the crouched beings next to the dome have really odd shaped heads?  I still feel that the beings where Covenant lands are not Engineers, but a different species. 

It is difficult to make out the figures in those stills.  The dead ones in low light.  The first thing it called to mind for me was the burned bodies in The Thing that were burned while it was changing 

If you look at paradise lost, satan corrupts adam and eve, what if david and shaw left lv-223, found the terrible engineers, and then were corrupted and given a planet they could rule over, the one in covenant? Perhaps they ate tricked into using the black goo on a humanoid species.

To a degree yes it could look like the Mass Suicide, and although i am not sure this is the case here.. In Spaights draft of Alien Engineers the Infected Engineers where all indeed intending to Kill themselves.

This is another possible explanation, that maybe there was a Outbreak and there was some kind of Safety Device... just like when Janek and his Co-Pilot had to Nuke a Science Outpost on Earth because someone Split Something.

As far as the lay out of this Ancient City, then indeed ATI those columns are similar to what we have seen in some Ancient Earth Cultures.

The Source i had claimed that Paradise would have a Ancient Mesopotamia look to the Aesthetic but would also have some   Egyptian Influences  and some minor Greek/Byzantine too.

It is after all the aim to have the Engineers and their Ancient roots and Architecture to had influenced Earths Ancient Civilizations and that its not a case of ONE Religion/Culture existed on Earth but that all the more common Ancient ones was influenced by Engineer Contact and so its Logical that the Actual Engineer Homeworld carries over a combined Atheistic of a number of such Ancient Civilizations on Earth.

I'm just so thankful that Inquisitor Fifield is giving lessons on how to be respectful in the above comments. 

Here is another shot of the temple behind Daniels.

In Prometheus, Fifield used the word “holocaust” to describe the scene of carnage when he saw the big pile of dead bodies. With the scene we have outside the dome, I wonder if this was the same fate that befell the engineers in what Fifield describes as the holocaust scene. The word holocaust does have certain implications in its use, and I wonder if this was a deliberate use of the word holocaust to imply something. I think it would be interesting if the holocaust scene was connected to the dome scene.

Going back to Prometheus and the big pile of dead bodies, it was noted that some of the engineers had the hallmarks of chestbursters, which leads me to believe hat the outbreak that killed them should be answered by what we will see in AC. Maybe it will answer whether the use of the word holocaust is apt, or something else. Whatever the context, I think we can all look forward to bigger and better piles of dead bodies.

Wow it seems it is all coming together in speculation.  It really does look like a mass suicide if going along with Spaights script.  The images we have seen almost look like they are suffering a painful suicide-

It seems like a Dome but not the same large one.. which is very Byzantine in appearance.

The Central Dome is in this image above... the other you showed does look more like what we see in Greek Chapels.

Whats interesting in the shot is i wonder if Daniels is Forced to get to the Top of that Temple for Rescue by Tennessee, but then the Xeno manages to grab to the bottom..

Of he collects her from the ground and as they take off  the Xeno leaps from the Dome to the Drop Ship?

Yes BigDave, the smaller dome does look like a Greek chapel.

I thought it looks like an observatory the first time I looked at it.
