Alien:Dark Horizon

AsI'll do my best.Alright Here's a sample .Reynolds"Captain I've found something I think you should see."                                         Collins"What is it Karen."                   Reynolds"Well it looks like an egg of somekind.Its better if you just see it."The captain inspects the egg from a safe distance clearly wary of the lifeform inside.Collins"Mitchell have you seen anything like it?" Derek Mitchell,a former marine who has been to more world's than he cares to remember,has been silently observing from of to the side."No and I've seen enough lets leave it the f@&k alone!"                    Karen Reynolds"Mitchell,it's just an egg."                                                 Mitchell"It's a big f@&king egg,and i personally don't want to stick around and find whatever layed it!" Reynolds"Such a big baby,and i don't think there's much chance of that.I think they've been here a long time.Captain i would like to take one back and run some tests."Mitchell"Are you f@&king crazy!"Reynolds"No I'm not this is a pretty significant mind.Captain?"  Captain Collins"Granted.I'll inform Sonya to prep it for decontamination."                               Mitchell"Captain you can't be serious.You really want bring this back?"                                                    Collins"I am serious.Sonya do you copy?"                                                   Sonya,an android"I hear you Captain."                                               Collins"Stand by with the decontam unit,we've found something."

Asd"The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear.And the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown."- H.P Lovecraft                                                                           In my first part i detailed a scene regarding a small group dicovering a lone egg.What i didn't elaborate on is how they found it in the first place.Let first start by saying that this planet has a very harsh climate.Due to it's rotation the planet's average day/night cycle can last days.The nights are particularly hostile with temperatures reaching forty below zero.The planet itself is a barren wasteland populated by endless gray sanded deserts.I should also note that this group if settlers are not the first to have been on the planet,They're actually a relief crew.The previous crew's job was to simply set up shop begin,consruct facilities for the relief crew to begin testing the planet to see if it's suitable to be terraformed.Upon arrival the team traverse's the terrain in what i like to call "The Big Rig".It's basically a giant mobile drilling platform.Various  members of the team,which is comprised of ten members,are out scouting when they discover a giant fissure with minor life signs reading from inside.That's were we find our three,Captain Collins,Derek Mitchell,and Karen Reynolds.They've been lowered into the fissure using a lift from the big rig's crane.Upon reaching the bottom they find a small system of interconnected tunnels that appear to be unnatural in origin,as if they've tunneled by something long ago.It is after going through these tunnels,some of which are so small they can only be crawled through,that they stumble across a small  chamber,seemingly empty except for this lone egg.How did it get there?How long has it been there?Why is there only one?

I like where this is going and the idea is Logical, a set-up crew followed by relief crew, and I like the idea of 'The Big Rig', it 'fits' the ALIENverse!!

Part 2                                                                                                                     The team has safely moved the egg to the big rig in the decontam unit.The egg seemingly inert after untold generations of slumber.In a small lab aboard the big rig the egg is being examined by Sonya,the projects synthetic.The egg itself being kept in a sterilization chambers.Along with Sonya is the Chief science officer,Michael Willits,and Dr.Karen Reynolds .Captain James Collins observes from the relative safety of a moniter room.He hits the intercom.                       Collins"Willits have you ever seen anything like it?"                                  Willits"I don't think anyone's seen anything like it.Not in over 300 surveyed worlds.I honestly don't know what to make of it."                 Reynolds"Captain.Id like permission to open it up."                 Collins"Are all the quarantine procedures set up?"                           Reynolds"Yes Captain."                     Collins"Then go ahead."                     Near by with the captain are Derek Mitchell and Nora Chambers,project engineering.       "I'll bet it'll  just be a big f@&king omelette."                                             Chambers"I'll take that bet.Your on Mitchell."                                          Willits begins to make an incision at the top of the egg.           Reynolds"Careful Willits."                 Willits"I am.Hand me the forceps Sonya."Sonya hands him the forceps and he begins to pry it open.                                                   Chambers"Alright here's moment of truth.Get ready to pay up Mitchell."                                               Collins"Quiet you two!Willits whats inside?"                                                 Willits"A fleshy substance of some kind.It appears to be covering something."                                          Mitchell"Like i said a f@&king omelette.Some discovery."               Chambers"No Mitchell,there's clearly something in there.You wouldn't be trying to weasel your way out now would ya?"                    Mitchell"No especially since i just basically won."                                    Collins"You two shut the f@&k up or leave.Willits whats in there?"        Willits"There seems to some kind of life form.."                                Collins"Dr. Reynolds stand by.Be ready to purge the specimen if necessary."                                           Reynolds"With all due respect captain,Im afraid i can't do that.I mean this is unprecedented.I think the company might want see this"  Willits"Captain im inclined to agree with her.If the specimen is alive,there's limitless potential for what we can learn from it."                It is in this moment the creature within the egg begins to stir.Willits and Reynolds step back.Sonya remains where she is.                         Collins"Willits what's going on?"   Willits"Well captain our guest seems to be alive after all."                 Mitchell"No f@&king way!"              Chambers"Captain i don't like this."                                                      Mitchell"What's not to like.You just won the bet"                                 Chambers"F@&k the bet!Captain i don't think we're ready for this."     Collins"Agreed.Willits at the first signs of hostility i want it destroyed do you hear me?"             The thing in the egg stirs once again.Willits steps in for a closer inspection.                                            Reynolds"Careful Willits."                 The fleshy substance that concealed the creature begins to peel back.Willits inches closer.        Willits"Captain this is really quite extraordinary."                                     The egg peels back one final time.Something in the egg springs out.Reynolds screams.Sonya stands quiet,emotionless.Willits never knew what hit him.He falls to the ground unconscious,with an alien lifeform attached to his face.

                   It had been about an hour since the creature in the egg attached itself to Wilits's face.There had been an executive decision to freeze him.Dr. Reynolds had been quarantined in case of possible alien contamination.Sonya,being an android,was allowed to leave.While Captain Collins and the rest of the crew try figure out what to do with Wilits who has been returned to their main base of operations,Sonya along with the assistance of Nora Chambers,returns to the fissure where they found the egg

We find Sonya back in the chamber where they found the egg.This time she has gone in alone.Nora Chambers monitors her helmet cam.                                                                                                 Chambers"What exactly are we doing back here Sonya?"                                                                                   Sonya"I must concur with Dr. Reynolds,a live specimen would be extremely valuable."                                                                                           Chambers"There is a live specimen.It's on Wilits's face.Plus i was here on the monitor just like last time and i don't recall seeing any more eggs,if that's what you want to call it."                                                                                                     Sonya"The company refers to it as an ovamorph,and yes there's more down here."                                                                                                         Chambers"How do you even know that?I thought this was an unprecedented discovery?"                                                                               Sonya"There words,not mine."                                                                         Chambers"Sonya,is there an agenda i should be aware of?"                                                                         Sonya"If there is one,it's none of your concern."                                                                                                     Chambers"Frankly Sonya if there is one,it damn well better be my concern.I don't think i can allow you to bring another egg back."                                                                       "Nora Chambers,with all due respect,you are an engineer.My orders don't come from you.They come from the company."                  Sonya then clicks her com of,and shuts down her helmet camera.                                                                       Chambers"That synthetic bitch."

Meanwhile Sonya discovers a separate much larger chamber than the one before.Inside this chamber are thousands of eggs.Sonya ,along with the decontam unit,approaches an egg.The egg remains inert,seemingly aware,or perhaps aware of the artificial person approaching.She takes a tool,a cutting laser,and surgically cuts the tendrils that fasten it to the ground.She takes the egg with her and begins her return to the big rig.                                                                                                                         End first half of part 3.12

Part 3 second half                                                                                               Chambers"This is Big Rig to Horizon Home,Captain are you there?"                                                   Collins"I hear you Big Rig,what's the problem?"                                       Chambers"How well do you know Sonya?"                                                 Collins"Other than the fact that she's our company issued synthetic,I don't know anything about her.Why do ask?"                     Chambers"Well Captain,she's gone off the reservation."                 Collins"What do mean?"                     Chambers"I mean she has broken of all contact Captain,and that's not all.I think the company may have sent her with us for a reason."                                                 Collins"Explain please."                     Chambers"Well Captain before i lost her,she said something about the company wanting the eggs."     Collins"The only egg we found is the one we brought back."                 Chambers"I don't know about that captain.She said there's more down there.She also implied the company knows about them."         Collins"I couldn't see how.I've been with the company for 15 years and have never heard of or have seen anything like this."           Chambers"Great to know the company may be playing straight with us.What's Willits condition?"   Collins"Unchanged.For know we're keeping him on ice.Reynolds is still in quarintine.With her locked down,and Sonya going off the reservation as you put it,I'm afraid there's no choice but to keep him that way."                                              Chambers"Any clue what this thing is doing to him?"                       Collins"No.But what ever it's doing it can't be good.Keep me posted on Sonya.Horizon base out."           Chambers"Big Rig out."                     Chambers slumps back into her chair,clearly stressed.                       Chambers"Any word from Sonya yet Mitchell?"                                       Mitchell"Not a damn one."                 Chambers"Alright.Sh!t.Try raising her again."                                           Sonya"There's no need."                   Chambers turns around,quite surprised to see the synthetic.         Chambers"Jesus Christ Sonya.Where the f@&k did you go?"                                                        Sonya"That's an illogical question.You know where i was."    Chambers"You know what i mean.Did you find your "specimen"?"                                        Sonya"The answer would be no."    Chambers"Really?I don't suppose you would mind telling me what's going on?"                                            Sonya"The answer would be no."   Chambers"Yeah you said that.Why not?"                                                      Sonya"I thought i made it clear my orders don't come from you."           Chambers"And i thought robots were supposed to follow orders regardless of who's giving them."    Sonya almost looks as if she takes offense to the word robot.       Chambers"Now you listen to me very carefully bitch.I don't know what you're up too,but i'm on to you."                                                      Sonya"I hate to disappoint you but there's nothing for me to hide.Being a "robot" I'm incapable of lying."                                                Chambers"And incapable of following orders as well."                  The two women sit there silently for a moment,as if they're sizing each other up.Sonya finally breaks the silence."If you don't mind miss Chambers,I do believe i might be required elsewhere.Perhaps we should return to base." With that Sonya takes her leave.Nora Chambers hails Mitchell."Hey Mitchell,how the hell did Sonya get back onboard?"                                   Mitchell"I didn't even know she was back onboard."                            Chambers"Does the check in show anything?"                                  Mitchell"No nothing.There must be a glitch.I'll have checked back at base."                                                Chambers"So then she could have brought something on board with out our knowing."                                Mitchell"Yeah it's possible.What are you getting at?"                             Chambers"I let you if i'm wrong ."       Mitchell"I still don't get it."              Chambers"Forget it Mitchell.Just keep your eyes on Sonya.I don't trust her."                                                                                                                12

Part 4                                                                                                                                                               Upon taking her leave from Nora Chambers,Sonya returned to her cabin on the big rig.Of course she couldn't blame Chambers for her suspicions,but she was here on company orders and they didn't include her.Of course she sabotaged the big rigs airlock,after what happened to Willits they would never allow her to bring another egg back on board.The egg,kept safely in the decontam unit,she hid away in her quarters.For now there it would remain.In the mean time her assistance back At Horizon base was required.Before the return to base,she relayed a message to the company through a secure channel.                                                                                                               -Acquired ovamorph,awaiting further instructions.                                                                                           -Message received:Keep subject hidden until further notice.                                                                               -Science officer Michael Willits infected by subject known as Facehugger.Awaiting further instructions.                                                                                                         -Science officer status?                                                                                     -In cryo sleep,awaiting surgical removal of Facehugger subject.Awaiting further instructions.                                                                                                         -Dr. Reynolds?                                                                                                     -Quarantined.Instructions?                                                                               -Sabotage cryo.Allow xenomorph subject to birth.                                                                                                   -And the crew?                                                                                                   -Observe and collect data on the xenomorph.Crew is considered secondary and expendable.                                                                             -Instructions received.End message.                                                                                                             While Sonya didn't necessarily like her companions,she wasn't certain about how she felt about her instructions.It wasn't part of her programing to allow her harm or allow harm to come to them,but orders were orders.She knew now why some of her parameters had been reprogrammed.She was about to shut off her computer when she noticed she had one more order.                                                                                                           -Secondary orders.Previous Horizon crew informs us of a potential new item.Subject is described as a cylinder shaped urn.The contents inside are described as a thick black oily substance.Possible links to the xenomorph.Aquire if possible.Where abouts believed to be within same network of caves where the ovamorph was discovered.End message.                                                                                                                                                 Very little about Dark Horizons previous crew had been revealed to her.She was aware of what they had been looking for and that there had been a few casualties,thus the relief crew.But this was new to her.She hadn't been made previously aware of these urns.This changed things significantly.                                                                                                                                                                 Part 4 first half end                                                         12

Sounds like Sonya would fit right in with David 8 when she stood by and watched a facehugger make a friend.

@Farlander:There is a bit of a story behind some of the names.Nora Chambers is half name after a Stephen King short story "Nona" and the Resident Evil character Rebecca Chambers.Karen Reynolds is inspired by Sci fi Author Alistair Reynolds,author of Revelation Space.Derek Mitchell is half named after my Brother and Mitchell Bueller from Aliens Earth Hive.James Willits is Inspired by a character from Ghost in the Shell by the name of Dr.Willis.

I am really enjoying this story! LOVE the cave-network and hints about 'the previous crew'. :) I can SEE the planetscape in my mental-theatre, similar-yet-Distinct from LV-426 scenery.

I also realized something, that there is something worse than a facehugger...

One of my Chimerans trying to remove it , and taking the victim's face off accidentally.

I feel a thread as good as this deserves a bump ;)

Part r.Second half                                                                                         Horizon Base.                                                                                                       The "Big Rig" has since returned to Horizon Base,and with it unbeknownst to the rest of the crew,Sonya's deadly cargo.Inside Science Officer Michael Willits lay's in stasis awaiting surgical removal of the facehugger.I previously stated that the team consisted of ten members.We've already met Captain James Collins,Project engineer Nora Chambers,Dr.Karen Reynolds,Science Officer Michael Willits,Sonya,and Security officer Derek Mitchell.The remaining four are Chief of Security William Scott,Technicians Tristan Morova(female) and Abel Warren,and Pilot Ryan Perry.They,along with Captain Collins,await the arrival of the "Big Rig"back at Horizon Base.                                                                                                                                                 Collins-"Big Rig,what is your ETA?"                                                                 Chambers-"Nearly there Captain,about 5 more minutes."                                                                       The Big Rig pulls in slowly at Horizon base's dry dock,Ryan Perry at the controls,Sonya assisting.The Big Rig is eased in and docked,Captain Collins along with William Scott await at the dock.An interior bridge extends and links up with the Big Rig.Nora Chambers,Derek Chambers,Sonya and Ryan Perry depart from the Big Rig.                                                                                                                         Collins-"Perry,I didn't even realize you were out.Coulda sworn you were still sleeping."                                                                                             Ryan Perry is in his mid twenties,scrawny and tired looking,this is his first trip out.                                                                         Perry-"Yeah...."                                                                                                   William Scott laughs,and Mitchell slaps him on back.                                                                                             Mitchell-"Big boy slept most of time anyway hehe."                                                                                           Perry-"I don't know how you guys can work with these hours.God I feel dead."                                                                                                             Collins-"You'll get used to it eventually."                                                                                                           Mitchell-"Come with me baby,I'll make ya some coffee"                                                                                       Perry-"Fuck that,I'd rather have beer,then I'm going back to sleep."                                                                 Mitchell-"Whatever does it for ya."                                                                 Chambers and Sonya arrive with equipment in tow.Scott and Sonya exchange glances.Collins doesn't notice but Chambers picks up on it immediately but doesn't say a word.                                                                                                                     Collins-"Sonya,Chambers tells me you went offline despite orders.Care to explain this?"                                                                             Sonya-"As I already explained to Chambers,I'm not under her supervision.I do have my orders but am restricted from sharing them."                                                                                                                   Chambers-"She was trying to get another egg captain."                                                                                         Collins-"So you've said Chambers.Frankly Sonya I'm afraid I can't allow another one to come back until we know exactly what is going on with Willits.Though it appears you didn't find any more."                                                                                         Sonya-"No captain."                                                                                            Chambers looks at her suspiciously.                                                                                                       Chambers-"That reminds me Cap,Triss and Abel need to check the Big Rigs security measures.Sonya here just magically reappeared and the records don't even show her boarding."                                                                                                             Collins-"They'll get on it when available.Right now Willits condition is more pressing."                                                                            Chambers-"Yes captain."                                                                                  They return inside Horizon base.Scott and Sonya split off,Chambers still observing them suspiciously.                                                                                                       Chambers-"I still don't trust her captain."                                                                                                               Collins-"Nora,let it go."                                                                                        Once out of site Scott and Sonya flee into a room and kiss passionately.Sonya smiles,real emotion or not we are uncertain.                                                                      Scott-"So how did you like my gift?"                                                     Sonya-"The breaks in the security were exceptional."                                                                                                Laughs*Scott-"See being chief of security has its advantages.So did you acquire another egg?I can't stress enough how much the company wants one of these."                                                                         Sonya-"Yes I did."                                                                                               Scott-"Might I ask where it is?"                                                                       Sonya-"It's safe."                                                                                                Scott-"Good enough for me.So....wanna resume where we left off ?"                                                 Sonya,rather uninterested in such human physical desires,obliges.After all he came in handy,perhaps there's still some use for him.                   PT.4 second half end.
