I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.  I watched Androids blow and finger each other's flutes.

Ridley Scott does not need to stop, but you do!

You need to stop posting links to ridiculous articles (full of grammar problems)...

Lol.  No I don't.  I didn't write it so it's not my fault.  And Movieweb is a popular well known website.  Just because you don't agree with what the writer said, tough.

lol at you, nobody claimed that you wrote it, popular website or not it does not matter, your action qualifies you, why is posting that article good for you, will you be richer? Wait one month, and post it after that if it is so important for you! And you call yourself an alien fan!

No problems with personal opinions but trying to manipulate others is a different thing. Respect the movie, the actors, the director and their work. Wait a month and share your hatred and negative opinion in the future.

You're hilarious.  Again, not my opinion. I merely SHARED a link.  And where did I say I don't respect anybody or anything, such as the actors or whatever?  That's quite the imagination ya got there.  OK see ya!

Man, you shared a link, yeah, but why did you share that link now? Why is it good for you? What is your aim with that? Is it something positive? Wait a month and share then! Is it so difficult to understand?

Yeah it is hard to understand and I don't understand you.  Have a great evening!

I kind of agree with Phallic Jaw to a degree, Alien Covenant has started to get a lot of Criticism, thats just different peoples opinion.

There are number of things Ridley Scott is getting the can for and we have to Question at his age, is he making some of the right choices.

I will however offer Ridley Scott some defense.. we do-not know the full process behind the movies changes, Ridley Scott was happy with Spaigts Alien Engineers, before FOX felt they could remove the Xenomorphs and Eggs and just hint that the Engineers Experiments on LV-223 are connected.

Ridley felt this was a good idea, and indeed maybe the Alien had been cooked to much....  so in part it appears FOX made  a suggestion and RS went along with it as he saw the logic in it.

With criticism for Prometheus and Anticipation for Alien 5, it appears more likely that FOX again wanted to bring the  Xenomorph back into it.

We need to remember Ridley Scott does not get the Final Say, FOX dictate a lot, including Budget and run-time...

If FOX Gave RS $50M more and 40 Min more Screen time, i am sure so much more could have been added to make the movie feel a bit better.

We just need to now hope Ridley Learns from any mistakes again, and if he has a Vision then FOX need to leave him to it and also Back him up with $$$$

Ridley has a vision, he mentioned Star Wars, but i think he feels they could do a lot with the Alien Universe... Sadly FOX are not backing the money that Disney does with Star Wars but we can understand that..  But i feel $100M for Alien Covenant knowing that Prometheus was a bit of a disappointment is just plain stupid by FOX

This Sadly is just a AVPR to a degree.. not so much as far as a failing Plot compared to AVP ... but how the first AVP did get some criticism... so then FOX decided to rush a sequel with a much smaller Budget.

Just shows FOX has no Confidence in its Sci-Fi.... if The Predator Fails a bit too and its Budget is also low...

Then its FOX and not RS who need to give up with Alien Type Sci Fi

Fassbender was pretty good but his stage voice was too deep.  He struggles for it in the film if you listen.   Not everyone is Sam Elliot.  He was natural in Prometheus - why change?  Mistake.

I will look at the article and then give my two cents..

"A big problem that people had with Prometheus was the fact that the Alien from the Alien films was barely even in it. So...It seems like Fox laid down the law with this new film"

Valid point from the Article... they seem to be hinting that FOX has played some influence in the change from a movie where Shaw and David go... to bypassing it and bringing back a Xeno Popcorn Flick

"As a result, Ridley Scott seems almost bored. As good as Alien: Covenant is, Scott seems to be going through the motions. As if he is delivering the film he thinks fans want, rather than the film he wants to make. This is never a good situation. He can talk all he wants about having more Alien films to make, the reality is that he wants to make different sci-fi films"

I dont think he was bored he seems very enthusiastic about this movie... but i agree that it seems he has cracked into giving FOX what they want which is what they think the Fans was.. which in part the Anticipation for Alien 5 compared to a bit of a lack of interest into Prometheus 2... is what lead to the changes.

People forget though that FOX have creative Control.... Ridley does into have to go through the Motions and agree to what FOX want and just try and put as much of his input into it.

If FOX wanted Alien Covenant, and lets say if they suggested David creates the Xenomorph... and Ridley is like i want to make my Prometheus 2 and not have David create a Xenomorph but something a bit similar and so we can see the Black Goo can create similar things.. but keep the Alien in Alien a Mystery.

If FOX say... nope Engineers are a mistake, following Shaws answers too... we want to give the fans Aliens and Eggs.. If Ridley Scott stands his ground... its more likely a compromise would be made, but still it would be more of what FOX want.. if RS does not agree.. they could just get someone else to do the job.

"So, it is with all the respect that I can muster that I ask Ridley Scott to walk away. Find your bless elsewhere"

I can see what they mean, as The Martian was good... the Problem is Prometheus was a Poisoned Chalice throwing the Engineers/Space Jockey Human Creators Curve-ball a Bold idea.... but then not having the Aliens in it, which fans expected did lead to a polarizing but interesting movie.

Alien Covenant has gone the route of a bit of Forced Alien movie, a lot is to do with FOX Marketing where they basically given the movie away...

Who is going to change the movie for the next one?  do they think if RS walks away, we will get a better vision?

Nope... we will just get what ever FOX vision is, RS holds a lot of influence and while he does not get 100% the Final Say, i think any other Director would not be able to add nothing because FOX will just go with what they want.

Unless FOX can get a Director who is all the rage, like a James Cameron or JJ Abraham's.... but to be honest.. i dont think there vision would make the Alien Franchise back to what made Alien good... we would just get a Prometheus meets Alien Resurrection.

You may or may not have seen that for the past few days I have been fairly negative about Covenant and the future direction of things. That being said, I am open to the idea that AC may not be fully appreciated until the series is finished. A calculated mind could definitely drag out the big answers until the end and then hit everyone with something they'll love. Which could potentially make AC timeless. Not just your general audiences, but for all fans. I don't really know whether this is the plan or not but I see the potential for it.

I summary, we should hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Your concerns are completely valid. I've been feeling this myself since Friday.

I won't fool myself into believing everything will definitely turn out ok, but again, I can see how this film may have the potential to be an excellent stepping stone to something greater (though as a stand alone it truly would be questionable).

You may be right about Ridley needing to stop. But we are not at 100% certainty that he is going in the wrong direction.

If Alien had been drawn out into several parts with years separating the release of each, I'm sure people would fine plenty to piss on. That really goes for any movie in the franchise. When we see the final whole, we will know for certain if Ridley is a true fucker. For now, we must accept that our disappointments are limited to singular installments. The whole may still work. But again I am prepared for total failure. And I will still bitch about what I didn't like in Covenant. But I won't assume this is an indicator of what's to come. None of us should. Even though it's hard

I am not so sure Phallic Jaw intended to say he should Stop, but just to pass on a Article that claimed he should Stop... wither Phallic Jaw agrees with this or not i guess is there opinion.

I think the movie was a disapointment to a degree... but then i understand in part why things happened.

$100M Budget, a pushing forwards of release from October to May these really effect the Budget and how they can overhaul the Practical effects like they did in Prometheus (CGI Gloss) and limited Budget and time for Post Production/Shooting means less time to do good CGI

They also had to try and engage fans with the Characters more, and thus the Slow Build up...  but this takes up a lot of the movie, which when FOX would set a running time, means after this Slow Build and the New Monsters..

They then had limited time to cover why that robot David was there, who was Dr Shaw, what was this Place and what happened... It seemed these was shown in a way that was more a showing those who have not seen Prometheus that this movie is connected and maybe they then need to go and see Prometheus... rather than trying to cover Prometheus for those who have seen that movie.

Then they had TWO Xenomorph Scenes/Acts to be played out... again with limited time, they had to Speed up the Gestation Rate etc.... unless they was willing to have just one... i have a idea how this could have been done effectively

And so Sadly they needed more Budget and Production time = Better Monster Effects.

And a extra 10-15 mins cover Prometheus/David themes, and 20-25 min on the Xenomorphs.. well scenes to bridge what the crew will do while Oram's Chest Buster Gestates longer etc.

But when we see what the movie already had that was cut... which seems like 2 scenes, and then other scenes was shorter... someone who saw the movie in March told me that some scenes was longer... Lopes was Brutal, and that Upworth went to get her knife and then she got her head chewed off....  basically if they are correct there was extended and more Gruesome Death Scenes..

That had to be cut to get the movie down to 2 hour mark.. if these was left in i think we would be looking at 2 hour 20 min, and then if they added more to Prometheus parts and Xeno parts then we could have needed a good 2hrs 45min to 3 hours..

Sadly this was not possible and its why some things had to be done how they was done..

i remember when reading and participating in these forums was enjoyable but people are getting bullied/harassed for simply posting something without any harm intended. It certainly ruins my experience.

@Sparkling in guessing you wernt around just after Prometheus came out  :D . People were getting banned left right and centre! I on the other hand think forums are for heated debate.  As long as it's not death threats or anything stupid like that! Take it all with a pinch of salt!

@phillac jaw your absolutely correct and even though I hate Prometheus and can't yet being myself to watch covenant I don't think Ridley should stop he's still better than many directors out there. If forums were about everyone agreeing and holding hands dancing in circles it would be stupid! But he has made some blunders recently it seems. Weather it's meddling behind the scenes is hard to tell.  I get the feeling there is a lot of that these days... it's all about the dollars and very few films are feeling like is about the creativity.

"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

my first reaction to Alien Covenant was rather negative and I voiced that.  I've seen it a second time and I like it better now.

Seeing another negative article makes me sad.  Someone telling someone else what to do...chill out article writer from behind your desk, it's just art, he never meant to hurt anyone.  And we chose to watch the movie, nobody forced us.  So it feels all a little easy to me, burning down this director and his movie, safely from behind your desk and internet connection.

as for me...I am looking forward to look into the upcoming artbook and novelisation, checking if that perhaps can spark my intrest.  I'm glad to have seen the movie, despite some flaws and I think I'll watch it again in the future
