That could be amazing. A development from clean, pirstine scifi (Prometheus) back to gritty horror scifi (Awakening). That's actually an interesting thought. Ridley and the studio developed Covenant to satisfy the fans that wanted more horror and monsters, but Ridely still got his big, religious and philisophical AI destroying the future of humanity undertones, themes, etc. in there. So they were seeking balance (which is a problem with the movie in my opinion). 

So it's a real question as to whether Ridley will follow that same type of plan, go back to more Promethean stuff, or go even more towards the tone and style of Alien. I think that this planned sequel will end up being another attempt at juggling all the tones and styles. I think it will be better, since they should know how to better achieve that after Covenant. Additionally, the horror will include the Proto/Xenomorphs and what not, but it may come out as more of a thriller with David still being the main antagonist.
