Did Peter Weyland supersede Tyrell in making A.I?

In Prometheus, Peter Weyland's hologram said that "David will never die".

Did Peter Weyland perfect the mortality of his A.I before Tyrell could? 

or

Do you think Tyrell's last creation was like David? outgrowing and breaking new ground?  Thus beying the first to perfect A.I into being "more human than human"?

Replicants in Bladerunner only lasted 4 years.....we will see what the 2049 sequel has instore for us..
