Damon Lindelof on ‘Alien: Covenant’ and ‘Prometheus’ Sequel Ideas

“I think that one of the conversations that we had at the end of Prometheus is, Shaw and David have basically locked in on the coordinates of the planet where the Engineers came from. What does that place look like? Ridley called it ‘Paradise’. What happens when they land on that planet? It doesn’t feel like they’ve gotten there yet in Covenant, Covenant felt like it maybe was a detour prior to them arriving at the place of origin so I don’t want to spoil any place that he might still be wanting to go, but the conversations that he and I had about where the story goes next were largely about the place where the Engineers were from and less the events of Covenant.”

I kneew it that Engineers are not the same in Prometheus as they are in Covenant =)

Quite relieving! However, there's no telling what the drunken old man will do next ...

I will foam up if the next film is about the Engineers, though.

There may still be hope. But I won't hold my breath

RS said the next movie is pretty much written if not complete. It is starting to sound like a mess in the making already.

RS said the David killed the Engineers. While totally silly if such a civilization actually existed, anything is possible in the current Alien "Twilight Zone."

Hell, the series may lead us to believe we created ourselves...

suwhited Why not? We created ourselves and are a collective conscience experiencing itself subjectively lol.

@dk. Yeah.

That's some serious mental masturbation right there while we are experiencing ourselves.

Ridley and FOX Studios is going to have half of the posters on this forum hooked on anti-depressants if they continue on this dumpster fire drive....

It seems Ridley just went with his own personal ideas and ideas pressured by FOX, and this world we see in Covenant was the "paradise".

David refers to (in the Novelisation) the Engineers he dropped the Pathogen on as the "original Engineers".

It seems Ridley just kind of half assed the whole paradise world where the original Engineers hail from and went in favour of more ALIEN beings running amok to please the masses.

I think any plans he had with Lindelof were replaced with what FOX pressured Ridley into. Lindelof clearly states these conversations were "had at the end of Pronetheus". Which we all know is actually quite some time past now.

@La Quang Tien. I smell rotten ass...or maybe it's your SPAM.

Either way, it's offensive. Please take your smelly crap somewhere else...

RS confirmed that this are the Engineers, even if this seems weird considering the notable differences in appearance.

I mean it was only 5 years since the last film so i expected way more consistency.

Can't be that expensive to give 30-40 RL actors black contant lenses so they at leats look somehow similar.

But anyways, no matter if these beings on planet 4 are engineers or not i dont think this is their homeworld.

This looks more like a small colony, by the fact that there are no other surface structures or orbital structures.

Yeah Dr.Shaw and David found the planet where the Engineers came from but this dont mean this is their actual mainworld, even more when you consider this is a space faring species which has knowledge over hundreds of other worlds.

David calls the inhabitants of the world the "original Engineers" in the Novelisation, whatever that is meant to imply?.

If it is their place of origin I think they branched out and moved onto other worlds quite quickly but kept this world as some sort of peaceful paradise like world where certain Engineers can dwell and worship the Elders of their race.

I also wonder if this was the place where Engineers were plucked from to seed worlds like we see in Prometheus. They view this as a great honour and worship the Elders, hence the heads etc.

Ridley just ballsed up their make up and CGI but I'm close to sure these are supposed to be viewed by us as the same type of Engineers as the Engineer with the robe on at the start of Prometheus.

Just throwing this out there as I have to admit that what's going on with the ALIEN franchise hurts.

Please bear with me as my brain rebels.

Humans evolve on Kobol, the gods and men lived together. Man on kobol stole fire from the gods, that fire was the knowledge of life, how to create life, they created their own life (cylons). That creation and the destruction of their paradise was the end of kobol.

So the surviving Humans head to the next place they could, a small star cluster with many habitable worlds and founded the 12 colonies, while the surviving Cylons go off to find Earth.

Then, well... and at some point, the people on Earth, the cylons on Earth, repeated the pattern and destroyed themseleves as well. This feeds into the overall “all this has happened before and will happen again” mythology of the show.

Then, yeah, the 12 Colonies Humans develop Cylons, and we all know how THAT goes.

Humans and cylons run away across the stars...the gods are seriouslt absent since Kobol, possibly scared I think.
Find 'New' Earth, settle down, interbreed amongst themselves and the indigenous Humans of New Earth.

150 Millenia later...

Peter Weyland creates David...

SO..JUST saying, there's an Interesting linkage here that while it cannot be explored As-Per due to licensing and such, there's thw Core Idea that could be explored in relation to the 'gods' as well, which would act as a nice doorway into opening the knowledge-windows about the 'gods' (Engineers) and that maybe Humanity is far older than it thinks...

IN SPACE THERE IS NO WARNING

I think it is pretty obvious that this isn't their homeworld. David probably went there to test out the black goo and try to create the "perfect organism" before going to the engineers homeworld and unleashing the xenomorphs on them.

Thats an interesting thought on where David goes next. According to Ridley he hates humans and Engineers both, having no respect for either. If he plans to wipe out Engineer worlds with Xenos you can be sure he would be planning to cleanse Earth of humans also, leaving him as the one true immortal God with his Xeno creations below him.

Same here. Planet 4 looks more like a small colony.

For either recreation or worshipping.

Other then that i guess the local inhabitant just chilled around most of the time and enjoyed a simpler life without much high tech.

They even plant grain and probably make bread/beer/etc of this stuff, like in their ancient times and also create music and other artistic assets.
