Finally watched Alien Covenant (review)

Daniels was alright but her transition from a broken widow to a warrior like Ripley went too fast. I still think that she had an interesting development as a character but the pace was a bit rushed. She was alright but she could have been much better developed. Ripley was better. Shaw was worse so she is between those two. Hopefully they will make her better as a character if they will make a sequel to this movie.
Tenesse (MacBride) was interesting but he could have been better developed as a character and his interchanges with Daniels was nice to see.
Shaw looked better as a corpse and was better that way compared to when she was alive. We didn’t need to endure her stupidity this way.
I really appreciated the difference between David and Walter. The flute scene lasted a bit too long but for some reason it worked as a way to explain their differences. Walter was a sympathetic android, David was a dick although his work-shop was interesting.
The captain (Oram) was alright. He felt a bit insecure as a person while still trying to keep this together. His character was alright even though he could have been smarter when facing David. Even though he was religious he didn’t make a huge deal of it.
The spores was an interesting thing but I am not sure why not more were infected if they were all in it without protection. OK so they were colonists but shouldn’t they have used some caution? The computer at the ship said it was safe but I don’t know. Still this was not at the “removing your helmets even though you are scientists and should know better”-level but anyways.
The Neomorph was cool, it was small, fast, and a deadly fucker. I was more impressed with it than the Xeno, probably because it was new. As far as the origin goes I am not sure if David created it or re-created it so it was cool. AC was kind of vague about the origin and someone else could have created it at another moment.
They guy puking blood was gross. I wasn’t terrified but it was more like “yew, that’s nasty”.
When Daniels hang outside the ship, that was a tense scene. I was like “ooh shit!”.
My friend told me that he would buy it when it will be released on DVD.
The ending wasn’t very scary or surprising but I can imagine how it was for Daniels so when I thought about it from that perspective then that was scary.
This wasn’t the worse movie among the alien connected movies but it was far from being the best. After viewing AC once my list goes like this:
- Alien 3 (1992)
- Alien (1979)
- Aliens (1986)
- Alien Covenant (2017)
- Prometheus (2012)
- Alien Resurrection (1997)
- AVP (2004)
AC gets a 3 out of 5, it was an improvement compared to Prometheus. I probably won’t bother to watch AVPR.
