MemberOvomorphJuly 25, 2017I am a HUGE fan of Ridley Scott!!!! As a matter of fact my Youngest son's name is 1st name Ridley, middle name Scott. As much as I like the prequels and Alien, with all the negativity that surrounds the prequels Fox may be looking at replacing Ridley with a new director. And that's even if they continue with the franchise. I have thought about this and 2 directors have come to mind. I like the story but maybe they need to beef up the horror and suspense. The 2 directors I came up with is James Wan and Fede Alvarez. Opinions?
Ati Whatever. What Ridley Scott's Alien 2 was going to be about is not relevant to the point I wanted to make. I just remembered it is even worse: the Alien was supposed to be from Mars.

If this terrible movie is going to happen anybody but Ridley should direct it, the dude has lost it. Hopefully nobody directs Awakening which means the movie won't happen and it will never exist.
Ati "The planetoid of the Alien explodes, sending Alien eggs to Earth where a whole flock of the monsters run rampant."
See what I mean? and you posted it yourself. It sounds like a 50's B movie idea to me. Anyway my point is James Cameron (not my favorite director ever) allowed this franchise to flourish.
joylitt - Totally relevant because your comments are full of misleading, false and manipulative pieces of information trying to ridicule Ridley Scott. Nothing has changed. That's all!
Thank god Ridley Scott focused on making Blade Runner, which for ever will be my favorite movie.
Jay Johns That is an awesome name for your kid! After Ridley, I can see James Wan.
joylitt You have a point. Cameron really helped create the franchise with his popular Aliens and created/cemented a lot of the mythos. Ridley and Cameron were actually working together at one point to create a prequel before AvP happened. Though, Alien is really Ridley's baby. It was his seminal work and without him we wouldn't have the same film from Dan O' Bannon and Ron Shussett. I appreciate you not being antagonistic, I'm not trying to pick a fight either. I really just want to enjoy this universe with like-minded individuals and those who love it as well.
"The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it hurts."
joylitt --- Man, you had claimed in your previous comment that that was his only idea. That's why I copied the line from my own topic to show that your statement is false, because he had several other ideas as well!
Lawrence of Arabia Thank you for being sensible, man. We are all on the same boat and I don't want o be at war with anybody :-)
'Starring: dk and the alien queen'
IRaptus - Is it going to be an adult movie? :D
Joylitt, I'm with your philosophy of the franchise's existance. Both parts equally almost being Ridley and Cameron. For ridley the negative is he just put it together well on film but creatively it was a perfect storm. Cameron had a foundation but the sheer brilliance of him and his wife(producer) WRITING and directing those amazing characters with a Vietnam War analogy is just balls out galactic badassery! JC's negative is well, I can't think of one. But I really appreciate the original poster showing his love for what Sir Riddles has accomplished but has made peace with the fact that Covenant bombed and the sequel could be on life support with Scott not even having a chance to make it right for the ones that feel let down. He's acknowledging that RS is NOT the be all end all & that there are two directors he feels could be quite capable. I feel the same way but I like 'Get out" director and "It Comes at Night" director.
Capt Torgo The fact is Ridley needs a good script to make a good movie. He does not have one single credit as a writer, and that is ok, not every director has to be a writer. The problem is, based on his resume and propensity to discuss the many fascinating aspects of the world building in his movies, some fans have started to make him into this visionary generator of groundbreaking ideas. The truth is he does need a good source of ideas, call it Philip K Dick, Dan O'Bannon, Joseph Conrad, etc. Good sci-fi is still published today; probably Ridley has no time to read much thesedays. But if there were any good writers around they could pitch an idea with him, and then he could do his magic again.
And before Ati reprimads me (again) I am going to rectify myself. Ridley Scott did write his first short titled "Boy and bycicle", and has " conceived by" writing credits for a couple of promotional shorts for Covenant.
James Franco? )))
Nah, Ridley Scott, even after all the whatever, he needs to tie it up to his own original film.
Quinten Tarantino,seriously.
Imagine his dialogue penchant for violence.
As Big of a Ridley fan as I am ,change it up.
Make Ridley Executive Producer.
Raven, Tarantino? I have loads of respect for the man, and I am sure he might find a very creative angle. The humor he bakes into his work though may turn it into another Resurrection. And he already killed Fassbender in the Basterds. But he's definitely a creative force any franchise might benefit from.
a good script is most def a good starting point but even bad scripts can be made into classics by the director. star beast was poor. all that's left of O'Bannon and shussetts' script is the synopsis. it was ripped to pieces and put back together again. the monster is Gigers. the feel for the movie is Ridleys. the script is Hill and Gilers. don't get me wrong, im grateful and appreciate the contribution they had, they came up with the idea for the egg, facehugger and the big chap and how to get it on the ship (yes key ingredients) but their script is BAD man. ur putting too much onto the writers here which is kinda what their paid to do so hard to defend them. but remember, RS had full access and control over script changes as told by both spaights and lindelof. they would write, leave the script for him to read, come back and ridley would have scored through what he didn't want, make side notes and requests for what HE wanted and they would go back and change. both Prometheus and AC scripts were approved by ridley himself. I am a huge RS fan, I love his work and his eye. alien and blade runner will forever stand the test of time and will go down as 2 of the all time great movies, not just in the sci fi genre. he has to finish what he started I believe but I do wonder what james wan or Guillermo del torro would do with such potential.
ali81 Meddling from the director and several re-writes generally happen because the original script was not that good. The best Ridley Scott movies only have 2 writers at most: Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, The Martian, etc. And O'Bannon was an avid sci-fi fan, which gives him an edge over the likes of John Logan and company.
my point is that ridley got the scripts he was happy with. he has to shoulder a larger portion of the bad critics due to to the fact he had such influence on the script and he put that script on film. I love RS and pretty much all his movies with the exception of AC. being a sci fi fan does certainly help as having a passion for the genre gives u a leg up on what a fan wants to see. but star beast was poor and that cant be denied regardless of how highly regarded O'Bannon is in the sci fi world for his contributions. imo RS is a good enough director to know that AC needed longer or split into 2 films. hes been in the game long enough and for years when asked about the mythology behind alien he has stated he had his vision for who the big guy in the pilots chair was and what the purpose of the eggs was. hes stated he only came back to address the questions none of the other directors addressed and yet hes still to address these very factors. his plan may have always to hold the engineers back for a later film but its such a cut throat industry that if the return isnt there then the budget for the next instalment gets reduced. to me hes running out of time to give us something that does the engineers/ xeno or the original movie justice. I really hope awakening shuts the doubters up, myself included. I really like Prometheus and was so caught up in the hype and anticipation for AC. maybe that's my own fault but I expected sooooooo much more from AC and imo, it sucks. im not alone in this feeling as shown buy the returns on the film. I don't know the ins and outs of the discussions between fox and ridley as to how in control he actually is in regards to the way these prequels will unfold but the majority of bad critics have to be aimed at the director regardless of the writer. they don't get a free pass but ridley knows the score
"Naa.Naaaa nigga naaaaaaa" :D
Remember when another directors took the place and we got Garbages like Aliens, Alien 3, Alien:Resurrection.
It will be best if its Ridley director and writer.I loved Covenant, Prometheus and Alien.
