MemberPraetorianDec-28-2017 6:54 AMHas Alien: Awakening been cancelled with Blomkamp's Alien 5 back on track?
'News sites have been reporting that Ridley Scott's next Alien film may be cancelled, and some have even claimed Blomkamp's "Alien 5" may even be back on track. But let's take a look at the facts before jumping to conclusions.'

Anyway take overs would put movies that are not yet in Pre-Production on Hold, baring to Plans the New Owners would maybe have for the Sequel. It appears the AC sequel had got quite far as far as Drafts, it appeared some Final Polishing had yet to begin, but RS had mentioned that Filming would begin about July 2018 which would mean Pre-Production would indeed had began to some degree this Fall (well October or so) i would think they had a rough idea where to go NEXT but the disappointing Box Office and Criticism for Alien Covenant would have made FOX/RS have to take a look at the Direction and consider things as they cant risk investing in another movie that does not do well.
We dont know how far the movie had come along prior to the Disney Take Over, but i would be sure the General Idea and Plans had been laid down, i would say a majority of the Plot/Story as of May-June 2017 would not be far from what the Final Plans may have been once they had began Pre-Production, i would assume the reception of Alien Covenant may have brought them back to the drawing board to consider what things should be changed and so who knows how far they was to a Final Draft.
With the Disney Take Over rumors, it is very likely FOX was aware of the potential take over, prior to those rumors coming out and it would be logical that FOX would not Proceed as far as Production on a Movie that would be scheduled for main Production and Shooting under New Ownership, there simply is no point spending $$$$$$ on Pre-Production not knowing if Disney will or will not proceed with the movie.
I would say the next movie has been Suspended at the time being, i think the ideas and drafts would be kept at hand to pass on to Disney when Disney start to discus the Franchises FOX owned and which ones that Disney would pursue.
Which is WHY Blomkamp has released more about his Alien 5, because he knows if he can gain some interest and create some Hype, then it could indeed lead Disney to consider actually pursuing Blomkamps idea instead.

Your words are gold. Undeniably, it is very difficult to disagree with the video.
Why would Scott speak about his plans regarding the Covenant sequel in October and December if the whole project had been cancelled in September? Nonsense! At least for me...

Totally true. So obvious!

MemberPraetorianDec-29-2017 4:27 PMGreat news! Thanks for the share Ati!
Surely they cant go back to the future with Bloomkamps Ripley/Hicks story... and leave an entire story arc unresolved. That would remove any integrity the franchise continuity has left.

MemberDeaconDec-30-2017 2:48 AMI think it depends on what Disney feel make $$$$$
I think there is scope for a Alien movie set in the timeline that does not have to affect Alien 3/4 who wants to see Traditional Xenomorphs and Queens over and over? Those who do, well again we can give them this in a Parallel movie.
Alien Resurrection seemed to confirm to us that the only place to obtain the Xenomorph was via Cloning Ripley, which adds to wards why the Company wanted Ripley in Alien 3 and her Sacrifice had put a end to the Xenomorph as far as what could be obtained... at least for hundreds of years.
The Prequels opened up the Door however... as from these we can obtain the Xenomorph or Similar from.
*LV-223
*Planet 4
*Origae-6 (most likely)
But then we dont know where else we may find them, prior to AC, we had to ask was the Derelict the ONLY ship with that Cargo? Alien Covenant has likely set up the FACT that the Cargo is a evolution of Davids creations in AC and so Nope... that Cargo is only on that Ship... HOWEVER we have yet to see how Davids Creations get to LV-426.... do we ASSUME only the ONE Ship was loaded/ended up with Davids Creations?
So its open that another Ship had the Same Cargo.... If not its open that Origae-6 has similar Cargo or prior Version of it, its certain that Planet 4 has the AC version of it and the Neomorphs.
So yes another ALIEN movie could be made that does not have to discredit the Original Franchise and stays in Canon and not contradicts the Prequels..
ONE PROBLEM... these can not have or be about Ripley, even tying in Ripley connection would just be too Star Wars, even more so if this relative is played by Miss Weaver.
There is and i have said this a few times ONLY ONE real way to bring back Ripley, and not effect the Canon of other movies and work around her AGE, this is a movie set after AR, on Earth, where Ripley 8 starts to Evolve where the Xeno DNA begins to overtake the Human (by Natural Selection) and so Ripley 8 can start to have changes that require different skin tone and mild make up that will COVER her Age, and be explained by the Evolution of her DNA.
Ripley 8 turning Grey like Holloway and then further evolving to gain a elongated head, until she becomes a Hybrid Human/Xenomorph is a way to offer something NEW, while casting Miss Weaver and bringing in the Xenomorph, with AI on Earth and introduce Engineers too.
But i worry and i dont think this would be ideal, we shall get a Ret-con of Alien 3 and 4 and so get a Alien 5 aka Alien 3 reboot and then see Disney churn out another and another until we get a 80 year old Ripley kicking ass using a Powerloader as a Mobility Device.

MemberFacehuggerDec-30-2017 5:34 AMI agree, although I'd be fine with a Ripley relative like Alien Isolation (which I cannot believe has not gotten a sequel)

MemberFacehuggerDec-30-2017 9:31 AMthe question arises in knowing what fans really want.
AC has not had great success because the beast is cooked! ok, if this is true then the RS project wins by intelligence, as opposed to Alien 5 which could do the same end as AC.
in my opinion I think there will certainly be repercussions on the sequel AWAKENING, but the project will be due to force majeure, you can not break a chain, without knowing what you are doing.

MemberChestbursterDec-30-2017 9:52 AMMaybe not only the beast is cooked but the also the Alien formula (too many already) and maybe people did not like David that much, killer AI which there were so many already. So maybe both movies could be commercial failures if they are given big budgets.
For people to like a story you need both a good hero (group of) and a villain. Because Scott shoot himself in the foot by killing everything off, execs would probably like to back now Ripley, but the audience? Sincerly I doubt that and because of these dilemmas a stop and a reboot after a decade or so could be also possible.
If Scott has ideas why does not leak them to compare with Alien 5? Maybe he does not have something convincing.
As is now, I don't care for any of them. They lost me with covenant.

That's totally true BigDave, I agree with you here.

MemberNeomorphJan-02-2018 1:20 AMA lot of times there is contradictory information about things like this so I am not sure where they stand at the moment. I am not interested in Alien 5 and I am pessimistic about the next prequel since they did not get Prometheus and AC right.
The dates of when things shall begin (shooting and what not) is not as important compared to getting a better movie. It should not be very difficult to get a movie that is better than Prometheus and AC since they still have not gotten the characters right. Being that AC turned out the way it did I guess that it is a good thing that they think things over. Unfortunately keeping in mind how the prequels have turned out this far, that does not make me very interested in another movie. Now, if Scott will make another movie about David then I will probably boycott it or at least see what people will say about it.

Then make better human characters, concentrate on them, and keep the robots in the background or else don't make the movie at all. I do not want another robot movie, or one that gives the androids an important role or at least try to balance it.
"I would say the next movie has been Suspended at the time being..." - Big Dave
Maybe that is for the better, I don't want another Prometheus or Alien Covenant. Just his ideas about expanding the role of David is one reason for me not want to watch it.
Alien 5 is a movie that I do not really care about. Blomkamp can post as many pictures that he wants or what ever, I want to see something new but they got to get the human characters right. Unfortunately it would be a risk and could make Alien Resurrection look good.
"AC has not had great success because the beast is cooked!" - VINETICUM
I can only speak for myself but my reason why I didn't like the movie that much was because it has too weak characters and because it focuses on androids. My problem is not that the beast is cooked, it depends on how you handle it. Partially it could be that Scott does not know how to continue on with it, although it might be more to it than that.
"For people to like a story you need both a good hero (group of) and a villain." - red0guy
That was one of the problems with the movie, the only human that they got somewhat right was Oram, the rest were like "meh" in how they were as characters, they had no distinct personality traits.
I can not say that I am very excited for the next movie either being that Scott seems mostly into AI. The current direction that Scott is taking this is boring. Unfortunately we might get a movie that makes AR look good or even AVP (LOL!). Unfortunately I can not say that I have a lot of hope for this.
