MemberPraetorianJan-24-2018 4:28 PMI have found some interesting comments made by concept artist Matt Hatton on his Instagram page last December:
Hatton: 'She (Rapace) had to approve the later drawings. As I say these are earlier/rejected roughs that never got that far. I guess she did need to see the final sculpture though. I think MF was more freaked out...'
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hatton: 'We were initially told that they should be 'nasty', and indeed it was an r-rated horror film!'
I think this drawing shared by Hatton is very similar to the artwork created by Khang Le for the movie:
---------------------------------------------------------
Hatton: '...an explanation of how it sees thermally a bit like a snake. Which I thought both explained the seeming lack of eyes and would be a nice twist on why it hates fire (not being burned so much as being blinded by the heat).'
---------------------------------------------------------
Hatton: 'Trying to get that Giger aesthetic in everywhere I could, even if it was subtle.'
---------------------------------------------------------
Hatton: 'More of David 'improving' what was started by the Engineers...'

MemberFacehuggerJan-24-2018 7:50 PMWell, it shows Noomi has good taste, read the script and has an eye for what would make sense. David supposededly 'cared' for her, which wouldn't have resulted in the mess we see in the other drawings. This rings clear in the fact he saves a picture of her, and in the end, did not disturb her face (which the face might equate to the 'soul' for the soul-less). Or...the eyes in particular.
Some of the other drawings seem very odd, as if the story or Giger wasn't paramount in the art (looks like Fly movie art). I don't see a biomechanical bend to these, but it's late LOL.

MemberDeaconJan-25-2018 8:29 AMI think its interesting to ask Rappace, i think as her Image was going to be used in the movie she has a bit of a right to give her TWO Cents to how they portray her likeness. I however dont see her as someone who is really against her being depicted in scenes of depravity and torture though, she certainly would not complain or cant complain if her Corpse showed Nudity etc as she is someone who is not afraid to do these kinds of scenes in movies.
I think she was disappointed with how Alien Covenant had been done, because i think she felt that there really was more to her story that could have been explored, rather than by-passed with only The Crossing giving her some Screen Time.

MemberFacehuggerJan-25-2018 9:38 AMIts a total shame what they did to Shaw's character. I think they wanted to keep consistency with the lack of character development in the prequel series by killing her off, off-screen.

MemberFacehuggerJan-25-2018 10:42 AMAll of the art fascinates me to this day. I do wish they kept more Shaw. I remember when we are all theorizing what Covenant would be many moons ago. Shaw played a really cool part. I even remember a theory that she was the one that crashed the Juggernaut during Davids bombing.

MemberFacehuggerJan-25-2018 10:53 AMI just really think they need a new director. Same as the director of Blade Runner 2049 improved upon the original, I think someone with an actual imagination like that could elevate the prequel series out of the amateur bin.

MemberPraetorianJan-25-2018 2:51 PMIf that is the last we have seen of Dr. Shaw then I do believe we were ripped off a bit. Is that really it?
40 seconds of Dr. Shaw making eyes at David in Prologue: The Crossing while charging up the spaghetti in his neck and then straight to her opened up, shown for seconds, in Alien: Covenant. I really hope that is not the last seen of Dr. Shaw but the outlook is very poor. David does write of mutagen reanimation in his notes so it might be wide open for business on Planet 4 for a Dr. Shaw xeno-zombie comeback.
The Hatton image (above) can give us a little hope when showing a xenomorph factory similar to the Khang Le image (below).
Two different concept artists appear to have the same instructions from production in regards to concepts for the Prometheus sequel...so this embryo set up might be something yet to see in a future film. I love Le's other variations for mass production below.

I think the same.

Khang Le's work showing the garden of 'mass production' resembles some scenes of the movie 'Forbidden World (1982) - one of the well-known Alien rip-offs.'

MemberDeaconJan-27-2018 1:42 PMIndeed those concepts are very interesting and from 2014, and seem to add up very close to the clues the Source had passed on in Feb 2015, that they obtained from November 2014 ;)

MemberNeomorphJan-29-2018 8:18 AMIt is nice (some sort of fair play) that she got to see them if that is what happened.
Shaw was more likable in the Crossing than she was in the whole Prometheus movie.
Critters5: They should have had some of that artwork in the movie. I doubt that the overall quality would have improved drastically but a bit at least. Yeah I also agree that they should get a new director, someone that cares about the humans and not only about androids. Another David movie will be boring if that means that 60% or more of the time it will be about David. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of hope in Scott, as long as he is the director there is a chance that we will get one David movie after another unless someone really makes him shift the focus of the prequels.
