Alien finally ready to move past Alien Resurrection?

Alien Resurrection is nobody's favorite Alien movie, but it holds a special place in my heart. This was my first Alien theatrical experience. I was 7 and already a fan of the series. Aliens was something I always rented if I wasn't picking Star Wars, it was the action and the creatures. I grew up with the old Kenner figures. I wouldn't know how much people disliked Resurrection until I was probably 14 when AVP came out. I never cared, it's always been a blast to me. It's probably closer to how Dan O'bannon thought Alien would turn out under Roger Corman had he directed it. It's Alien at it's trashiest most B movie. For nearly 30 year now it's been almost completely ignored save for some books and comics. First there was Alien vs Predator vs Terminator which took place in a post Resurrection timeline and had Ripley 8 and Call. It's a ridiculous read. Then there was a sequel novel called Original Sin which also featured all surviving characters from the infamous movie. I still haven't read this to be honest. More recently we had novels like Sea of Sorrows taking place approximately 100 years after Resurrection and makes direct nods to the United Systems Military and the USM Auriga. There's some other books and comics as well. It remains a largely unexplored and ignored era, one seemingly ready to be retconed at a moments notice...until now.

Now it seems there are about three stories that take place past Resurrection though to be fair only one is official. According to Predator Badlands director Dan Trachtenberg, Badlands takes place sometime after the events of Resurrection making it the first story to move past that movie in an almost official capacity. I say almost because it's still a Predator movie and can probably be easily ignored. Next we have comments from Sigourney Weaver on Walter Hill's treatment for a 5th movie that seem to indicate it'll be about Ripley 8.

Weaver says here

Actually, Walter Hill has written about 50 pages. Maybe, by now, he’s written more about where Ripley might be now. And although I’ve never particularly wanted to go back to the series, there’s something about her experience being sidelined now, probably by this society, by this company, by this world and being probably around 200 years old, but still Ripley and you know, presumably these problems still out there. So I’m going to see what happens with Walter’s script. It would not be like what we’ve seen tonight. It would not be running around through airshafts. It would be a very different kind of story.

The idea that Ripley is said to be around 200 years old seems indicate a possible post Resurrection story though to be fair Ripley would be closer to 300 you want to get technical.

Now we have rumors of a game in development from Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex Human Revolution studio and one of my all time favorite games) that features multiple playable characters including Ripley 8. You can read here if you missed it.https://www.avpgalaxy.net/2025/12/12/rumor-resurrecting-a-legacy-ripley-8-to-appear-in-a-new-survival-horror-alien-game/

I know most people would rather this era ignored but the same can be said of the prequel era which is being embraced by movies like Romulus and games like Fireteam Elite. Why not move forward? Sea of Sorrows and Predator Badlands have put Weyland Yutani back in power so it's not like Legion replacing Skynet or the First Order replacing The Galactic Empire...you know less cool wannabe baddies trying to replace the one you know and love. Ripley 8 was easily the strongest aspect of Resurrection right? She has memories of Ellen Ripley. She's Ripley no more no less. Since I unashamedly love Resurrection I'm all for it and know I'm the only one. Is there any real harm in moving forward?
