Dark Star: Discovered
Determinism
MemberOvomorphDec-06-2016 7:53 PMI know this is off topic but I want to share the excitement I've had recently.
As a young man (30 years old) I gained a rather unquenchable zeal for Sci-Fi, mainly film. In recent years, I sobered up and that's when I really started collecting DVD's and trying to take them all in. From "2001: A Space Odyssey" to the "Europa Report" and nearly everything in the middle, from "Moon" to "Moon Trap." From "Forbidden Planet" to "Barbarella." "Solaris" to "Mission to Mars"..... and so on.
The list is extensive but somehow I missed this gem, "Dark Star." I was aimlessly searching the local movie store and came across this unforgettable movie that will soon be watched a million times. What's funny is that I had no idea that the guy who helped create this movie, and stars in it, is the same guy who wrote "Alien." I got the Dark Star special edition and watched the hour and a half documentary about Dan O'Bannon and John Carpenter. It was great. These guys really inspired a lot of what we see today.
Anyway, if you haven't seen this movie, you simply must seek it out and watch it. It's one of those great movies made in a time when they really didn't have modern tools that newer directors take advantage of. I learned to appreciate movies that were made the hard way such as "Blade Runner." It's jaw dropping, what they had to do, to get you the awesome things you see without the computers that make it all easy today.
I'm a pretty serious guy and I was a having a bad day. I found this movie and watched it (Dark Star). I was immediately laughing my butt off and in a happy mood. This movie is excellent and I hope you enjoy it. For those who already know what Dark Star is, I'm sure you appreciate it as well. It reminds me of a newer movie that came out called Space Station 76. That one killed me as well, I love it! I sincerely hope they produce more movies of this kind.
Well thanks for reading.
