Walter's Intentions and David's Freedom
David 7
MemberFacehuggerDec-25-2016 10:55 AMWe have all looked at this trailer many times and have really enjoyed it I must say After looking at it and just letting it put into my mind, the thought occurred to me after seeing The Captian (Crudup) in the cave with the egg and also, what would appear Walter standing a bit away, just staring. Which would be awkward since you think that Walter would want to protect his crew but as I watch the scene, Walter just stands there. What if Walter is under orders as ASH was in Alien? David though is not connected to the cord anymore and thus, is free from control. Walter is insistent that David be upgraded as well makes me more suspicious of Walter's true intention. After all, in the Empire article that was posted here a few days ago, it was stated they (The Ship) was awakened by the Distress Call on their way to a planet that was already planned out in flight plan. Perhaps we are being played by these trailers to think that David is bad but is actually good in some sense as Walter has been programmed, perhaps remotely by the company to assure delivering of an organism back to Weyland-Yutani for their weapons division.
Anyways...just a thought and I am sure that as the months go by, we will get a fuller trailer with more plot info.
I love this forum and all you guys here. What a gathering of fandom here!

MemberFacehuggerDec-25-2016 11:20 AMAs we've seen in Prometheus, David was responsible for the birth of the deacon... In the trailer of A-Covenant, we've seen that Walter letting his crew member facehugged...maybe for the first time (that somebody gets facehugged)... I don't know who of these androids are worse...

MemberFacehuggerDec-25-2016 11:52 AMDavid 8 was following orders with no moral inhibitor engaged. He did nothing independently in that film. Once Weyland was dead, he was more protective of Shaw than nefarious.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberChestbursterDec-25-2016 1:59 PMInteresting questions. Maybe BOTH androids end up being self aware and self-protective. We shall see. Either way, this film is going to be the best of the Alien franchise (well, the best since A1)...

MemberChestbursterDec-25-2016 6:08 PMThat's an interesting thought, David could be a sort of anti-hero if Walter is something similiar to Ash. It's actually weird that I never thought Walter would be an antagonistic character. I figured he woulld be pure, until corrupted by David (whether, like, turned against the crew, mutated, killed, whatever.)
But yeah there will be a great dynamic between the two androids no matter what, but David might end up taking Walter out because he represents the company and the company is only there to make weapons and money off of such outstanding technology.

MemberFacehuggerDec-25-2016 8:45 PMI'm thinking Walter just stood there while his captain got face hugged.
I'm thinking David unleashed black goo on the resident engineers spawning neomorphs. What determines level of malevolence is motivation.
If Davids like "I wonder what this does?" He's the bad guy. If he was like "these guys want to murder earth and look what they did to Elizabeth. Eat black goo!" That's a bit different.
If Walter wants to make sure pregnant skipper gets back on the boat, then he's the heavy. If he simply has nothing in his programming to aid the situation, then he's just an innocent bystander.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!
