Giger is gone... What now?

MemberChestbursterJan-07-2017 9:44 AMH. R. Giger died in 2014 and ever since I was wondering if there's any living artist who could succeed him, without being a "ripoff".
But there are a few catches:
1) A biomechanoid will always look "giger-ish" because he basically invented that style.
2) Giger's "mental state". As far as I'm aware he suffered from constant/frequent nightmares (don't know the correct term in english) and his art was a way to deal with them. As I see it, Giger saw, maybe even felt, what he created, beforehand.
3) Gigers success is also due to the time period. In the late 60ties, the 70ties and early 80ties people weren't as "spoiled" as we are today and therefor more easily offended/impressed.
The before mentioned reasons make it quite difficult to succeed him.
However, 2016 I stumbled across something called Scorn and was like "WOW!".

The artist behind this goes by the name Filip Acovic, apparently.
So far Scorn was the only thing that gave me a "vibe" since the old master passed.
So, what do you think, folks?
Eine Theorie die nicht auf Etwas solidem basiert ist für gewöhnlich nur Geschwätz.

MemberChestbursterJan-07-2017 10:00 AMPeople can imitate Giger to various degrees but since his unique art obviously came from his own mind it won't be exactly the same, maybe close though it depends on the extent of the artwork based on Giger's works.

MemberPraetorianJan-07-2017 1:23 PMGiger took opium because he was afraid of his visions.

MemberTrilobiteJan-10-2017 10:04 PMThe over all artistry of Scorn would be a great fit in the Alien universe.

MemberPraetorianJan-10-2017 10:18 PMgiger lives thru his work, always has. dead or alive, the dna is there...theres no reproducing something that lives forever.

MemberTrilobiteJan-10-2017 10:48 PMGiger was a one of a kind. His influence is vast. I think Paul Booth and the team from Scorn do a good job carrying on the tradition. Damn- I have a tat from an artist influenced by Booth/Giger. When I saw his drawings, I knew he was the guy. I noticed he had a tat from Paul Booth that I saw in a tat mag before. Like Giger, all work from Booth and the guy who did mine are one of a kind.

MemberOvomorphJan-12-2017 9:10 AMI've read Giger was dissapointed with the movie 'Species' because it tried to directly imitate things from 'Alien' and 'Aliens' instead of trying to be as impactful and innovatibe as them (specifically, things like the "bellybuster" and the use of flamethrowers when he envisioned the monstress as being inmune to fire).
Similarly, a succesor of H. R. Giger doesn't have to be similar, it doesn't even have to be biomechanical, it just has to make a big impact today the same way he did back in the day, and scare us on a, instinctive, visceral level we didn't even imagine before.
(Although there is something to be said about how a big chunk of Giger's work remains obscure in favor of the Alien and stuff similar to it, many of wich don't fit the popular idea of "biomechanical", meaning artists can still be inspired directly by Giger without it being too obvious).
