Black Goo (Eitr - The Life Substance)

MemberOvomorphFeb-24-2017 5:37 AMThe black goo has be shown in many science fiction tales, from Star Trek, The X-Files, Prometheus and many more.
But what is it?
Many believe is some catalyst created by the engineers to serve their purposes. Either to create, destroy or enhance life.
I don´t believe that to be so.
Since the engineers are clearly terraformers and travel through space colonizing and learning everything they need to know on the way, they might have found God.
Do you believe that God manifests himself in the way we pictured him to be or is it more a ground matter substance, a living entity?
Since my beliefs are scientific in nature, it would a delight to see the substance to become the very thing our characters were seeking for but once they had it, noticed it would of been better never to go looking.
Check out norse mythology about Eitr the life substance but many religions you can find a holy substance that brings power or destruction.

MemberFacehuggerFeb-24-2017 9:52 AMA pretty interesting point of view. A lot of religions teach about "life in the blood."
In fact the Holy Bible says in Leviticus 17:4, "For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, 'You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.'"
Followed up by Leviticus 17:11, '"For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement."
Maybe the black substance is the lifeblood of some unknown alien animal/race with ethereal properties. This would explain some of its tendencies to transform infected agents into Xenomorphic life forms.
I am going to dive more into this...

MemberFacehuggerFeb-24-2017 11:54 AMwhat "if" the black goo was the DNA of the Xeno and the Xno was the very first life form when the universe was created and because it was the first it was the most pure and the engineers found this DNA and wanted to unlock its secrets but instead unlocked hell.
maybe that's why the deacon was up on the wall as a reminder of some kind.

Its possible to be the DNA of an ancient creature...However, the first life form in the universe would be a huge stretch. At over 13 Billion years old, The universe has cranked out trillions of stars that have arisen and went nova. How many alien races have come and gone under theses auspices?
The engineers are an ancient race probably, but in the grand scheme of things they are probably a blink of an eye time-wise. It seems improbable that they could possibly encounter or even learn of a creature that evolved and died out realistically billions of years before them and probably billions of light years away from there center of gravity.

MemberXenomorphFeb-24-2017 12:26 PMsuwhited I agree. If there is a race that is billions of years old. They're not a terrestrial life form but space faring one that can physically live there. One that can handle the rigors and dangers of space. Kind of like Moia from Farscape. With as fascinating as the universe is I am sure there is a life form out there like that.

MemberNeomorphFeb-24-2017 10:56 PMI do think part of the theme to this series is that sometimes its best not to look behind the curtain as all ul find is disappointment. u may get ur answers but just not the ones u wanted or desired. much like weyland went seeking his answer to immortality but when he pulled back the curtain he met with death and nothingness. who knows what the black goos original purpose is. I think it is safe to assume the sacrsficial substance at the beginning of Prometheus is designed for creation though

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2017 1:25 AMwell some themes shouldnt be answered to keep thing open for mystique in a tale and to keep the fans chatting forever about it. I write my own stories for years now and know how most of the techniques work :-) You don´t want to show a god in a story cause it takes away any suspense and interest, so i doubt they will go deep into the magicians tricks. I still believe the black goo to be an entity found or created and then shipped out in the galaxy. If it is the very first being to be on this existence or the dna basics to every living being or just Pandoras Box with a weapon in form of this fluid, you never know. I loved the idea of having an organic substance as god itself. Always found the idea fasctinating that God is more of a weapon or force of nature you can exploit and use. So much you can use there :-) something like the seed of life.
