MemberFacehuggerApr-28-2017 12:33 PMHoly crap! Anyone watched this? It is in English and you have to see what Ridley says (and how he says it....) about Blomkamps Aliens 2.5!!!!

MemberChestbursterApr-28-2017 1:12 PMWow to his comments about David. I feel that's a fair indication that this "David in love with Shaw" narrative isn't quite what we'll be getting here. His comments have me thinking that David's fate is going to more or less deepen our understanding of what went wrong with Ash.
Thanks for sharing this.

MemberOvomorphApr-28-2017 3:14 PMWhile it's understandable that Scott would get defensive about his creation of the Alien universe, I would argue that Cameron contributed almost as much. I always thought that Blomkamp's potential contribution would be more in line with the "Aliens" universe that Cameron helped create (Ripley/Newt storyline, action, Marines, etc). I wish they'd pursue these two different aspects of the story line - Scott handling the front end with Prometheus/Alien & Cameron handling an alternate post-Aliens timeline. I do wonder if there are still potential plans for a narrative after Aliens, with Blomkamp not involved (due to the lackluster performance of Chappie & Elysium).

MemberChestbursterApr-28-2017 3:16 PMI took the liberty to translate the german part above.
Alien Covenant: For Ridley Scott there are only his own Alien-Movies
For the release of Alien: Covenant we met Ridley Scott and talked bout if he even .... other Alien movies beside his own (the original german sentence is incomplete). He had clear words.

MemberChestbursterApr-28-2017 3:19 PMSo he basically shot down Blomkamp and his project to push his own trough.

MemberDeaconApr-28-2017 5:12 PMCant get the video to play :(
But i have seen some recent comments regarding his plans, and how Blomkamps idea was only just a 10 Page synopsis etc and never a fully done Draft.
Then when we look at Alien Day and how he had shown the Directors Cut, makes me think he is indeed going to introduce something similar to the Egg Morph concept down the line.
I dont think he would do anything to completely dis-credit the Alien Queen in Aliens though..
A worry is he does again seem to think The ALIEN, The AI and RIPLEY are what the Franchise is about.
I Guess 2 out of 3 ant so bad lol

MemberDeaconApr-28-2017 5:17 PMAs far as the future goes i do think he is considering a sequel to Alien or Aliens, that has Ripley in it, which i hope CGI is better by the time they get round to it ;)
If Ridley goes for a Alien Sequel that in effect removes Aliens on wards from Canon, i think that will upset a lot of Aliens fans, i also dont think removing Aliens would please Miss Weaver.
I do think Blomkamps Alien 5 however is something they could consider as a idea, for example offer a alternative sequel to Aliens and some of the ideas within in.
Due to Age of Actors, and when its likely anything like this would start work on, then it will be hard to have Ripley in this in anyway apart from as a older Person, with a few Flash Backs and use this as a Platform to Pass the Torch to a Newt in her 30's
Basically they could go with Blomkamps idea as a Platform, but then push the time its set in 5-10 years more in the future.

MemberOvomorphApr-28-2017 5:28 PMI agree with all that @bigdave said....For me personally, it would be so ideal if Cameron could take the reins of the franchise post-Aliens and Scott handle everything pre-Alien. I would love to see a James Cameron proper sequel to Aliens (no sequel to Alien: Resurrection please). Say goodbye to the Ripley character, maybe follow a storyline with Newt, and introduce something new. This is very unlikely to happen tho as Cameron is pretty much all booked up with Avatar for the next 7 years or so.
BigDave
MemberDeaconApr-28-2017 7:30 PMI think this is unlikely, as Cameron is busy with Avatar and other projects and Ridley Scott is getting Old and he would want FOX to cover his plans for the Prequels first...
This is why there is now that Rule Book for the Franchise, so that if at any point for what ever reasons Ridley cant complete future movies, the ground work as far as ideas that dont conflict with his intentions are laid out.
Once Ridley has completed his next 3-4 Alien movies i think he will retire and only be a advisor and any future Alien movies will have Prometheus, Alien, Alien Covenant and its sequels and the Rule Book to stick to as a Guide.

MemberTrilobiteApr-29-2017 2:53 AMHe was vague on canon too. I can only imagine if I asked him point blank if Alien Isolation is canon. He might say " I've never seen it nor played it and I don't give a shit because I am Sir Ridley Scott, Bitch!"

MemberChestbursterApr-29-2017 8:04 AMThanks you for posting. He CLEARLY says the "other" Alien movies are BS (including Aliens) by inference. They are NOT canon, and they are disregarded by him. Those stories, as I've contended, are utter fantasy...no better than fan fiction, factually.

MemberChestbursterApr-29-2017 8:06 AMAnd no, there will be no James Cameron ever again involved with this series, thankfully.

MemberChestbursterApr-29-2017 8:39 AMWhat is Scott saying around 1:19 into the vid? I'm having a hard time understanding it.

AdminEngineerApr-29-2017 9:27 AMScott's body language cracks me up in this video. He clearly doesn't want to be asked or compared to Blomkamp or his project because he is in a league of his own. The interviewer kind of came at Scott in an almost condescending / judgmental way about it, insinuating that Covenant is holding back a better project. He also wasn't well informed and Scott laughed, asking who said that. It's clear nobody really has any clue what Fox's plans are for Blomkamp's Alien 5. They may choose to do spin-offs, but the focus right now is definitely Covenant and where it can take the franchise. Blomkamp's would've been a one-off unless they explored Newt. But I think the majority consensus is David is a more interesting character to explore than another Ripley.

MemberOvomorphApr-29-2017 10:29 AMafter seeing that interview i get the impression Ridley Scott is flying on a high horse and being full over self confidence.
But after a high there always comes a low...
How he talks about the other movies and such. His movies should all be tribble A titles what they are not.
Hopefully covenant delivers well.

MemberChestbursterApr-29-2017 10:45 AMI can remember an interview when he was like "Alien 5 is coming, I'm producing it.". And now it's all "NOPE, I don't give a shit.". IMHO it's smells like he stalled Blomie til he had a "deal" with Fox since hes the better connected and more experienced in handling studios. Chappie likely delivered a useful tool in that endeavor.
Machiavelli would've been delighted by this little posse.

MemberPraetorianApr-29-2017 1:21 PMRoger55 - Thanks for this!
Not direct quote:
Question: What's your opinion about (Alien's) sequels, the comics, videogames, clone Ripleys in A4? Have you seen those? Do you consider them canon or bullsh*t?
Answer: Most, I haven't seen them... so I can't comment... (-) ...bullshit. (And he is smiling.)
Awesome! :D Aliens does not seem to be canon. This is new. :)
So only Prometheus, Alien, and Alien Covenant are canon - at the moment.

MemberTrilobiteApr-29-2017 1:29 PMI thought FOX was the deciding authority on canon. Then again, another member argued canon to be decided by the individual.
Tiwaz
MemberChestbursterApr-29-2017 1:45 PMFox owns the franchise, it's their decision what is canon. Likely based on monetary aspects. And they'll make movies and license merchandise (books etc.) accordingly. Like Disney did with Star Wars.
Scott should keep in mind that he isn't the only "good" director. Whether he created the universe or not doesn't matter in the end.
Of course every one can decide what is canon for him but that's a personal matter.
