MemberPraetorianApr-29-2017 7:42 PMIt is just a theory, but what do you think?
The Neo will be the revival of a natural ancient creature. I see it as an original starting point. That would explain why it behaves like a wild animal in the 10-minute screening footage and in the tv-spot 'Hide'.
(Can it explain why there is only one city on the planet? Is it forbidden to go outside because it is dangerous? The planet is forbidden but there is a garden where you can live, and is this the city?)
Proto will be a human or android product, I think.
Xeno won't be explained in Covenant in my opinion, its story will be revealed in the sequels. According to Ridley, the sequels are about evolution and losing control of the creature.
The Deacon belongs to the Engineers/or their creators. Probably it is something engineered, so it is close to the Xeno technically, but obviously they represent two different lines.
We are told that the sequels will introduce several new mutations, new morphs, so the family will get bigger and bigger.
To sum it up:
The Neo (the spore-like earhugger) is the father.
The Deacon is the child of the Neo, engineered by the Engineers/other higher species.
The Proto is the child of the Neo, engineered by David/Walter. The Xeno is a more perfect version of the Proto engineered by... we don't know.
And the future Alien movies will probably reveal more children of father Neo.

MemberNeomorphApr-29-2017 11:18 PMI believe what the accelerant does is to read the subject 's genetic memory. Once it identifies it, it produces a parasite that will grow rapidly, becoming the perfect predatory creature for that particular victim, one that for sure will take it down: its perfect match. I guess that is why it is called "accelerant", it accelerates evolution. Let's say a horse like creature from the past had a sabretooth as its worse enemy; in that case the accelerant will produce something similar to a sabretooth in order to kill that creature. The engineers might have had a gigantic database, a Gallactic "Bestiary" of sorts from where to choose desirable nasty traits for their mutations. Probably David is trying to create something more specialized in his workshop. But remember he is just re-combining pre existent genetic material, therefore it wouldn't be unlikely that his "creation" resembles some ancient creature, one so lethal that would even be an engineer's match. A killer of entire civilizations.

MemberFacehuggerApr-29-2017 11:28 PMHmm. Interesting. I myself wonder if the xenomorphs were another part of the Engineers' arsenal of deadly bioweaponry (Ridley does describe the Derelict on LV-426 as a warship), along with the pathogen seen in the pyramids and ships on LV-223. Perhaps the neomorphs are a byproduct of David trying to recreate the classic xenomorph. This would also explain the slight differences between David's xenomorph on Paradise and the classic Big Chap.

MemberPraetorianApr-30-2017 9:35 AMVery good points.
The Derelict on LV-426 is ancient, ok, and it is a warship, ok, however, in Alien Covenant we are 20 years before the events of Alien, we do not know who flew the ship there, we do not know who put the eggs there, etc. - so everything is open now I think.

MemberChestbursterApr-30-2017 10:04 AMsome good points there.
my guess is that the neo will be the original animal, before alteration, testing, engineering etc..
it will be the traits of this creature that will end up as the basis for getting to the xenomorph.
ati - i also agree that the myth behind the xeno wont be revealed in covenant. im looking at the story and the only potential way i can see it being told is through davids eyes and i dont expect that to happen. it will be a magical moment no doubt, i just doubt it will be seen in alien: covenant

MemberFacehuggerMay-03-2017 8:07 PMMaybe the engineers go from planet to planet collecting what they have seeded, bringing evolved life forms back to Paradise and then drop them into the pit we see opening up when David arrives to rain Hell on the humanoids. Maybe the life forms then make their way via tunnels out beyond the city walls to regroup/populate the planet. But David has mutated these lifeforms into the nightmare we will soon see …
