MemberFacehuggerMay-03-2017 8:48 PMHello there!
For those of you who are into studying the ALIEN films in-depth, there's a new book that I think might suit your fancy.
It's titled ALIEN and Philosophy: I Infest, Therefore I Am. The newest in Blackwell's "Philosophy and Pop Culture" series (other volumes include The Big Lebowski and Philosophy, Game of Thrones and Philosophy, and The Ultimate Star Wars and Philosophy), this latest volume is fresh off the press--I pre-ordered it on Amazon and it just arrived today.
From the synopsis on the backside cover,
"Alien and Philosophy presents 19 chapters that explore the underlying questions raised by the film series that continues to terrify and fascinate us. Written by acclaimed scholars of philosophy and pop culture, topics include H.R. Giger's aesthetics, the literary influence of H.P. Lovecraft, the ethics of warfare and bio-weaponry, corporate androids and personhood… and the economics of the future…. Alien and Philosophy offers enlightening philosophical insights gleaned from one the most successful horror/sci-fi franchises of contemporary times."
Some of the essays contained within include,
"'No Man Needs Nothing': The Possibility of Androids as Lockean Persons in Alien and Prometheus;"
"Disposable Assets: Weyland-Yutani's Special Brew of Business Ethics;"
and "Terror from the Stars: Alien as Lovecraftian Horror."
Been flipping through it and it looks to be a fantastic read! It's now available online (and I'm sure some bookstores will carry it as well--I purchased others in the series at my local Barnes and Noble) if you want a copy for yourselves.

I do hope the 'Is Ellen Ripley a feminist' part isnt done from the nowadays common, edgy perspective tho.
