Engineer lack of technology on Panet 4 Explained

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 2:53 PMThey are the religious engineer-worshiping creation of the engineers. Ridley does not need to come out and say it, but religion could stifle the surge of technology for a hundred thousand years. Even the engineers in Prometheus seem a little backwards though their technology is more advanced. I believe they have to worship someone else too. If the advancement of machines like computers are inevitable, there may an cybernetic/engineer god (could look nothing like an engineer) out there.

MemberFacehuggerMay-21-2017 3:23 PMThey're probably a bit like buddhist monks, they've supressed the development of technology in order to please their gods
They've also resisted violence and only worshipped those aforementioned gods, as opposed to humanity who basically did whatever the hell it wanted lol.

MemberPraetorianMay-21-2017 3:37 PMremember the door controls in PROMETHEUS? Looked only like carved characters in stone right?
Turned out to be so much more.
What else of their technology to our eyes looks 'primitive' but is in actual face quite advanced?

MemberFacehuggerMay-21-2017 3:59 PMIs every Engineer in the film, an Engineer? Or can one work in security or as a political leader?

MemberPraetorianMay-21-2017 4:01 PMBased on what we know about them, I think the term 'Servitors' is more appropriate, as it's really implied they serve some higher beings.

MemberDeaconMay-21-2017 6:35 PMI think the Engineers was interesting... seems Ridley and FOX felt fans and the Franchise needed the Xenomorphs instead and they needed to keep David in the Franchise however..
Those beings on Paradise/Planet 4 did seem a bit different and the way they reacted to the Ship and how they dont seem to have much Technology... does leave it open for Ridley to pass them off as a different race, or even if they are Engineers the clues seem to point to them being servants to another race.
There is hope the Space Jockey could be another Alien race, but it appears at the moment its going to be either a Synthetic or Human... But things could change due to reactions to AC.

MemberDeaconMay-21-2017 6:39 PMMy interpretation is as follows...
Those beings are either another creation related to the Engineers, or are supposed to be Engineers or could be a mix of Races.
Regardless, it appears to me that there are beings above these beings on Paradise and these beings on Paradise are kept within just one city where that are watched over by a Higher Race (or Engineers) these beings are maybe used in some kind of Ritual Way and their whole Culture is very much Ancient and Religious based.
I would assume the LV-223 Engineers are a faction who had interfered in these beings and so got expelled from Paradise, or they are those beings and some Rebelled and got expelled.
Then the Expelled Engineers started to do there own sub-creating.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 7:45 PMI cannot remember I'd David said he was going to go after earth humans, or everything that is humanoid from engineer worlds?
He said he learned of their ways... could I just know one thing about their ways! Something interesting! There is so much potential there we just need creative people to think it up

MemberFacehuggerMay-24-2017 10:14 AMI have some thoughts about these beings:
1)They are Engineers or some sub-race of them (like humans asians, africaans,Europeans, etc).
In this case this planet is just a small sacral or recreation outpost to live in harmony with the nature or worship a higher entity. I mean they are millions of years more advanced then humans why not create a planet/world in which they can chill out and call it a Paradise. Maybe even with the intention to invite other races like humans to appreciate the value of life in the universe.
2)They are not the Engineers. But what could they be then?
Similar nose and body skin color but different eyes,body-size, muscular definition and apparent lack of technology.
3) They are the Engineers but evolved over the millions of years to feature different body-structures like eyes,body-size,skin color. In addition to that they degenerated/devolved over time and lost a lot of their former technology.
In this case this planet may be their homeworld and the hovering scorpion docking structure is a remnant of their great space faring past.
I think R.Scott chose option 3 to make a perfect irony of the situation of reversed roles. Which means 2.000 years ago the Engineers had some remnant outpost which could eradicate humanity (while their homeworld was long time before degenerated). But with the timeline of A.C David was capable with the knowledge of that race to be the punisher instead.
I mean option 3 would be dissapointing since it leaves alot of open questions but would make sense somehow since Shaw was seeking for their homeworld.
I dont know, we will see.

MemberFacehuggerMay-24-2017 10:41 AMOne thing i did notice during David's flashback during the ship arrival scene, was that they were indeed cheering and waving at the juggernaut.
I could be wrong, but I'm sure I heard drumbeats/music in the background to, from the surface as opposed to soundtrack music.
So it's like they were welcoming the return of their gods, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't have any technology and were peaceful, thus their planet wasn't eradicated by the engineers.
But as blackwinter pointed out, the technology in Prometheus was noticeably absent, as it was integrated into the stonework of the structures.
So it's possible it's hidden and we still don't know how or why the juggernaut crashed, it could've been shot down by a planet based weapon.
I'm guessing because they kept hinting that the planet was "hidden", despite scans of the sector, that they had tech that was preventing other species from locating the planet, as it's probably one the engineers wanted to protect from outside influence (oops!) :P
Perhaps the neutrino burst also hit that planet, causing the plasma storms in the atmosphere and also making it visible to the covenants sensors.

MemberChestbursterMay-24-2017 11:10 AMmy thoughts at present are that the beings on paradise are similar to humans.
similar because they were created the same way as us. an engineer223 drinks the black goo and breaks down to seed life.
the beings on the planet simply worshipped the elders.
the elders created engineers 223 - these beings are slaves of their creators and link with civilisations, report to the elders maybe even eradicate planets with black stuff when things dont go the way the elders want and finally, when a planet is ready for seeding, every thousand years or whatever, the engineers 223 give the ultimate sacrifice to create life by seeding planets.
im sticking with this even though the word paradise - as it was used in prometheus may not fit with the planet.
are we certain in a:c the planet is called paradise?
i never seen or heard that. are we assuming it is, due to prometheus or do we know for sure?
maybe. david found a planet he thought was paradise but was another seeded planet like thousands of others. or is he going around destroying human / humanoid life by using engineers planet and galaxy maps.
is it paradise? or is it another planet we assumed was paradise like we assumed it was the engineers that were killed?
Take This.... This is the blood of our lord

MemberFacehuggerMay-24-2017 12:00 PMPlanet 4 is the same planet as shown in the beginning of 'Prometheus' and these humanoids are the result of the combination of the black goo, sacrificial Engineer's DNA and falling into the water.
Therefore, these humanoids are not Engineers, in my opinion.
If they turn out to be Engineers, then I am disappointed in the clear lack of continuity and that is a failure on Ridley Scott. But why show that same planet through the "fake" window or screen during the intro of 'A:C' with Weyland and David? Surely that must mean something specific?
Planet from beginning of 'Prometheus'...
... is the same planet during intro to 'Alien: Covenant'...
Are we supposed to assume the Engineer seeded Earth? I distinctly remember Ridley Scott saying that could have been any planet, not just Earth, so if he really believed that, I don't think it was Earth, but another planet.

MemberOvomorphMay-24-2017 12:16 PMAgreed with Membrane, that Plant 4 looks to be the same planet at the beginning of Prometheus.

MemberFacehuggerMay-24-2017 1:22 PMWe can agree (or assume) that this planet at least is not heir homeworld.
Not enough surface/orbital structures and too close to the human solar system on the grand galaxy wide scheme.
What the species is may still to be revealed. But we cant deny they look very primitive, even compared to humans.

MemberChestbursterMay-30-2017 9:54 PMI actually don't see them as lacking in technology. We are holding it to the standards of modern society which values being somewhat flashy. We also are very used to our idea of what buildings should be made of, but the engineers may have found sustainable benefits to using the materials and style they do. Even in Prometheus, the weapons facilities largely look like caves retrofitted for the engineer's purposes. They were probably smart enough to only expend resources where absolutely necessary
