How warfare in the Blade Runner universe could be used in Alien's

MemberNeomorphSep-30-2017 5:16 PMI just watched a clip from the upcoming movie "Blade Runner: 2049" that blew my mind. It features "Luv", a replicant who is the right hand of Jared Leto's villanous Niander Wallace. I the scene she is having her nails done while coordinating a missile drone attack through a virtual device. The effect is chilling. It also gives me hopes for the movie, because it shows the writers have read Philip K. Dick novels (I kinda remember reading something like this in "The Penultimate Truth"). I cannot help by imagine a war scenario involving xenomorphs and someone dispatching them in the same fashion. Even better if the target is David.

MemberTrilobiteSep-30-2017 5:30 PMIt is also chilling for another reason. Warfare in the form of airstrikes basically can happen this way- from remote places. Makes it seem more like a video game and can remove some humanity since the one calling the shots doesn't have to get down and dirty. In fact, he/she can sip coffee and/or get nails polished- nice and tidy for those folks.
Yes, this looks to be a pretty good movie indeed.
Thanks for sharing.

MemberNeomorphSep-30-2017 5:43 PMYes, exactly. "Eye in the sky" (not to confuse with the title of another PKD novel) with Helen Mirren is a good example of how this happens today. At the end of the Blade Runner clip you can see the satellite shimmering high up in the sky. It is a moment that brilliantly translates the sense of paranoia that pervades Philip K. Dick's works.

Electric Eye
In the sky
Feel my stare
Always there.

MemberNeomorphSep-30-2017 6:08 PMSame title: "Eye in the Sky". A top 5 song in 1982, actually same year Blade Runner was released.

MemberNeomorphSep-30-2017 6:17 PMThat's a good song. I never ventured much into Judas Priest even though I had my metal phase. And I remembered them for contributing to the "Heavy Metal" movie.

MemberTrilobiteSep-30-2017 6:20 PMAPP "I can read your mind". Interesting song and maybe a little creepier since it is a dark message packaged in a soothing sounding song.

MemberTrilobiteSep-30-2017 8:36 PMStar Trek TOS reminds me of an episode where war was constant enough that it was normal. With technology, combat became obsolete and was a war of attrition. It was about numbers. It would come down that a country had to cough up 1000 citizens and they were vaporized. Names came up and they reported to the chamber for the war effort. Another country had to do the same. Nice, clean, tidy, patriotic and never ending. Does BR go in this direction?

MemberNeomorphOct-01-2017 5:19 AMdk I don't think so. This scene is more like a clandestine operation where Luv is giving Agent K a "little help" because his investigation is of interest for her boss. There is apparently an impending war ready to burst out if certain information obtained by Agent K sees the light of day. But I don't think it would be type of war that you mention.
