Some serious reasons for RS Alien Covenant sequel supporters to freak out

MemberNeomorphJan-04-2018 7:03 PMVariety reports that Ridley Scott is in talks to direct a "Merlin" saga for Disney, which would be his next project. Note the use of the word "saga", which might imply more than one film. If this happens, chances for seeing another Alien movie directed by Ridley Scott become very slim.

MemberFacehuggerJan-04-2018 7:07 PMTime for an alternative approach. Covenant has already laid the groundwork for it.

MemberChestbursterJan-04-2018 10:50 PMReally? He wants now to direct something without an end, longer than Harry Potter? Exactly as soulless ?

MemberChestbursterJan-04-2018 11:41 PMAnd let me guess at least will star MF and something to direct for Luke (not the Skywalker one!).

MemberNeomorphJan-05-2018 12:20 AMred0guy lol I am sure about one thing though, it Ridley achieves the levels of box office success of the typical Disney blockbuster, he will probably forget about Alien.

MemberNeomorphJan-05-2018 1:19 AMIf the next movie was supposed to be about David then they might as well cancel it. Get better human characters and less AI or throw it in the trash can.

MemberDeaconJan-05-2018 4:25 AMThen again.... would Disney do this?
We know RS has said he makes movies for HIMSELF, his interview the other day he basically said he comes with a High Price, and had critizied Star Wars to a degree.... I would have thought Disney would want more of a YES man to work on any Merlin Movie.
And RS now interested in Merlin more than Alien? Well if RS has gave up with ALIEN i cant see much of a future for the Franchise apart from maybe Miss Weaver trying to get Blomkamps (Ripleys) Alien 5 Popcorn Fan Service flick done.
If this article is true its a VERY SAD day for the Franchise.... i expect a Re-Boot of the whole ALIEN saga in 10-20 years instead.

MemberDeaconJan-05-2018 4:27 AMOn the Plus side.......
RS does tout himself as being able to get Movies done Quick and Under Budget.... if RS works on a Merlin Movie and it does well and Disney are impressed and want to get a sequel done... RS could then be like... you know i could make TWO movies in the space of a year... Give me a chance to do a Alien Prequel.

MemberChestbursterJan-05-2018 4:30 AMYes,but it would take years, and Scott is not getting younger and Disney might have the bright idea that in the mean time to make a Cameron produced Alien, especially if Alita is a big success story.

MemberOvomorphJan-05-2018 8:01 AMSince Disney now owns alien maybe he's using the Merlin movies as a bargaining chip to get new Alien made?

MemberPraetorianJan-05-2018 8:02 AMIt is shocking! I am freaked out. I've been screaming for twenty minutes like Hugh Dancy...

MemberNeomorphJan-07-2018 3:41 AMThat kind of depends, if his plans are to make another David movie then I do not care if we never will see it or not then he can go on with the Merlin thing. I prefer no alien movie compared to one that is trash and is about David. Maybe they could give the last part to someone that is interested in the monster and that is good at human characters. Perhaps that movie would be better compared to if Scott would direct it.
In some way he has himself to blame for the direction he took with David. You probably can not blame the audience for not getting it in this case. An underwhelming movie is so no matter who directs it or writes it.
“Well if RS has gave up with ALIEN i cant see much of a future for the Franchise apart from maybe Miss Weaver trying to get Blomkamps (Ripleys) Alien 5 Popcorn Fan Service flick done."
Give it to someone that gives a crap about the humans and that are less interested in the David part. I am not sure if the final prequel movie needs Ridley, give it to someone that knows the genre and that demands good human characters before shooting the movie. For Ridley to be out of this, well I am almost willing to say good riddance man.
“… you know i could make TWO movies in the space of a year... Give me a chance to do a Alien Prequel.”
If so he should be forced to focus on the humans and make them likable and well-written. No more stories where the androids get 70% of the screen-time.

MemberDeaconJan-07-2018 3:50 AMI am not sure RS is one to be FORCED into much....
I think RS would be keen on Merlin because it could allow him to make a impact in the minds of Disney about what he can do, and how he can use Budget and Production/Shoot Time very well.
It appears even prior to AC, that David would have been a more central focus for any sequels he was doing anyway. In hindsight touching on a Alien Prequel was always going to be tricky, because you either had to tackle the Space Jockey as a Ancient Race/Event and then leave us to find out their Race has dealings in the FAR FAR reaches of Space away from the Explored Galaxy in Alien.
Or Eventually interact with them, which then we have to ask HOW would they see/view Mankind and would they then want to be interacting/destroying us within the Time-Line of Alien etc
And so looking at either of these, its then do they do it with not having many Human Characters? Nope cant see this working, hence the need to bring Humans into the Story.
