It would be interesting if Ridley Scott opts to make the "Gods" who created the Engineers and rule over this universe to be more "Predator" than our idealized vision of God as benevolent overseer. Humans could be entering into the cataclysmic cycle of a terrifying intergalactic arms race being fought between the "Engineers" and their oppressive, warlike creators.

"....fought between the "Engineers" and their oppressive, warlike creators..." What role(if any) would the human race..now represented by Shaw/David....in it's outcome? Maybe none because of their overall evolvement,, And the fact that we humans are at the lower end of the food chain,,well,,is hard to swallow...

I actually didnt like the film first go around. Seen it at midnight showing. Had so much built up in my head I think its my fault I didnt like it at first. Gave it another run and love love loved it! Went in again and watched it in an open mind and really enjoyed it. Noomi Rapace steals the show and I have fallen in love with her. She was actually the reason I wanted to re watch it. I knew I enjoyed her parts and wanted to see her again. Good thing I did, the film is flawless. Ridley Scott is amazing director, knows what works. I went out and picked up Blu Ray player just for this film. I knew I wanted to watch it in a perfect picture and get all the extras I could. Hope they have a bunch of making of, and interviews like Blade Runner Dangerous days.

Ive seen it 3 times. I enjoyed it. its nice to have some good sci-fi to watch. Instead of the garbage thats out there in recent years. I would have liked the movie to be a little longer. Im hoping we get a director's cut on dvd and blu-ray. But its not looking good for that.

".....I actually didnt like the film first go around....." THat is how I felt after the viewing the movie... There were 2o..or so people in the theater and when the movie was over,,,just silence....as I and others didn't know what to do..so we just left our seats.. In contrast to 'What's Live Got to Do With It'....when this movie ended,,the movie crowd stood up and applauded..a movie..in a theater! THe human in me wanted the answers,..ftom 'Prometheus.,,,,now..

Bringing the AVP franchise back into the Weyland Yutani universe will never happen under Ridly Scott's stewardship. The AVP series was the bas***d child of corporate greed - poorly written scripts aimed squarely at mass market, simplistic consumption. They were the pop culture metamorphosis of an epic franchise that challenged both the intellect and one's nerves. If they were executed with the same quality of thought as Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 maybe they could have been great - but lets face it - James Cameron, Ridley Scott and David Fincher are intellects of the highest order who apply themselves only where they can see it will yield an impact - and I'm sure studio execs would rather employ less expensive individuals to feed their money making franchises. Having said all that I enjoy McDonalds at times as much as a fine wine - so I am as much to blame for feeding the AVP beast, as my insatiable curiosity drove me to see some good old fashioned D-grade horror regardless of the quality. LOL!

Marketing...Also when visitunbg Casinos..the AVP.game is present,, with the XENO(in the few games I have played) clearly the favored 'alein'. So Fox knows where the money lies.. If it was the other way around..there would have been a Predator.reboot..

Hi Guys, I was so wanting to be thrown in to a chilling visual feast that had people screaming in terror and running out of the cinema as in the 1979 ALIEN. Well I dont think I felt scared at all :( then there were no Aliens as we are used to seeing them...pitty, the crew did not care at all about each other and infact killed each other... shocked, I thought we were the goodies?. SOOOOOOO many questions and not an answer in sight. Now I read that the film intended to link directly in to the story of Jesus Christ... :) yes that would have been thought provoking and ballsy but they seem to have had second thought and played it safe. I do love the visual feast that Prometheus gives us but I wanted more monsters that attacked humans and less humans killing or trying to kill themselves or each other. I hope the second film goes for the jugular and stops playing it safe so the kiddies can come along with mum and dad. didnt live up to the hype but skurts around the elements that made this series of film so loved by myself and millions of others. 7 from 10 from me. Ridley Scott I think you have missed the points that made you 1979 film a classic of all time.....

"... I hope the second film goes for the jugular ..." The next installment must contain some more action..and end with some interesting questions,,,to set up a thought provoking 3rd part..leading up to Alien... *Prometheus.. *Attack of the Human's revenge *SJ's Final Trip.. *Alien Yea I could live with that line up..

Avp and the alien universe are two different things.

Webby

MemberOvomorphJul-12-2012 4:35 AM
Wish I could say I liked it. I would put this movie in the same box as avp . Total nonsense.. What I would like to know is. Was the script changed to bring in more money from future movies? We all wanted a prequel. Fox could have used Ridley to do a prequel followed by a reeboot of the saga and used Ridley again. Then fox could have used Cameron to do a reboot aliens and then took the saga somewhere it should have gone. Don't like avp myself and think they spoiled the series. Althought they are just a spin off much like freddy vs Jason. I liked the engineers but just thought the movie felt odd. With alien I felt Rodley had captured a realistic feel for the universe it was set in. You really felt that you were watching a crew on a long haul coming across something terrible. With Prometheus it felt like you were watching a story written by some one. The movie was not terrible but it just made little sense. If the derelict craft on Lv 426 is already there and been there for some time why does it contain eggs and why is there black goo in Prometheus. The only answer I can think off is that the lv426 ship is natural xeno and the black goo is manufactured weaponised xeno. The biggest thing for me is who done the cave drawings and why? Why would we know where the hell that planet was. We have just got sat nab but prehistoric man could draw maps of the stars. Don't think so. And another thing why draw a map to somewhere that had weapons. It just don't add up. Why does it appear that weyland knows more than the crew. David also just seems to be five steps ahead of everyone else. I know he is some clever machine but he just scouts about opening doors watching aliens play the flute and chatting to them. The scariest thing about the movie is this android. Not the aliens. We could have another cross over aliens vs terminator . Lol

"... I would put this movie in the same box as avp ...." I just viewed ".. Aliens vs Predator - Requiem.." I watched about 1/2 the film and besides the low lighting..and poor 'alien' visual..I couldn't find much else to like about this movie...so I just stopped watching... If this AVP movie is a box then Prometheus is a Giant crate,,,,,They are not even in tyhe same entertainment Universe...

They r both garbage though regardless what entertainment universe they come from.

Indy John

MemberOvomorphJul-14-2012 9:10 AM
Maybe the 'garbage' can be used as fertilizer..for the next series of stories.. There is someone..somewhere associated with RS that is reading each of this site's posts..They are looking to see that nobody has uncovered their next storyline...or searching for a storyline that makes sense to the human race in 2014. An additional goal would be to plant possible storylines just to see what the Prometheus crowd thinks .. Sort of run it up the flag pole and see whoi salutes..

Loved the music Atmosphere brilliant Plotholes.......what plotholes ? No attempt at overdoing special effects because it served the story and not the other way around. I think its brilliant and will slowly became a classic as time goes by. I loved the pace of the movie. The holographic images of the engineers and starmaps is awesome. But the best part is when the the pilot chair appears from the ground and you say oh that is what it does. Brilliant keep em coming.

I just don't like the 'they begin in pods' idea or the 'creation of man'. I'm interested in where Sir Ridley Scott will present.

Was one of the most beautiful films I have ever watched, but some clumsy mistakes made from poor dialog really just made this movie more like 8/10, or even a 7.5/10. I really liked the story and the amazing cinematography, but some scenes should of been left on the cutting room floor ( the scene with Fifield ,Milburn, and the mutated worm, "You just wanna get laid" scene with the captain and Vickers) The birthing scene was great probably one of the best things about this movie I really would like to see more movies following this one even though there was some dumb parts, I really enjoyed Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphJul-30-2012 8:58 AM
I liked the 'wanna get laid' scene. Janek and Vickers both played it excellently, and showed wonderful facial expressions. In Janek's position, I might have tried to get lucky, just like he did!
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

Intriguing, beautiful, grim, depressing, bewildering, the parts that I judge are unconvincing and truly unauthentic, particularly, the Fifeld/Milburn/ hammerpede encounter is confounding. Please, eliminate such illogic demonstrations and strengthen the story towards it's ultimate goal of a solid visually told tale.

I went and saw it again yesterday. It's well known that I love the film. I'm going to be honest though and say that I question my love for the film all the time. I ask myself if my love of Scott's work and the Alien Franchise blinds me in some way. I ask myself that and the answer is always no. I go over and over the complaints about the film. I realize some have merit, some don't and some are just plain BS. What I know for a fact is that the film has given me far more entertainment than most films. Especially newer films. Each time I see the film I find myself discovering new things and thinking new thoughts. For example, yesterday during the scene in which a young Shaw talks with her father and he says that the dead man may go to heaven or paradise and that each person has a different view of what "paradise" is to them. Then I started thinking about Scott's thoughts on this. How before Prometheus came out it was first going to be called Paradise and that paradise would not be the nice, beautiful place most people picture it as. Specifically Scott said "Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous" All this got me asking myself things like "what if "god" and "heaven" are not what most think? Why do most think the things they do? I asked myself those questions and many others. Some people obviously have views and thoughts of an afterlife and heaven because it makes them feel better. Anyway, I can't go into everything but the point is the film makes me think and I love that about it. I also can't wait to see Ridley's version of Paradise.

Farscape was really 'nearly' quite a good sci-fi show, a little childish at times, but Rovhu was EXACTLY how 'this Alien fan' saw the original (ganesha) Space Jockey, elephantine (never forgets star coordinates) welded into place in his Juggernaut control seat, from birth(?). I luv Prometheus, with all its sense of mystery, wonder and awe. Its very much its own movie, and I respect Ridley for this, he sensibly chose not to make the same movie all over again, as much as I gather many mainstream wud hav wanted that. Ridley chose to open up this whole franchise. We all wanted to know whos is that humanpid figure sitting fossilized in that giant wired chair?? How did that ship get there? and what are all those eggs about?? These are all answers you just cant justifiably answer in 1 simple movie, at the sametime as give fans the regular dose of sex, action and scares. This is what annoys me with the divided feelings on Proemtheus, Im all for people having thier views, but there have been those who even consider themselves fans absolutly slating this movie, just because these answers were not given straight away, and this is not fair. We all know if a movie is successful there will always be a sequel, Hollywood works on the basis that if a movie makes a certain number at box office they will always want a sequel and it doesnt matter what fan demographic that particular movie appeals to (e.g. scary movie series). I seriously believe Ridley has made a film slightly ahead of its time, in the themes and Ideas it explores, and lets face it not alot of science fiction movies have even bothered to ever go down these routes. Look at the recent sci-fi movies of late, starting with the digustingly overatted Avatar, Battle LA, District 9, Skyline, War of the Worlds. These were all good movies but all mostly the same, maybe with the exception of D9 which was a really good movie and different. Prometheus is a movie born out of a very simple horror story/film, but Ridley (with the great Inspiration and help from artist H.R Giger), really added some genius elements that helped build it into much more than what that film was originally intended to be. I think mainstream will warm to Prometheus in time, and it will become a classic, I just only hope Ridley Scott is allowed to do the sequel and keep going in this awesome deeply intruiging direction. Last note: when the sequel does eventually role along, It would be so nice if when the engineers race name is finally revealed, they are known as "Necronoms" in honor to HR Giger. The great under-appreciated artist of his time who greatly influenced the Alien series, because if it wasnt for his artistic influence on that film, we would have no "Prometheus" today.

What confuses me is the fact that Weyland himself dies in October 2004 (Predaotr vs, Alien) yet looks to be over or near 100 yrs old in Prometheus which is set in 2094. How is it that in 2004 he was aged at in his mid to late 50's yet 90 yrs later is still alive? Also, he made an appearance as his so called self to show Ripeley a friendly face when he appeared at the end of Alien 3, just before she jumped? Which by the way happened sometime after 2122, which was when ALien 2 was to have been when Alien 2 was dated.

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 10:20 AM
You are a bit confused indeed. The Weyland appearing in AvP is Charles Bishop Weyland, in Prometheus we have Peter Weyland. They might be related, and they might not. There's no hint that they are or aren't in the same fictional universe. The one appearing in AvP is a homage, tribute, quotation, rip-off, whatever you want to call it, to Aliens.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

Just saw the film last night for the first time. I'm older, and was at the theater in the 70s to see the original "Alien." I was already a film student then and an avid movie goer, not easily frightened or disturbed by anything, but I went away from the theater and that night had the first nightmare I had ever had as an adult. I loved it! Later, when "Aliens" came out, I also really enjoyed the film, and admired Cameron for respecting the original movie and taking a different slant, turning into a terrific, Summer action film. I personally don't take any of the other Alien sequels seriously, and consider them not worthy of being part of the franchise. So when I heard about "Prometheus," I was very anxious to see it, but a sudden increase in my work schedule just kept me from finding time. Then I started reading the reviews...and was surprised to see all the lukewarm and downright negative comments. It actually decreased my desire to see the film, and I decided to wait until it hit DVD. I got the impression it was more like a 2001 film than what I had hoped for. Not that 2001 is bad, but it is definitely not my idea of a frightening or intense film other than the "HAL" sequence. So last night, when Prometheus hit iTunes, I bought it, and though I had to get up early today, I stayed up quite late watching the entire film. When it was over, all I could say to myself was..."What are these people who are making negative comments....I mean...where are these people coming from?" I think it could not BE more worthy of the ALIEN franchise. It was simply amazing. I felt like this film was really one of the most unnerving films I'd seen in years, with a wonderful sense of dread and tightening suspense, one scene after another. The score was very good, and I really enjoyed all the throwbacks to the original film.....I mean there were so many...from a ship about to....well..."self destruct" .....to a a pivotal "chest burster" variant scene, to a suspicious robot, to Jerry Goldsmith's original ALIEN theme being incorporated during one of the early sequences, to yet another female running in panic semi-dressed. All they left out was the cat. The locator bit, locking onto a "lifeform" while the two crew members stay stranded, so many things that harkened back to the original show. Even the distorted voices coming over the intercom system from those on the planet reporting back to the ship sounded familiar. Anyway, I loved it. I'm looking forward to watching again this weekend! Watched the movie via HDMI from a I Phone in 720p And i am no where near as disappointed with the movie having seen the deleted scenes i see that there was a good movie there and that should some of these scenes been kept as it was then the movie would had been better. I still think the story was big and needed more time, but when i consider the deleted scenes if they was added in then still the movie would not have told the tale or used Characters as good as could had been i,e more detail to Characters and more time to the Plot and Story on top of the deleted scenes. However this would have meant a 3 hour movie, and it was a movie that had slow build up pace until the Shaws Baby Birth and Fifield Attack scenes, and if we fleshed out the Characters and added the deleted scenes up to that point and even explained and detailed the scenes more too that point we would have effectively gone through 2 hours or more just to get the the point Shaw has her Baby removed. Which would had been a long dragged out 2 hours. So i understand why some Characters was not given more depth because well it would slow the pace of the movie down. I also got used to how some Characters well they behaved in a way that you would not see as professionals and best of their jobs, but this is a Sci Fi and well Aliens was the same and so are many other Sci Fi movies. Where the Characters are not what you call realistic as in how you would expect in a real life situation. Saying that in Alien the crew behaved just as you would expect from the roles of simply being truckers and miners etc. The movie has a lot of Potential, it has some flaws and some things could been done better but no movie is truly perfect. I think once we see other cuts of the movie done and the more we watch all the different cuts the more this movie will grow on people, just as Blade Runner did from its disappointing reception to how with ever cut the movie seemed to get better and better.

I thought Prometheus was very disappointing. This film was poorly written! What makes a film great is the plot, the scenario not the special effects .Unfortunately this one had more holes than a Swiss cheese!
