I agree strongly with the clone, each movie had its own strengths. No one is saying that 3 and Resurrection were of the same quality as the first two movies, but what did you expect? A carbon copy of The Nostromo or Hadleys Hope adventure? The series had to go somewhere? Of all the scripts available online I have never read anything that compares to the sequel movies, therefore I appreciate those movies for what they are..... quality science fiction. Frankly the amount of Alien snobbery out there is disappointing, "because its not Ridley Scotts Alien - it's garbage" I gorge huge amounts of science fiction as often as possible and the vast VAST majority of it is depressingly bad, if only there were more productions like Alien 3 and Resurrection I would be a happy man. Not everything can be, or should be, a masterpiece.

See this is one of my biggest problems "The series had to go somewhere?". Did it? Did it really? Because from where I'm sitting it looks like they made 3, Res, AVP and AVPR for the sake of it/cash. If you don't have a decent script or source material then don't make the darn films. I can't stand this, well what did you expect, a film as good as ALIEN? yes, yes I did. If Ridley and his team can take the time and effort to create a masterpiece, and Cameron can put the legwork in to a superb sci/fi action then I don't expect anything less from other directors. If you want to add something to the ALIEN universe, then do it right don't just make films because you fancy having a go.

For me, Resurrection paid enough homage to make it a good Alien sequel. It was whackier than any of the others (Cameron wouldn't of touched it with a ten foot pole) but it at least built something and carried on a tradition of altering the alien's life cycle. Though it shines a light on how horrible the Alien 3 script was. Now that I think about it, if Fincher went down the whacky route and went with the script about the company performing experiments on inmates, it would of at least built on the corporate greed theme that the other films shared. He could of said, "well, it's going to be a sad ending, and I can't really compete with Cameron's film, but I at least have this". Instead there's nothing, really (I know it's not all his fault). This is where I disagree with Enderwiggin, it WAS the Nostromo all over again. Just no heroines or lead-up to the story. An ending for ending's sake... Geez now I'm depressed.

"We're all here to discuss Prometheus, this isn't a battle between those who think it will be great and those who think it will fail." Well put at @Mentos....anyone else as tired as @Mentos and I are of the Ridley and Lindelof bashing before the movie is even out?........... @PerfectOrganism2......when you start a thread, understand the facts behind the idea...."Well we al know that Ridley has used a script written by a T.V scriptwriter, who has never made a film before, so lets take a look at what happened the last time a television writer was used to pen an Alien movie." Joss Whedon, before he penned 'Alien Ressurection', wrote 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' and 'Toy Story'. Damien Lindelof, before he re-wrote what became 'Prometheus', penned 'Cowboys And Aliens'. Second @PerfectOrganism2, what's up with all your pessimism about 'Prometheus'? I keep coming back to the forums looking for cool ideas and fun threads to geek out about and get me pumped for June and I keep finding you pouting about this or that.......slow your roll man, seriously :)....you're bumin' me out. Lastly....................@Mentos: "See this is one of my biggest problems "The series had to go somewhere?". Did it? Did it really? Because from where I'm sitting it looks like they made 3, Res, AVP and AVPR for the sake of it/cash. If you don't have a decent script or source material then don't make the darn films. That was perfectly put and I thank you ever so much for expressing my thoughts and feelings for me.

@ mentos, every film made cannot be a masterpiece, if that was the case there'd be no masterpieces. So I suggest you enjoy A3 and AR for what they are.... Good films. And by the way I never mentioned AVP.

All fairness like so many others even Joss Whedon has ups and downs. Normally I have to give it to Whedon if he is left alone by studio heads wanting this and that and changing things from his original ideas they are pretty good. Remember he did write Serenity and it was pretty good for a low budget film. With regards to Prometheus I'm pretty sure Ridley Scott is very active in each aspect of this film from the writing to wardrobe to the modeling and CGI just as he was with the original Alien movie and Blade Runner. So in my opinion this will be one of the best SciFi Movies to hit the big screen in 10 years. Something familiar yet new and exciting. Good thing is Scott changed up the name from Alien which was a good move as those sequence movies get old to most and are judged before they are even watched. As for Jon Spaihts I know little about him and what he can bring to Prometheus. But Damon Lindelof can bring a good deal to the script writing of Prometheus, though he was primary for TV scripts he has since broke very well into movie scripts with the Star Trek remake and with Cowboys and Aliens.

i haven't seen cowboys and aliens but from what i read it has very mixed reviews. The star trek reboot was ok enjoyable but very predictable but not bad there were a lot of belief suspension points in it like spoke turning up in the exact location that kirk found himself on the ice planet but you expect that in star trek i just hope this script for prometheus is as tight as a virgins ass .

If you go to iTunes and look up the new film, "The Grey" with Liam Neeson, the film score is composed by Marc Stratfield....great piece of score for that film and makes me think that Prometheus will be awesome...I think Marc will do a grand job on the film. Also, good work man...I like it!

Took my wife to see "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" last night. I usually appreciate Trent Reznor's musical sensibility, but in this case, instead of enhancing the on-screen action, his score was frequently overbearing and distracting. I thought the movie itself was on par with the original, which was a pleasant surprise.

Very nicely done. Extremely professional. Lots of interesting and varying soundscapes to explore. Do you have ant idea what system/instrument(s) the artist used to make it?

@ImMrSage The music you linked is very darkly atmospheric. It would proabably work, depending on exactly where and when it was used in a film.

Time *dilation* is not time *travel* thankfully. I would despise a time travel plot, but conversely a trim *Dilation* plot would be awesome! Here's my theory on this subject in a previous thread ("theory: interstellar travel and evolution"), although I'm pretty sure my speculation is very different detail to what we'll see in the film

OK leave the words "Time Travel" out of it please. I love my SciFi but the Time Travel crap has become just that crap. As for Light Speed Travel and it's effects on those traveling in it have been touched on in prior Alien movies, for a fact I know it was in Aliens the second film of the series. Pretty sure it will have a small mention in the film, but will play no major factor. By what I been reading of the upcoming movie the key is getting what every DNA they need to help save mankind back to earth in time.

i think it was Special Order 937 after seeing ALIEN well over 100+ times, i would say that from the jump off, Ash knew that they were all just basically lambs to the slaughter in regards to the entire Nostromo crew being sent to "investigate" the signal given that Ash wasn't human, the alien would most likely just leave him be Ash was aware the entire time, there are subtle clues throughout the film that suggest he knew about the special order, but being a cool, calm android, he was able to maintain that facade until his programming was switched, and he become murderous

My apologies Gen...i have been on and off here a lot and do not see all the threads. Of course, it hits me when I am watching the scene and in my head....I would have been, "Hey Ash, before you freak out on me and try killing me with a rolled up magazine....could you explain that too me real quick?"
Reply
Mr.JPrometheus Forum"There's a perfectly good explanation."
Yeah...when Ash was glancing and watching Kane at dinner was the biggest clue....and letting everything play out and I wonder if the company was monitoring him the whole time... Kind of giving of what may have been live feed to the company, they could see through his eyes and have video confirmation of all that was happening? I am sure the company received all the info they needed before he was offline.

serratedproboscisPrometheus Forum"There's a perfectly good explanation."
Even earlier than that: when the Dallas Lambert and Kane go out to the derelict, and the computer deciphers some of the acoustical beacon. Ripley tells Ash that it looks like a warning, not a call for help, then asks (like it's a dumb question) "shouldn't someone go after them?" He replies, "Why?" *stutters a sec* "I mean, by the time you got out there, wouldn't they know if it was a warning or not?" Ripley finds it odd, and the question goes unanswered. They do nothing.

Yeah...I almost forgot that scene... I would say, it was all set up from the beginning. So we know the company or the people remaining around who knew about the Prometheus journey found they had another opportunity to try and get what did not come back successfully first time around....

I also remember how he shouts: "Don't touch it! Don't touch it!" as the infant Alien bursts out of Kane's chest, as if to protect it. Then there is a kind of expression that Ash has on his face as the creature runs off, the one that is filled with fascination.

anyone notice the color of the acid, when ash goes to remove the facehugger from kane .........green,,,very similiar to the green thing pulled out of the vase in the prometheus trailer?hmmmm

CBT1979Prometheus Forum"There's a perfectly good explanation."
@engr Of course Ash might have implied to Parker Not to touch the freshborn chestburster because of the hazardous acid, it is true That he was rather not wanting the alien Beeing hurt or killed. When ripley asked Ash about what he Has found out about the alien, he obviously Only tells her basis stuff but he seems to know Much more about it.

FrantzPrometheus Forum"There's a perfectly good explanation."
Surely ash did know of the order but i think it was a standard hidden procedure ( to retrive exotic things even at the risk of compromising the crew ). What i dont buy is that the company did know much about the aliens ...to me they were blind like the crew ...they just wanted IT (whatever it was ) . And Ash of course did know nothing about the xenomorph ...thats why he study it so intensively ,and thats why he make so many errors that can possibly lead to the destruction of the alien too ( cutting the finger could lead to destroy the ship too , also hes totally unaware of the SJ , and hes totally surprised by kane's death )

maybe Prometheus will shed light on that very thing regarding how much the company new when it comes to alien.

I believe as well, it will open up the door even more for Alien. I have to believe from watching Alien, someone in the company knew of the ship and knew there was something of an organism there....how else would they know to gather a specimen? Okay, I am thinking too much, lol. Also, I would think only a hand full of people knew of the Prometheus mission as well as the Nostromo. A high dollar/exploration ship is know but the mission is well kept under wraps and classified. The Nostromo was just bad luck for them...stuck in the middle and well, no one would miss them.

you know, I always thought it was odd how quickly Ash responds to Mothers alert to Dallas when they are first eating. I think he did know and wanted the opportunity to get down to business. He exudes a prepared eagerness when he opens that hatch and breaks quarantine protocol.

When you program a computer, you are specific. The company, which is 30 years after the fact, lost their multi-billion research vessel and their high ranking company exec, you just don't let these things go. There is someone on the inside, or group or elite people, most likely former workers of the Prometheus Exploration pulling strings....
Reply
hicksandhudsonPrometheus Forum"There's a perfectly good explanation."
Yeah I think its pretty solid the company knew exactly what was going on from the jump. Ripley's crew was probably the first ship they could get out there after the events in Prometheus. On thing that does confuse me, is that the atmosphere of LV427 in Prometheus seems much different than that in Alien. I'm assuming that the time travel has some role in this. Prometheus crew travels back in time, the space jockey ship crashes, and the planet's atmosphere changes over hundreds of years.
