On both the "mask' with the trunk and the "head" being scanned in the trailer, you can see what looks very much like cranial sutures. ( small, slightly irregular cracks forming a diamond pattern ).....yet, the "mask" includes what looks very much like a trunk ( ie: a muscle-lined tube ) Perhaps that feature is supposed to be more like bone than a fleshy appendage, or what [i]looks[/i] like a skull really isn't, but at first glance, it's a very strange juxtaposition.

Zeta Reticuli is a system. not a planet. So nothing can take place "on" this. The planetoid that is fictionally used in the films is called "Acheron" or LV-426 Just some clarification.

I always thought the head in the lab was in fact the one being examined by Shaw in, or near, the ampule chamber along with the SJ suit laying behind her.

The biomechanical nature of the alien technology means that it is both a skull and a helmet at the same time. The difference is that a brain doesn't go inside it, instead another head of some sort goes inside it. You can read "find a clue to the origins of mankind on earth" as 'find a clue - to the origins of - mankind - on earth', or as 'find a clue - to the origins of - mankind on earth'. So there could be some deliberate ambiguity there: the clue itself is found on Earth? Or perhaps the clue is about mankind as far as Earth is concerned - which would entail that mankind exists in other parts of the galaxy (hence the tall blue baldy guy).

Ok 1st of all, Scott has stated over and over that most of this film will take place on a planet Called Zeta Reticuli, and while I agree completely that it is not a known planet, ZETA2RETICULI IS a planet, and I just assumed that this is what he meant. 2nd of all, I did not sleep to well last night so before I go back to bed I want to tell you what I learned while I got tossed and turned though 4 1/2 hours of shut eye... I decided that the AMPULE room HAS TO BE ON EARTH !!! Ridley Scott has made pretty much ONLY ONE and a HALF things clear as a bell this entire past year...the fact that somewhere in this film mankind finds clues to it's origins and existence...on Earth {we're not sure because of the vagueness of this statement whether he intends for the clues to be found on Earth as well} And, that he will 100% and defnitively explore the Ancient Astronaught Theory first made popular in the TV series "Ancient Aliens" Someone mentioned an Earth Based tribe from thousands of years ago who's writings are stenciled into the Big Giant head in the Ampule Room and on the SJ vessel as well. The Ampule room has to be the discovery, it's gotta be on earth, also the no space helmet thing in thier, Earth has a breathable atmosphere so helmets would not be needed, and the suggestions regarding the culture of the Ancient Aliens {The Space Jockeys they must be}, is starting to sound a lot to me like an Ancient MAYAN culture too... The expression "Calling Card" did not phase me, what did was hearing so many insist that the Space Jockeys left something ON Earth...so I thought Long and Hard about it and it makes perfect sense, STONE HENDGE and THE GREAT PYRAMID of GEEZA are the two biggest mysterious we know of On Earth...and I bet we see BOTH in this film..I bet one of them has a secret passage that leads to the Ampule Room...and it's probably the great pyramid of Geeza. Ridley is tying the Ancient Astronaught theory from Ancient Aliens into this whole film. This IS in fact going to be about the Origins of Mankind On Earth. The Ampules can contain ONLY thing now to me...the Weaponized...purest original form...OF THE XENOMORPH. THEY HAVE ALREADY CONVERTED THIS CREATURE INTO A BIO MECHANICAL WEAPON THEY USE FOR TERRAFROMING...IT IS THE XENOMORPH THAT IS BIOMECHANICAL...IT IS THE XENOMORPH IN IT'S MOST INFANTILE STATE THAT IS THE CATALYST FOR THIS ENTIRE FILM. Their Home world is Zeta2Reticlui OR they have been Harvested there by the Space Jockeys. Some crew for the Prometheus take/steal some of the Ampules from the chamber on Earth for study. They get caught and the Space Jockeys are not pleased ONE bit about it. They decide to whipe out the race of Humans and to Terraform their world when done. They pack up a ship with Ampules, they are going to drop a cargo of Xeno's on earth, But on the way something happens and they end up crashing not on Earth, not on Zeta2Retuli, but LV-426...that's the very end of the movie we are seeing in the clip. The Key is this...In an "Alien" extended scene we Heard the Alien Transmission which I have argued forever that we still do Not know 100% what it was...I think I do Now and why it was in a voice.... It is NOT an S.O.S and it is NOT a warning...it was a message in the language of the SJ's that was sent BACK TO THEM so they could find him and get that whole situation either fixed, or to decide if they need to terraform LV-426 now. Bottom line is it was in a space mans language, HIS not ours, so it had to be intended for his home world, and there is the fact that if the crew have that recording so DID MOTHER and The Company so it is HIGHLY LIKELY that the crashing Derelict we are seeing, is in fact a victim of an attack perpetrated by The Company to stop the Derelict and it's cargo from ever reaching Earth!!! The End !!! Works Perfectly for me !!! This is all about the Ancient Alien theory, and the reason it turns out they aren't helping us anymore, is What the company did to their cargo ship on it's course to earth, and the act of the Prometheus crew stealing some of the Ampules. Remember.... Prometheus was punished for Theft !!! I love it !!! The Ampule Room has to be on Earth at either Stonehenge or The Great Pyramid of Geeza IMO !!! This is why I am now of the belief, that the clues to Mankind's origin are in fact found on Earth!

My two cents on the ampule room is that it is in fact on the distant planet... They find something on Earth (probably one of Gigers murals) They venture to the planet and locate the temple I spotted (again, based on Gigers work) One RT and two ATV's head to the temple. Inside the temple they find a a well that leads them to a series of caves (gigeresque in shape) During this time something happens to Holloways helmet and he starts to suffocate, they rush him to the entrance to the Ampule room and he starts to breath. The caves lead them to the ampule room, where they come across the remains of a dead Space Jockey. They bag the SJ's HEAD as they also notice the big human head icon, surrounded by Ampules. They realise this is what they are here to find. David bags an Ampule. Beyond that I don't know until they return to their ship, whereupon a storm hits sending Shaw flying past the ships landing gear.

Maybe Ridley would have them (whomever it is in the foreground) wearing the suit in deep space as a way of pulling rank. dont forget, this isn't the Nostromo where they were all more or less the same, engineers, truckers, etc. I'm pretty sure that whoever is in charge of our first (probably) foray into deep space to uncover our origins and find extra terrestrial life, would be in full regalia to keep the grunts and lower workers in understanding of who is running this shinndig and whose money they using.

Yes, and thanks and i was just relaying what I believe was the way Ridley said it and Yes I am not familiar with the details as much as you guys "fo sho" but I do know it is a star system and there are some planets there so one of them should be the one Ridley must be referring to right?

I can only think of that guy as one of two things... That is the unsuited SJ....or it is the second android...maybe some kind of battle android. The type of model they send in to checkout dangerous territory...not suitable for humans. Or the Android itself has mutated...cause it got exposed to the goo? I suppose it could also be a mutated human?

That kind of throws me for a loop., I mean it looks too Human-ish not Alien enough. Think about what we have seen in the trailer so far, nothing really Alien looking. Sure we got some SJ suits, Meltyman/cocooned man, SJ head on scanner/med table. Yeah that dude...I don't know. I need to stare at the frame/ shot for awhile..

we know the sj skull looks non-human. it has cranial suture marks proving it's an sj skull. the cancer patient is another race or *cringe* a mutant.

@walterhiller, it may indeed by definition be a skull, but given the biomechanical nature of this alien world, it could still be a form of helmet, which is consistent with the suit theory. As for the "baldy", goo + contaminated guy + time = excessive growth and metamorphosis into a drone being for the Engineers.
