I needed something to read while on holiday, and I’m really enjoying it. I’m glad I didn’t waste my money on Dan Brown’s latest.

Keep in mind that Japan is a different region than the US for Dvds (1 opposed to 2, same as Europe), but the same for Blu-rays, they have no Japanese subtitles on the North-American release (but the Dvd released here in Romania on the 13th of September had them) and possibly must pay an import tax. So this solution seems a bit complicated.
We can not blame piracy because it is non-existent in Japan...

Prometheus was released in June worldwide, in August in Japan, while the dvd was released in October.
Alien:Covenant was released in May worldwide, in September in Japan, one month after the dvdrelease in August.
For the movie to make 7$M in these circumstances is not a flop I would say. I don't know how open is the Japanese market to overseas purchase, I mean if they can buy the dvd/bluray from Amazon or other sites upon its release.

I believe David's files were sent after he was on board the Covenant. If Weyland-Yutani had some knowledge about his experiments they would have sent a military expedition first, to annihilate David, instead of waiting until he had the upper hand.
Why would Weyland-Yutani risk a colonization expedition, the total loss of the ship, crew and cargo of 2000 colonists and embryos to negotiate with a malfunctioning, unreliable android?

Well it would've been an interesting twist and theme for the whole alien concept but i guess before doing it they should let people know about it so that they may get what the reactions will be.

Japan weekend #4 actuals:
The good news is that Alien: Covenant managed to stay in the top 10 for one more week. The bad news is the legs are quite poor and it will not hit the 1 Billion Yen mark--Meaning it will be very difficult to track from here on out. Thus this may be the final update for awhile.
Sitting at #10 in week four, the movie pulled only $236,000 for the weekend. Its overall total sits at $7M. The overall consensus from Japanese box office analysts has been "disappointing". Whereas it did poorly in the US, it has outright flopped in Japan with a current, estimated audience attendance of 570,000. For comparison, Prometheus ended with an audience attendance of 1.24 million.

Yes, and to me, the most reasonable interpretation for the mounted engineer in David's lab is that he found a relatively "good looking" corpse in the plaza (there apparently were about 2 million to choose from), not too deformed by the pathogenic cloud? Also, when the Covenant crew get to see them (and we in the audience), ten years have passed . . .
Well, I don't mind speculations, but sometimes I feel that they are a bit too fantastic. :) I think the best sci-fi movies are the ones which try to get an air of realism to them (which I think Scott tries to do).
cuponator3000Alien: Covenant ForumWhat afterlife ??Oct 11, 2017Reply
It may show up as a theme or, like, motif, but I don't think that it will make it's way to the forefront of things in the next film(s). Too much already going, I tihk they have to keep advacning what they have started, you know? So yeah. Would be interesting to see how Scott handles that though

Thank you I Moon Girl for your compliment on the image.
I adjusted the tone, contrast, and brightness to bring out the colors. The last image with the Prometheus, escape pod, Dr. Shaw, and the juggernaut is my favorite. I do love the escape pod zoom with the bright colors too. All very vivid.

chli said, "I agree. It seems unnecessary to bring in living (or worse reanimated) engineers in the equation. He came as far as he could without human (or humanoid) DNA (hosts) to blend with his creation."
I like this analysis and this is the one I will personally witness, unless more information is provided in Alien: Awakening. It would be very disrespectful for our answers to our questions are scoured across the internet by the people who did work on Alien: Covenant.
I will accept that there are answers out there on the internet, but I don't plan on looking for them. I'll just read about them if people post them on A:C. I'm not dedicating my life to finding more answers about Alien: Covenant. Apparently there are answers out there.
chli, I'm glad someone is taking the movie for what it is.

Good catch chli.
"If you listen to Scott’s audio commentary to AC, we get the information that creatures seen in David’s lab are “permutations” and the result of a lack of human DNA."

I remember David called the creatures "unions" and, yes, many were different organisms from what a humanoid host should provide based on what we saw in other films.

I love the first picture that Ingeniero posted. It looks flawless. So flawless, that it kind of looks fake. So maybe it's not flawless... Regardless of what it is, I love that escape pod picture of Vickers.

It seems (when looking at the extras on the blu-ray) that he got the xenomorph-like creature's exoskeleton through crossbreeding with bugs.

"Still, without Vickers trying to escape, Shaw wouldn't never survived that Engineer."
That is an excellent point I Moon Girl. Dr. Shaw would not have the means to stop the Engineer had Vickers decided to go all in saving those back home and stayed on the Prometheus. Things did line up for Elizabeth quite well on LV-223. David 8 put a stop to all that good fortune.

Ingeniero Sorry- a nerve was hit and it seems we should move on yes?
I guess the question that needs to be answered is whether Vickers actually escaped within the 40 seconds?
I Moon GirlAlien: Covenant Forum"You got 40 seconds to get to the escape pod."Oct 11, 2017Reply
Okay, so back to the thread then.
I probably wouldn't died with the ship if I was Vickers. Yes, so she can survive on her lifeboat, but it just wouldn't seem like the right thing to do for me. I guess that is the point of this scene with regards to the Weyland Corporation. There are no exceptions to the selfishness of Weyland Corp.
Still, without Vickers trying to escape, Shaw wouldn't never survived that Engineer. I wonder what would've happened? She couldn't out run that Engineer. That Engineer wouldn't killed Shaw, which would mean David would be at the mercy of anything, while the Engineer would've got another ship and set course to Earth (at least that's what we would assume). So in a sense, Vicker's actions saved Earth.
Yet, I don't think the writers would allow this to happen. If there was no lifeboat, then there would be another way for Shaw to kill that Engineer, or would there?
IngenieroAlien: Covenant Forum"You got 40 seconds to get to the escape pod."Oct 11, 2017Reply

No lecture from me I Moon Girl.
No respect for John Hinckley Jr. here either.
I think that is why I try to dive into the characters and events dk opposed to talking about the talented actors behind all of it. It (this forum) does provide an escape. I can't watch the news because some how every topic covered has a political connection. This is our oasis from that.

@dk
Sorry to upset you.
Still, even though it is related to politics, it's just by chance. There is no agenda pushing here, just a memory of history regardless of who was being targeted. John could've tried to kill John Lennon and it wouldn't change anything that I'm saying. He might have too, but apparently someone beat him to it.

dk, she should have stayed on the Prometheus.
I need to learn to capture video and make a music video with Shaw running to Gloria Gaynor's "I will survive" Ati. "Don't look at me!" is funny too. I need privacy while everything inside my suit is mashed up into my helmet.
Yes IRaptus. Dr. Shaw was quite blessed in laying next to the hardest rock pile on LV-223. I bet she lost very few tears for the snooty hooker who fire-blasted her husband. I bet Vickers turned out like a penny left on a railroad track.
