Ingeniero - Brilliant short story! :D

Let me add my favourite Fifield image, the CGI Fifield. It's a huge mistake that this version appears only in the deleted files.

Ingeniero good stuff mate! One thing that bugged me with the theatrical release was that Fifield's helmet is in tact again when he returns to Prometheus.

At least in the deleted scene the face shield appeared to cling to his face/head like a transparent second skin??

Who would I hug goodbye? Captian Branson. I (for some reason) am a pretty big James Franco fan, so a send-off before his cameo death in Covenant seems right to me.

Yeah- I know nothing about the movie and really don't care. Just looking at the dvd box, it looks like super hero kid's movie. A Dog's Life seems infinitely more interesting to me.

Slipping in blood is pretty realistic as blood is actually very slick.

I think it's just... different eras. What we saw in Alien wasn't necessarily what Scott saw when he imagined the future and spaceships. He did work out that aesthetic and thought it was a good one, but Alien was one of those movies that were made ahead of it's time. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade anything in the world for Alien as it is (my favorite film!) I just think that Scott had so much he wanted to do visually with the story, that one of the reasons he went back into it with the prequels, is to realize that vision. He obviously wanted to do something very different and give it a different gravitas or meaning. Or, add to the meaning as well.

The main reason I love Alien is the set design, so I love how it is, but I just feel like Scott had a lot of ideas in his mind that he could not do back then (like, a LOT). That is why we see so many recycled and reworked ideas either considered, or actually put into Prometheus and Covenant.

I think when the prequels began, a lot of us thought that he would go back to those designs and just make it, somehow BETTER. Updated, but still like what we first saw, mostly. Instead, he went more what he wanted to do originally.

Timmy the ultramorph - 'will cut out the part were ferris slips in blood'

No problem with that scene, anybody can produce similar and way much more ridiculous actions in emergency situations.

on a seperate topic, I am currently making a fan edit of alien covenant and when I was done, i was wondering if i could show it on this forum. would it be considered copyright?

it will include every deleted and extended scene on the blue ray, will cut out the part were ferris slips in blood, will add the last supper clip, the lunar audi quatro clip edited together with some of the she won't go quietly footage during the xenomorph hunt at the end, have the crossing included in the david flashback, cut out the neomorph entering the engineer temple before it kills that lady, slow down the opening title a bit for dramatic effect, use some of the vr footage of alien covenant in utero so we can get some inside of body shots with he backburster, replace on of the xenomorph Pov shots with the leaping xenomorph shot in red light, have most the meet walter footage right before the opening david scene, exept when he says that his name is walter providing the illusion that it is david that is being built, not walter,  and have the advent video as a post credits scene. its runtime will be around 2 hours and 25 minutes.

I think CGI is great, really. I agree with the sentiment that it needs to be done by the right people and it should be used mostly as additions to practical creatures/sets/effects when possible (because Covenant's creatures could have been better. They are good, but not great).

Oddly enough though, the only shot I have a problem with in Covenant is when the Xeno goes down that ladder. I can nitpick the CGI slime that drips off of it as well, but that didn't kill me. I always thought that the Resurection CGI is even effective (for it's time) and I enjoy it! Alien 3, while it's a good film, is worse though. I know it wasn't CGI, it was some new technology they did with a puppet and what not, but for me, it takes me out of the movie everytime I see it, which isn't good for an Alien film. It is subjective though. Evidenced by the fact that I like the Covenant CGI Aliens!

I welcome the CGI, but I do agree going more practical would be cool as well. It's funny with Ridley Scott, Alien seems like an outlier at this point. We know that Alien was spooky because of the limited technology and the Alien had to hide in the shadows. I get the feeling (from watching Covenant) that if he could have, the Alien encounters would have been more animamlistic and out in the open in Alien, as they were in Covenant. I almost feel like I give them TOO much credit for working with what they had back then. I mean, in reality they deserve that credit, but you know.

AC might be a word of mouth creeper. I was just at a grocery store and it was stocked with GOTG discs and zero AC discs. I am not bashing GOTG but I think it may not be long before I can get a less than $10 copy at a Wal Mart bargain bin soon just because so many copies were made.

Yes drucea. A few of us were very excited when the gold-topped structures showed up in the trailers and we discussed the significance earlier in the year. Thank you for citing it again.

BigDavechli, and I (and others) discussed this a while back in regards to the gold structures and what they were (energy source, weapon, artwork).

A bit like Yazd in Iran, or even Ancient Quarter of Jerusalem"

Well, I guess that's because you're a human being...and I'm a robot.

[My husband has speculated that David probably said this (a reversal of what Shaw said to him at the end of Prometheus) to Shaw while he was medically torturing her. :) ]

Again, though, it's just for the viewer's benefit. An actual Terminator wouldn't want or need to see rasterised Latin script assembly language instructions or words like 'Match' written in front of his eyes, any more than your alarm clock would need to read the time on its display before it wakes you up!

It's nicely done, though.

MonsterZero I'd love to see Alien3 with new CGI! Even A L I E N would be cool..

I am not sure about that. I remember being thoroughly disappointed when Lucas "updated" Star Wars and Empire. I don't think one can even find a dvd of the unedited versions. I will never forgive him for that.

I agree that it is an absolutly perfect movie. however there is ONE shot in the movie that is not perfect to me. it is when the xenomogph gets blown out of the ship. you can just tell it is a person in a suit. other than that, probably the best sci fi film of all time. if your wondering, here is my list of greatest sci fi films ever.

1: alien

2: blade runner

3: Alien 3

4: 2001. a space oddessy.

5: terminator 2 judgment day

6: inception

7: empire strikes back

8: the matrix

9: jurrsic park

10: aliens.

(honerable mentions include: prometheous, mad max fury road, the terminator, district 9, robocop, wall-e, alien covenant, akira, and ghost in the shell 1995.

i think cgi is fine as long as the audience can't tell that it is cgi.

also it has to be used to enhance. not replace.

for exaple, mad max: fury road was hailed because of its practical effects but there is actually quite a bit of cg in it. is just incorperated into it well.

as for horror. i think that you are right saying that the xenon shouldent be running around in full daylight.

show the xeno less. makes it more effective.

The one place were alien covenant really neaded the cgi that it uses was for the back burster. it would be extremly fake looking it they used animotronics at that speed. the backburster is also something that can remain scary even when in full lighting.

Humans are social creatures for the most part. I imagine people feel their preferences are validated when others share the same sentiments even if some details aren't agreed on- hence a fan base?

That is a big reason I don't like the theater experience- I can't pause or rewind if I miss something. In the theater, you're just out of luck if you miss any little detail.

Me to. it went from about a 7/10 in my book to an 8.5/10 over 3 veiwings.

I think the biggest problem with seeing t theators for me is that if you watch every single trailer and promotional image, there is like no new shots in the movie.

every single set piece was in some type of trailer or image, and I had seen literaly every single shot with the xenomorph in it before I watched it. they should definatly market less and let us be surprised.

Cerulean Blue I would argue that it is a modern sci fi classic but not horror. the horror was one of the places were I thought it kinda fell. the caesarian sequence was intence though.

Michelle JohnstonAlien: Covenant ForumUnexplained dialogue from John Logan's script

Ash's remark and the link with the missing dialogue from John Logan's Love 2015 draft.

'The notions of divine salvation, retribution, redemption etc are just projections of our own inner feelings and wishes".

This quote from you gets to the nub of what makes Covenants decision to use the Engineers as mere texture so disappointing. Your point is precisely what David should have been able to mediate for us, that David and Shaw actually did discover on the crossing that the Engineers are merely Engineers and believed they were creating machines who would fit their design preference and the reason they redacted us or were going to, is we did not confirm to their needs having moved towards a creative creationist view and determined the Engineers were more than Engineers and indeed Gods. How appalling and nihilistic and genuinely dark that view would have been however we know at the time of that script Ridley had a twist above that, based on his remarks in Autumn 2015.

How much more interesting finding out your answer which builds naturally on the narrative set up in Prometheus than -- yawn David created a protomorph which will be evolved in the next film to a xenomorph which will get out of hand and then either he or a retributive Engineer will set off to Earth with Eggs. I really do not see that as an all embracing Saga it is a reduction over about 30 years. Incidentally Trilogy in the modern world suggests three related films indeed in the case of LOTR its one story in three acts. If you call something a trilogy in cinema these days people will think Star Wars where the narrative is continuous across the entire story. It never goes into start again mode with a new set of characters.

I have made this point elsewhere but Awakening will waste another hour building characters... which will all die how on earth can you keep on repeating this stuff and carry an audience with you or more to the point grow the audience ? If Awakening reveals as little as Covenant we will be shouting Alien Engineers from the roof tops.

Your post, which is full of well thought out context on the meaning of the Prometheus mythos, which Elizabeth and the audience did not have answers to, but would have been confirmed in a Prometheus sequel. Instead you have reminded me in place of the audacious thinking you display we receive a retread with confusion which actually reminds me what meagre fair this routine entertaining film offers.

"(...) the idea, that the engineers are extinct and several of their creations followd their track and try to walk in their footsteps, become creators themselfs.."

That's a very, very interesting idea.

From this perspective, the people from Planet 4 could be even humanoids in some kind of religious devotion to their Creators, trying to walk their footsteps, as you said. The Juggernaut in which David arrives would be to them almost like some kind of Jesus's second arrival. And indeed, with it comes the apocalypse.
