I don't think so. Alien Day is Alien Day.
I think if they had something in plan, not in the works already, they would have made the announcement on Alien Day.
Apparently the author of the article in Variety, Susan King, is not really up to date about the future of the franchise. Not sure if she watched the films, for her "the baby alien lifeform bursts from Kane’s stomach". That's why everybody calls it "chestburster", right, Susan?
So I don't think she knows something we don't know.
If the studio decides to extend the story of Alien Covenant, Michael Fassbender will have to play David again not only once but twice.

I strongly hope that the scriptwriter will turn David's role from the current antagonist to a protagonist one.
Most viewers consider David as a negative figure at this moment. The scriptwriter should put a spin on his character.
David may carry out several experiments with plants, animals or embryos during long journey to Origae-6. He should not harm any humans.
When the ship arrives he will wake up a the pioneer group and the main crew (20-30 people only) according to protocol. This pioneer group will do the preparations on the surface for landing the main ship on the planet.
He may be accused by Daniels but David will point out how he had saved her life, more than once.
We can expect an ugly confrontation between the humans and the engineers in Alien Awakening. The humans will be badly defeated at the end.
David tries to protect the humans unsuccessfully and he will punish the engineers for their deeds by infecting them with the result of his experiments.
David may be the sole survivor on Origae-6 and will continue to create life that transforms the flora and fauna of the planet.
At the end of the film the badly damaged Covenant either on orbit or crash-landed on the planet still has nearly 2000 colonists in stasis.
The Weyland corporation asks the support of another company to save the stranded colonists.

When I first saw the Sacrificial Engineer in Prometheus, I thought about Lord of the Rings. So, yeah, Peter Jackson - can make a good epic Prometheus-like story.
I have not READ most of the Expanded Novels which includes Alien: The Cold Forge
Looking at the Movies Alone, then indeed there seems a Related Parasitical Element as we can see with the Neomorph Spores they release those Tiny Particles of the Parasitic Element. When David examines the Ampoule we can see Tiny Particles.
The Franchise and Expanded Comics/Games etc seem to imply a Franchise Implants a Embryo... However in ALIEN the X-Ray we dont see this, they notice a like Shadow/Mist/Cloud and so this does add up to say similar to what we see with the Neomorph Spores, only its like the Facehugger replaces the Spore and Injects the Motes/Parasitic Particles/Pathogen.
So yeah we could Speculate that these then Combine/Clump up together and start to Fuse/Multiply while taking DNA/Traits from the Host to then Construct a Hybrid Organism that becomes the Embryo/Chest Buster etc.
Sadly i am not sure we would see a Return of David... maybe only as ....

A lot of Fans are not pleased about his Character... some Felt.
*He should not be the Focus of the Prequels and too much Screen Time is Devoted to him.
*He was responsible for KILLING our Engineers and Dr Shaw, but the Engineers could still Return.
*His Character Arc was not to everyone's taste and he seemed to be a Genocidal Megalomaniac
*He Created the Xenomorph to the Disbelieve and Dismay of most.
However... you could still CHANGE his Character a bit, maybe we have to Remember "if we are KIND it will be a KIND world"
But if we only go by Alien Covenant and the Advent then it would just Paint a Picture of David only wanting to get to LV-223 and use the Place as a Test Facility to Turn those Colonist into Thousands of Eggs... until incoming Humans and Engineers Turn up!
I personally would NOT mind seeing him again, and i would not mind if the Next Time we dont get much about the Xenomorph, but this could be a Distraction as it will be expected to GET to the Xenomorph and Derelict and i cant see most Fans interested in SITTING through say 70% of a David movie or a WHOLE Movie before we get to the Xenomorphy Part.
Maybe Peter Jackson?

I think some would be interesting in more to the Engineers than just that, i think having it be about just Mankind and the Xenomorph would be limiting what Potential Prometheus had opened up... But i understand that some would not be interested in such a Expansion.
So in Context to ALIEN Franchise... yes Humans, Xenomorphs and Engineers, but i think you could have a expanded Franchise which has NO real Limits.
So you could expand it in many ways... we cant assume the Layers of the Creation Cake are.

And so we could have Layers Above, Below, Parallel Layers and then in some of these we could introduce something SINISTER.
Who Created the Engineers, who Taught them all their Knowledge and for what Purpose and where those beings Benevolent?
"I think the world presented in Raised by Wolves will not have the deranged sex offender baggage to it"
Certainly what i mean is there was more to David than that, and it appears Ridley Scotts comments regarding the Sequel would be about AI and what World David would create. That will NOT be about Xenomorphs.
Looking into his comments about AI he said that Replicants are AI and looking at how he claimed the Planet 4 Engineers are the Originals and looking at the Tale/Themes of Prometheus/Bladerunner.
Then looking at the Crossing Viral, and the Alien Covenant Trailer Song. I was drawn to David having the Potential to be kind to a degree, depending how he felt treated. And so i was drawn to think David may Evolve the Human Embryo's to become Evolved Humanoids which David would Raise and Govern over and who knows what kind of Creation Story and Rules he sets for them.
Then when another Human Ship comes in and then its what interaction between these Humanoids and Humans, and then what impact this has on Davids Children.
And so we see that Knowledge is a KEY thing... David was allowed more Free-will and Knowledge compared to Walter, Lucifer the same compared to the other Angels. And its the Upbringing, Free-Will and Knowledge that Shaped Mankind to become what was against what the Engineers would have intended.
My Prometheus sequels ideas i had discussed on here about 2013-2014 had touched upon a similar Plot... David and Dr Shaw would go to a World to Discover Engineers and HUMANS, these Humans brought up in ways that are not Corrupt as Mankind became.... then Dr Shaw interacts with these Humans and they learn of her Faith, and her Mission to Discover her Creator, and this Starts to Interest those Humans, and so the Engineers become Concerned and then aim to SILENCE Dr Shaw before she can Influence those other Humans.
This in part seems similar to the Raised by Wolves Plot, and in part its something i was drawn to maybe where RS was taking the Sequel (prior to Raise by Wolves Announcement).
Raised by Wolves seems to be about TWO Androids who are Raising Children on a Distant World, and have passed on certain Knowledge that Maintains a Certain Culture, then when incoming Humans with different Religious Beliefs turn up they Influence the Civilization those Androids are trying to Raise, and this has some Complications and maybe Confrontations.
I had pondered if Alien Covenant 2 would be similar, as in David is those Androids, and the Children are the Embryos which David will raise and Evolve... Then things go to POT once Humans from Earth arrive.
Thats what i was drawn to from RS comments...
If we only go by the Advent and Alien Covenant, then you would be drawn to David just experimenting on those Humans and Embryos to get Thousands of Xenomorphs and then he needs a Ship thats by LV-426 so you assume he would take the Covenant to LV-223
So David continues his Agenda to Evolve/Mass Create his Xenomorphs and Unleash them on Humanity! But his comments regarding the sequel seems to indicate to me that THIS is not the case.. NOT for the Next Movie... but certainly things will be very Xenomorph in the 4th Prequel.
Guillermo del Toro has a slightly similar style to Ridley Scott.

Soundtrack- main theme of the film "Relic", from 1997.
I think the Engineers are interesting only in their relation to humans / aliens creation.
They are not that interesting as a species and to make a film only about the Engineers ways of life would be like Rome on another planet. At least for Rome we can check some of the facts.
I think the Engineers contribution to the franchise is over. They created us and they failed at that. They wanted to destroy us and they failed at that too. They might have created the xenomorph but thay failed to prove it, so David took all the credit for himself.
For me it's equal if I see any Engineers in any future film or not. In the end they all have to dissapear along with any word about them.
For the people on earth they are no more than the mysterious giants found in various representations from antiquity.
Keep it that way.
Dark Nebula you have quite a collection.
I like the popcorn bath, the neomorphs seem to enjoy it like hell, the poisoning of 7up with a full ampoule of black goo, and the Wallace & Gromit / Alien crossover.
haha! Nice collection of images!
I love the Pred taking a dump in the facehugger egg XD
Very nice! Hanging upside down from a shower curtain-LOL! It would have been interesting to be hiding from a short distance and observing the posing and taking of the outdoor pics!
Great work!!!

Luke Scott.
'Morgan' 2016 is a good movie.
I wasn't aware of this at all I Raptus so thank you for pointing out the novel & the film.
I'll seek both out!
I don't think it matters much who directs. The main problem up to now has been studio/producer interference, meddling with the script & forced changes.
Good point ignorantGuy Now we just need to ask Ridley if he considers that canon in his Alien Universe! :)
The second link is better. You have the pictures in individual documents.
H. R. GIGER work deserves to be of common knowledge.
Nothing substitutes the original book, to flip through the paper pages, that feeling of possession of something unique.
Here's the link to the science article, that motivated me to create This topic,
@Lone
Reality is far more scary than fiction.
Playing God.
According to H. R. GIGER, the skin of Any kind of xenomorph has to be translucid, like we see it on the facehugger eggs when the light reflects on Them and we see the facehuggers moving, reacting to the light. Other thing that H. R. GIGER brought to the alien films was "the culture of the Kiss that Kills". Curiously, Alien Resurrection respects the wishes of H. R. GIGER, maybe because Jean pierre-jeunet is European like H. R. GIGER, and French. Both speak French, although the maternal language of H. R. GIGER is german. In switzerland, in some regions the language mostly spoked is French and, in others, is german. For instance, the swiss Roger Federer, one of the best tennis players of all time, has german as his maternal language.
