Indeed... it appears these Engineers were used for the Planet 4 Engineers, and they do appear very like those Engineers in Alien Covenant.
Of course we had latter Concepts that were more Prometheus Engineers that they went with for Prometheus.. they also had some Bizarre Engineer Concepts that went unused too.. (Thankfully)

I mean by Thankfully mainly in regards to i liked the Engineers we got in Prometheus.... and the concepts of the beings whos Hands are not attached to their Arms is a bit Bizarre.
I think apart from Proportions Engineer 2 and 6 are similar to what we have in Prometheus apart from the EARS i do like the Proportions to Engineer 1, 2 and 6 as far as maybe Introduce a NEW Species that have these Proportions and make them 12ft Tall as the Height and Proportions would match the Space Jockey Proportions and Height.
But then its what Facial Features to go for the Race i was exploring in my Alien: Absolution (Part 3 of Alien Covenant) had those Proportions but the Face was kind of a Mix of Number 1 (65%) and Number 3 (35%) or something along those lines to be Revealed as the SPACE JOCKEY standing 13ft Tall.
Ridley Scott had explained the Space Jockey Event, but this is now subject to change.....
The Derelict was on its way to a UNDISCLOSED location, it DID-NOT get Far, The Pilot had became INFECTED with his Cargo, something had EVOLVED in the Cargo and it got to the Pilot. Knowing that he was infected the SPACE JOCKEY laid a Course to the Barron Moon of LV-426 where he was attempting to QUARANTINE the Cargo, HE had Activated a SOS Warning BEACON to warn the Cargo had been COMPROMISED. The Space Jockey had INTENDED to Land on LV-426 but he started to get Chest Busted during the Final Moments.
The Space Jockey event is RELATED to the Outbreak on LV-223 and happened within a Few Hundred Years of that Outbreak that killed off nearly ALL the Engineers some 2000 years ago. Thus the Derelict event was either 2100-2200 years ago or 1800-1900 years ago... But its likely 1800-1900 years ago.
THIS ^^^ is potentially all Changed with the Route that Alien Covenant has taken.
I think the Sequel to AC sets up the Arrival of a Engineer Ship, that will set up the events to HOW Davids Creations end up on LV-426 which we have to assume is NO-WHERE near where David is heading.
David leaving a Trap... with the SOS could be plausible.
Regarding Alien 5... i think Blomkamps idea was to offer a Alternative Sequel to Aliens.. where Fans can consider it as being GIVEN TWO Options and so Alien 3 and BK Alien 5 are not connected at all... they are just TWO alternative sequels to Aliens. His idea was set 20-25 years after Aliens and appears that a Human Company/Corporation has managed to Obtain the Derelict or another Engineer Ship.
I am not sure we would ever see his Movie made though...
The Time-Travel event to explain the Ancient Derelict is something considered before, and i have never agreed its a Good Idea unless it is a ONE OFF Event.
The way i was to Tackle this... in my Alien Covenant Sequels (Alien: Ascension and Alien: Absolution ) is that at the END of Absolution Just as the beings above the Engineers are ready to USE Davids Evolved Xenomorphs (David wants Retribution for HOW they Evolved the Xenomorph) David decides to Redeem himself and DESTROY LV-223 and all of his Xenomorphs there.... The Method he does this causes a Massive Explosion but a Engineer Ship leaves just as the BLAST happens... This Blast Causes the Ship to become unstable and a Face Hugger Escapes and the Blast Also TEARS a TEMPORARY Hole in Time/Space that the Derelict Passes through...
The Space Jockey Awakens, realizes he is INFECTED and One of the Cargo Holds must have been Compromised, as the Derelict is NOW drifting in Space... he enters the Pilot Chair and Sets Course for LV-426...... To Quarantine his Cargo (he is unaware of the Destruction of LV-223 because when he looks towards the Moon it appears as it did Thousands of Years ago) so he attempts to Warn those Engineers about the Cargo is Compromised.
Totally Plausible
Would make sense that the Dorsel Tubes could be some kind of Breathing Apparatus? And so with a Breathable Environment in Alien 3 the Runner did not need them... Off Course we have to ignore the AVP Movies ;) We have to ponder does the AR Xenomorphs count, as the Station was Habitable but so was Hadleys Hope.
I think a lot comes from NEVER having any real in depth Back Ground Manual to Stick to as far as the Xenomorph and WHY there are differences. It appears each New Movie Ignores what LORE/Clues have been set down before them.
@Leto
The Bonus Material and Marketing are all things that can be TAKEN out of Canon with Future Movies and so the Knowledge of the Signal on LV-426 has to for the Time Being not be taken as Canon no more. But this could be changed depending where the Prequels END (if they ever do get made)
Right Now.... we have David setting off with the Covenant Ship to Origae-6 in Late 2104, the Covenant will take 7 years 4 Months to get to Origae-6 which means a Arrival Date of around April 2122 just over 10 years prior to ALIEN
The Engineers will Return and we can bet THIS is maybe were the Derelict comes from, or the Returning Engineers take David and/or his Creations to LV-223. Because before we get to ALIEN in context of AC here is what has to happen.
*Within the Space of 10 years prior to Alien David arrives at Origae-6 and we have to ponder what Next.
*Engineers will return and be one of 3-4 incoming Parties to arrive at Origae-6 we have to assume after David arrives around 10 years prior to ALIEN
*Davids Creation has to become EVOLVED more.
*Davids Creation has to END UP on a Engineer Ship.
*This SHIP has to be heading towards or leaving the Zeta-2 System (LV-223) just prior to the SPACE JOCKEY Event.
So thats 10 years for the above to Roll Out and we have to assume David may be on Origae-6 for a number of years prior to the Arrival of the Engineers, and also we have to assume the Derelict ends up on LV-426 for longer than Months, and so i think the most part of Alien Covenants TWO intended Sequels would Transpire between 2114-2120 Ball Park... but this is just my ASSUMPTION
@ali81
I agree with most of what you had written, The Purpose of the Prequels was " who was the big guy in the chair and what were the eggs for/ where did they come from"
The Prequels began with this.. in Alien Engineers and in context to that Question Alone it was a bit ambiguous but not as much as Prometheus. Alien Engineers was flawed as far as if people take it as the literally Alien Prequel... Logically the aftermath does-not match Alien. (The Beacon, the Wreckage of the Magellan) what it hints to me is that another Engineer Ship suffered the same Fate but crashed in a different location on LV-426 Thousands of years prior).
Alien Engineers in context to the Question.. hints that LV-426 was maybe home to a Organism, Mollusca and with some Insect Traits in appearance that the Engineers had Re-Engineered and Experimented with to Create a Variety of different Organisms to be used as Bio-Weapons. The Xenomorph being ONE kind of these experiments.
Prometheus gave us some vague clues to potentially similar... But FOX decided the Prequels should not give us the Answers or Feature Xenomorphs but Focus more on the Engineers and the Background to them given in Alien Engineers. And to mainly cover in context to the Xenomorph... vague clues to a connection and WHY they would create such Bio-Warfare...
Alien Covenant attempting to answer the WHY/HOW/WHEN in regards to the Xenomorph and Reintroduce the Organism back to the Franchise due to some Back-Lash with Prometheus and to make a New Trilogy that would NOW give us the Xenomorph Origins and lead up to ALIEN only the New CURVE-BALL that David created it... has made the Origins and Enigma of the Xenomorph Less Alien.
The Movie was more about WHY David would create the Xenomorph rather than the Xenomorph and Engineers, it was Focuses too much on WHY David would Create such a Horrific Creature.
Too much Emphasis was on David... but his Arc and Character i can understand fits PERFECTLY with the Prometheus Philosophy but i think the Execution of his Character and it seemed everything else was a sub-Plot was not very well done... More Focus should have been on other Elements and a extra 40 Minutes run time was needed and also that David merely EVOLVED and Perfected what the Engineers had created in the past.
It can be saved by having the Engineers EVOLVE Davids Creation to get to the Xenomorph and thus David is merely the Middle Man.
@Seeder9
A lot has changed and Evolved regarding the Plot for the Prequels, a number of things change Draft to Draft, Movie to Movie... But beginning with the Alien: Engineers draft and others by Jon Spaights the basis for our Engineers was a Race who had taken to Genetic Engineering and making/upgrading themselves to Perfection and in doing this they lost the ability to Procreate.. while they may Live for Thousands of Years they are not Truly Immortal... It would be like Vampires if the World had been overtake by Vampires where the Vampire Plague had infected everyone (I AM LEGEND) for instance or similar, and so Humanity had now become IMMORTAL so to speak, Vampires can be killed however.... so while they may Live Eternally, they can DIE .... What happens if becoming a Vampire means THEY can-not Procreate? If Every Human was Vampire THEY could eventually all Die out.... Especially if they need Blood (could be from Mammals).
This is maybe the Dilemma the Engineers had in Spaights Concepts and Ideas.. Hence the need to Seed Worlds with the Sacrificial Goo.
However.... as things progress Changes are made, our 15ft Engineers from the earlier drafts had been downsized to 9-10ft tall as of Final Drafts... Sadly Prometheus could not create the Illusion of 9-10ft tall and so we ended up with 7-8ft Engineers.
Alien Covenant further changed the Engineers by giving us those different looking Engineers on Planet 4, here are some of the changes we see.
*They have Female Engineers (Why the Sacrificial Scene/Purpose then).
*They are a Race who stand between 6-8ft tall.
*They are a Race who live for about 150 years (Ridley Scott claimed)
*They are the ORIGINAL Engineers (Ridley Scott claimed)
This then makes us Ponder what are the Prometheus Engineers?
Ridley Scott said the next movie would be more about AI than the Xenomorph, but he also said that Roy Baty was AI and so in that context he is saying Replicants are AI which could mean those LV-223 Engineers could be Biologically Engineered versions of themselves, Clones/Replicants per-say who MAY-NOT be able to Procreate.. And we have to ask WHY was they Engineered? Were they Created/Engineered by the Planet 4 Engineers? Are they a group who chose to Engineer/Evolve themselves?
You raise good points Seeder9 in that if there was a Conflict between the Prometheus Engineers and Alien Covenant ones, then WHY would the Covenant ones seem to not be alarmed but welcoming of the returning Juggernaught.
Ridley Scott had refereed to the Prometheus Engineers as like their Military and this maybe could make sense... but the Juggernauts only real Military Power is dropping the Cargo of Bio-Weapons. But maybe they had other ships with other Weapons/Defenses. Having those Engineers as Military would make SENSE more IF our Planet 4 Engineers looked like the Sacrificial Engineer in Prometheus... but they DONT so i think a lot of Problems is there is NO set Background to Stick too, so like many things in the Prequels it appears their is NO Creative Control and a case of TOO MANY COOKS in the Kitchen.
So its a case of NOW do we take the Advent Reveals on-board as to what is going on? Then indeed the Wolf/Lamb becomes interesting to ponder...
"Maybe sacrificial Engineers and Destroyer Engineers both use Juggernauts now and the teardrop ship is a thing of the past?"
Possible and i propose the idea that the Juggernauts are just the latter version of Seeding Ships that they use instead of the Ancient Pebble Ships and Sacrificial Method. HERE
Here is my latest Reply on that thread as i feel it fits more with this one...
I think we need to wonder and ask what is the WHOLE Purpose for it all, and this is a Question that we dont have any real definite answers for. The KEY thing that RS mentions over and over are they are Space Gardeners but this could mean they are Genetic Gardeners where they Seed/Grow/Evolve Various forms of Species/Organisms or it could be read into the Purpose for this is to Harvest them... so its ambiguous.
If we look back to Alien:Engineers which kick started the whole Back Ground to the Engineers then their Ancient Species had Evolved themselves past needing to Procreate (they lost this ability due to Evolution, a Evolution Engineered by themselves) So it was hinted that the Sacrificial Scene was a attempt to Spread their DNA for the Greater Good/Future of their Species.
IF you was on of those in Charge of this Agenda.. then indeed having a Place to TAKE/KEEP your Perfected Results to use them as a Basis to Reseed on other Worlds makes Perfect Sense.
My theory for the Engineers Sacrifice was to Eventually regain Female Humanoids they could Procreate with in order to Populate their Genepool which i made a Topic on prior to the Release of Alien Covenant and when i see those Planet 4 Engineers they appeared to be like Human/Engineer Hybrids to me.
But Ridley Scott referred to those Engineers as Originals and so our LV-223/Prometheus Engineers must be Genetically Engineered beings like Replicants are in Blade Runner.

OH NO!!!!
Hope this does not mean Marvel References when Disney Finally do get to make a Alien Movie lol
Thanks for the heads up ;)
I want say, what prequel series is no longer about LV-426 or Derelict. No. It's separate story. Especially since Covenant year 2104, Alien year 2124. 20 years? Minus 7 years for path to Origae-6 (if David go on this planet, not back to the Zeta 2 Reticuli). Too little time.
Maybe next RS Alien movie will be between Alien and Aliens - enough time to path and experiments. As variant (with LV-426) - maybe David go to LV-426 after Nostromo and modified aliens on a board Derelict and give them queen.
From additional materials to Prometheus we know, what Derelict was on LV-426 before Prometheus expedition. And hologram Engineers, when David find Juggernaut, talking about this incident.
The ambiguousness that pervades Covenant makes it difficult to postulate much of anything with certainty, but Ridley did indeed say the Engineers would return to find their world decimated. Any species of life could eventually die off, even a billion+ year old species of Engineers. It was mentioned in earlier Prometheus scripts that The Engineers may have been unable to procreate like humans anymore, having lost the ability in their more recent past. Even being capable of living 300,000 years, without a procreative solution they could devolve & die out. But, you would think with such a high level of genius and advanced knowledge of biology and engineering that they would be able to find a solution.
In the Advent video David does not explicitly state that The Engineers are all gone, but he does refer to the humanoids on Planet 4 circuitously as Engineers and references them in past tense. Says they were religious people that believed sacrifice would absolve them of their sins and that they were creators that understood that you have to give life to the wolf & the lamb. Then goes on to say that they decided to "cast out the wolves and undo their creation" with more ambiguousness, not defining what their "wolves" or "creations" were. When David references *his* wolf he is refering to the Xenomorph and his lambs are the colonists. We would then be compelled to take it that the Engineer's wolves would be similarly vicious
We can speculate that :
The Prometheus Engineers were their creations, as advanced organic AI. Genetically modified for the rigors of space. Biologically perfect. But could they also be their wolves? The sacrificial Engineer could be an earlier version of organic AI that carried Engineer DNA and the "Destroyer" Engineers seen on LV-223 could have been the latest evolution of them, or a different faction. Opposed to the sacrificial Engineers. Bent on destroying life seeded by its creators. Being the banished wolves. But why cheer on the ships of a "returning wolf", as we see in AC? Maybe sacrificial Engineers and Destroyer Engineers both use Juggernauts now and the teardrop ship is a thing of the past? So the people of Planet 4 thought that the Destroyer Engineers were wiped out, expecting friendly sacrificial Engineers to be aboard David's Juggernaut....
The LV-223 Engineers were seemingly ambushed and attacked. Perhaps the Planet 4 "original Engineers" used sacrificial Engineers (that believed in their purpose) to wipe out the rebel faction on LV-223, that had been gearing up to commit genocide on numerous Engineer-seeded planets as an ultimate act of rebellion that failed.
yes def Ward's wooden planet I believe would be the best version for DH to put into comics. would be great to see what they do and I love what DH have done in the past with alien and predator so I think it would be a huge success. theres no limits for the artwork that accompanies that script. no wonder it was Finchers preferred choice of scripts
Depends on where you are in the world I Moon Girl but Im sure there are online stores that could ship a copy to you.
Dark Horse do offer digital comics if you don't have access to physical copies however.
https://digital.darkhorse.com/
The more I think of it, the more i want a Vincent Ward Alien 3 graphic novel!! Do it Dark Horse! XD
thoughts_dreams, I don't regard AVP or AVPR to be a part of the franchise, either franchise in that regard. to me, they r spin off films but its purely a personal stand point.
they can save it tho. id rather have it perhaps go down like this..
we find David on origae 6. he has experiment on a large portion of the sleeping covenant crew and has his creature and allows the remaining crew to colonise the planet. he then releases his version of the xeno on the settlers to observe his creation naturally, using the settlers however they do to procreate. the engineers return to planet 4, see whats happened and get really pissed. while their enroute to gain revenge we see inside their ship and its revealed they have a cargo of weapons, THEIR eggs, the same eggs we see in the original movie. when they arrive they unleash hell on origae 6 and David, with the help of the human survivors (who are unaware David was responsible for what happened to them), realises he and HIS creations are no match for the engineers and their bio-mechanical xeno and manages to escape the planet. the engineers give chase and in Davids redemption (somehow he manages to release one of the engineer face huggers aboard the engineer ship which gets the pilot), he manages to take down the engineers ship which now becomes the derelict on lv426. they can have David crash land on lv223 or whatever and that gives u more questions and the possibility of a future film revealing what happens to him.
given the choice of losing either the origins of the xeno we see in Alien or the length of time the derelict has been on lv426, Id give up the latter. for me, its a good compromise. it keeps the xeno origins alien to us and we can see Davids realisation that his attempts at playing god are futile. unfortunately I don't think this will happen :-(
for me, and I am only speaking for myself, the issue I have with David is that it seems he is the star focus of the show now. what I love about the original film is that not only is it a masterpiece, it left me wanting more and asking questions. the question Ridley was supposed to be answering in this trilogy. who was the big guy in the chair and what were the eggs for/ where did they come from? its mysterious and alien and having seem the xeno stalk and wipe out the crew of the Nostromo, there is an obvious sinister motive to how they got there, whether it was a storage unit or being transported to be used in some kind of war. and so it should have remained alien to us. but it doesn't look like it is. Fassbender is wonderfull as David esp in Prometheus but now he and his motives ARE the focus and that's just the same old guff we get in other sci-fi franchises. should the creation of the original xeno we see in Alien remain alien to us? hell yes 100%. the derelict scene in Alien IS the franchise. RS said it himself when making the original. the set was huge, physically and financially and the studio wanted it scraped but Ridley said 'this scene MAKES the movie'. David may be an android but making the xeno and the eggs in the derelict his creation takes something away from that scene. its now less 'alien' to the viewer. iv said it before, ill never be able to look at the derelict scene in Alien the same way with the same level of wonder and intrigue if/ when David is revealed to be the one responsible for putting them there and the ship not being thousands of years old. the scene will have lost something to me and the simple fact is they should kept its origins alien to us.
now in AC, I thought David was ok but the film itself was poorly done. it flew by important parts far too fast and the horror of the creatures potential lost. they died far too easily imo. it needed another 30 mins I think.
HOW the Runner Alien in Alien 3 had a similar Head to the Original and NOT like the ones in Aliens. Nice one BigDave! I would suggest atmosphere/environment played a part. The Aliens creatures were on a developing planet in a hive at a huge heat source while A and A3 were not- the egg came from LV 426 but ended up on a ship in space (that's a dome scratcher but there it is). Additionally, it is interesting the Runner did not have dorsal tubes unlike any other Xeno.
The big question that I haven't read in the comments section or in the post is...
Where do I get one when July comes?!
I like the idea because Alien3's motivation is kind of off and ambiguous. In all honestly, it is is on the border of being to vague and vogue enough. Actually, to me, it leans closer to being to vague.
The reasoning being...
1. How does the facehugger get on the Solaco?
2. What causes it to hatch?
3. How does the Queen get inside Ripley?
Those are some big questions that drive the whole movie which are really almost to vague and are almost stretched to the point where they're not really logical either.
@BigDave I feel that may be the reason why the Alien3 gets a re-release in the comic book format. Plus, with the franchise being pushed to the headlines with A:C just being released in theaters, I see it is just free advertisement for the Alien3 comic books. Plus, since Alien: Awakening is in an apparent state of limbo, why not try and re-release one of the most holey plots of the franchise?
Regardless of how holey it is, I still like Alien3. I just wish it took 5 min. to at least TRY and answer my question. They don't have to be answered, but they didn't even TRY.
So, back to my first question...
Where do I buy the comic books?!
Agree with Gee W!
Gibson's script would probably transfer well as a comic. Lots of action, some cyberpunk attitude, Hicks as a grizzled protagonist.
Ive always been intrigued by Ward's script. The plot needs a lot of refinement but the premise is so unique and grand. The protagonist doesn't necessarily need to be Ripley. I can't see it as a comic or film, but yes! a graphic novel would be amazing!
I haven't read Brandywine script but I strongly dislike any premise where the Xenomorph has been domesticated or leashed for 'bio-weapon' applications.
I can't see the harm in a Bloomkamp script comic....at least that way they dont need to worry about the whole de-aging of Weaver and Biehn problem lol
Thanks for the reply.
I think i already mentioned it last year in another thread but i still think this is NOT their homeworld but a sacral / recreation colony where they live in harmony with the nature.
Planet 4 would be the perfect location to grow the purest of their kind for eventual sacrifices.
In this regard i agreee with you and i think the local specimen expected to get picked up by the Juggernaut for a sacrifie on a distant world so they would get immortal, in a spiritualic sense.
In retroperspective:
David destroyed the engineers seeding planet, with all promising Engineers which lived there and will be really pissed as they can NO longer be the space-gardeners anymore.
I'm gonna bet David's 'dead' body was the beacon and he crashed the ship hoping
humanity would find it and destroy themselves.
Other random thoughts - Concept art for NB's alien 5 showed Ripley/Jockey. It also
showed a derelict. Well what if Ripley escaped with the derelict (either the one from lv426 OR another one set wherever the art was supposed to depict - cuz there was a new Queen), let's say attempting to fly into the sun or something, and she somehow went through a wormhole and crashed landed on lv-426 in the past thus creating ALIEN 1 lol? They could have had HIS alien 5 now (with newt and hicks - a true sequel to aliens) and then kept 3 & 4 still cannon and make a final movie that picks up after 4? How dope is that?
Another thing mentioned before.....
There could be DIFFERENT Cargo Holds on the Derelict.
Thus the Alien Big Chap and Aliens Warriors could be different and maybe Procreate Different because they are TWO different Variations of the Bio-Weapon.
Alien: Engineers shows us the Ships had Multiple Cargo Holds where EACH had a slightly different Version of the Bio-Weapon.
The only Problem with this would be HOW the Runner Alien in Alien 3 had a similar Head to the Original and NOT like the ones in Aliens. We could also ponder the same for the Alien Resurrection Clone Xenomorphs.
So again i think the Topic is still open for DEBATE ;)
Following on from the Last Post..... i have another theory...
WHAT IF..... the Juggernauts are NOT Military War Ships?
We have to look at the Back Ground to the Engineers, we see that LV-223 had been there for at least 35'000 years, we see ONLY 2000 years ago they attempted to Destroy Mankind, and so they came and Nurtured us and Taught us for over 33'000 years.
The Back Ground for the Engineers are Gardner's of Space and RS has associated them more with this task, than a Race who are Hell Bent on Creating EVIL Weapons to Destroy Worlds they had invested a Lot of Time and Effort with.
Cast your Eyes back to the Sacrificial Scene... a SCENE of Great Importance to the Engineers, where ONE Sacrifice is Chosen to Seed his DNA across a World. Dropping a Engineer off to Consume the Sacrificial Substance and allow the broken down Engineer DNA combined with this Substance to Fly into the Wind and Fall into the Water... Is this really the IDEAL way to Seed a World?
Cast your Eyes to the Bombardment Scene in Alien Covenant and look at the Plaza both during this scene and the scenes after...
The Plaza is HUGE surrounding it on Pedestals are Statues of Engineers. So these have a Importance but WHY surround the Great Plaza?
The Center of the Plaza we have a Juggernaught Hanger that is opening up to Welcome the Juggernaught home, BUT surrounding the HANGER are FOUR STATUES and these are similar to the Buddha Offering Statues.

WHAT IF.......
The Juggernauts are just a MORE Advanced and Improved Seeding Ship? Because as a WARSHIP they had no kind of Weaponry other than to Drop the Cargo of Urns.
If these Ships or some Place connected to the HANGER the Engineers SELECT a Sacrifice or Sacrifices and these Engineers are given the Sacrificial Substance while they are standing in some Container/Vat or other method where their Broken Down DNA can be Collected and Stored within the Urns or the Ampoule Part of the Urns..... instead of just allowing a Engineer to Sacrifice their DNA to go into the Wind/Waters...
Having Collected Engineer DNA and Stored into Urns would NOT dropping these Urns to unload the Engineer DNA be a more EFFICIENT way than the Sacrificial Scene?
Maybe by having the DNA of Many Sacrifices would give them more Bio-Diversity?
IF this theory is CORRECT then it fits with the whole Engineers as Genetic Gardeners of Space, it would explain WHY!
*The Juggernauts have no other Weapon Systems.
*The Engineers were Welcoming the Juggernaught as if this Signals a EVENT of Great Importance.
*They HAD no FEAR for the Returning Ship.
*Why there are the various Statues around the Plaza and Hanger.
So we have Engineers whom to be selected as a CHOSEN Sacrifice is a Great Honor as it signals they are considered among the Purest/Perfect Specimens of their Species.
These CHOSEN are Sacrificed to make the Seeding Material in the Urns, they will LIVE on Immortalized in their DNA providing LIFE and CHANGE to Worlds they Seed... where all LIFE can trace its DNA back to the CHOSEN Sacrifice.
And they are Immortalized in Remembrance by having a Statue in the Plaza Erecting in their IMAGE and HONOR
This is the THEORY i have to Explain it all, i am not sure IF this is what they was thinking as far as the Purpose for this place and the Engineers, but it fits with the History/Back Ground in Prometheus.
What i was more DRAWN to was the City Itself, the Plaza, the Statues and the way these Engineers appeared compared to those in Prometheus.
Such a Advanced Race, with seemingly little Protection from invading Forces, and no real Protection against their own Bio-Weapon Cargo Ships. With only ONE Central Hanger that opens to allow the Juggernauts to Return and ONE Docking Ship which Wayne Haagg had said was like some kind of Border Control ship.
The Engineers appeared to be all gathering in GREAT numbers to the area surrounding the HANGER they also seemed to be WELCOMING the Juggernaught and Cheering, we even HEAR a Trumpet like Instrument to Signal the Arrival.
So THIS event was seen as something very IMPORTANT to the Engineers, were they welcoming HOME one of their Returning Military Ships? But this place did not have the look of a MILITARY Docking Installation. If this was a Military Welcoming Party then do those Engineers really know what the Cargo is? Are they aware of the Black Goo? And LV-223?
If so then we have to ask why they are so CALM like they was never expecting the Ship to ATTACK if the Engineers are aware of the Ships Purpose and that is a Bio-Weapon Bomber and they are aware of what LV-223 was.
Then the Next Question is are these Engineers aware of the purpose for LV-223? Are they aware of the Intended Destruction of Earth and maybe other Worlds via the Black Goo?
If so then we have to ASK why do they not have more adequate Border Control and Protective Measures and WHY are those Engineers Calm? Are they so Naive that they feel there is NO-WAY any other species can Obtain and Use their Weapons of War? Are they NOT concerned with the potential for INNER CONFLICT and so are all of their Species all at Peace with Each Other?
So that.....
*There is NO way any other Species could use or obtain their Warships?
*There would NEVER be any reason for their Species to EVER attack their own kind?
Naive and what a Hubris....
Indeed IF the Juggernauts are WARSHIPS...
Minor spoilers for Alien: The Cold Forge
Finished reading the the book
As for the timeline:
2176, Cold Forge is setup for Dr. Marsanis project.
June - July 2179, The Jordens discover the derelict at the coordinates provided by C. Burke followed by the Hadley's Hope outbreak.
~ July 2179, Cold Forge Incident.
It seems they had another source of eggs because at the time the Jordens (re)discover the derelict Dr. Marsani is already working on/with the eggs for quite some time. Unless they exploited the derelict in secret before.
It also appears that Carter Burke had more than just the derelicts coordinates going on.
P.Praepotens is also very interesting. Is the black goo actually P.Praepotens, in an extracted or synthezied form?
Seems i never commented non this Topic... so here we go...
The Bombardment is Interesting as on ONE hand it does appear the Cargo is released and reaches a certain altitude before they Explode and so we can ASSUME there was some kind of Protective Shield. There are a few problems with this.
*The Shield Obviously did not work... was it a ancient device that had simply failed? was it a device not intended to Protect against the Juggernauts kind of Weapon Delivery System?
*What device Projected this Shield? It appeared to be a Dome like Invisible Barrier but then it could just be like a Flat Round Protective Barrier as the Black Goo appeared to spread as if it had hit a Circle Flat piece of Glass rather than a Dome. What we do see is the Black Goo Forms a Cloud that moves outwards from the Center where the Urns Exploded, so it looked like a Small Hurricane with the Eye of the Storm being the area the Cargo Exploded and the Goo was Spread Outwards in a Spiral Pattern.
Maybe the Cargo has a Set Time when the Explode from Deployment and as part of the Explosion the Black Goo is expelled outwards from the Center of the Explosion where it gathers as a Swirling Cloud of Death and after a small period of time when it reacts with the Air the Black Goo then begins to Rain down to the Ground?
So the WHOLE Barrier/Shield Debate is still OPEN
Revisiting this after Alien Covenant shows us a few things.
Certainly in the year's 2093-2094 and so at the time Prometheus has taken place, we see that there are Engineers (or related Race) on the Planet David and Dr Shaw Eventually arrive at. So they was NOT Extinct as of prior to Davids Arrival.
Upon Arriving David Unleashes Hell on these beings and performs Genocide on their Species on this Planet killing what we can assume nearly all of them, and any who survived eventually would have died or been caught by David and used for his Experiments.
As of the END of Alien Covenant, we can assume there are NO Engineers left on that World (Planet 4).
But Ridley Scott gives us a insight into the sequel, where he confirms the Engineers will return to this World and discover the devastation and would no doubt be looking for the culprit.
So the Engineers are NOT extinct....
This World that David and Dr Shaw arrived at appears to be a Outpost/World that is inhabited by what Ridley Scott refereed to as the Original Engineers.
RS also mentions that Engineers Return to this World at certain regular intervals, this could be years as in 5, 10, 20 or much more like Hundreds of Years... But they do come and go to Planet 4.
I would still argue the case that Planet 4 CAN-NOT be the only World these Engineers Inhabit.. I would still Ponder their could be Many more out their in the Universe because WHY have other Galaxies on their Navigation Systems
I find a lot of Problems Stem from the Writers and how AC has to be Shoe-horned to Alien.... With 28 years to go to ALIEN having a Engineer World Thousands if not Tens of Thousands of Light Years away would fit the Story as far as Engineers Ships going to this place (David and Dr Shaw) But this would mean HOW do you introduce Humans into this Story and have it Directly Connect down the line to ALIEN?
This i feel is why Planet 4 aka Engineer Home-World had to be made some place much more closer to Earth to allow for a Human Ship to Arrive and Depart and set up Events that will lead to ALIEN all within a limited Time-Frame.
I think its a bit to much of a Coincidence the Engineers lived that close, and this could cause Continuity Problems and Questions for the Future and indeed the Original Alien Franchise.
I would like to think that Planet 4 was one of MANY Worlds the Engineers had inhabited. And so i think they are still FAR from Extinct... but that those that remain are located in the very Far Reaches of our Galaxy or even located in other Galaxies.
The opening echoes the original Alien 3 opening, so that rules out a couple of scripts. I'd love to see a version of Ward's story, that would work very well as a graphic novel. I'm also curious about Blomkamp's idea. I never had much faith in it, but it can't do much harm in comic form. And if it turns out to be good, maybe he deserves a shot with an original Alien story (but leave Ripley out of it, that story is done)...
It could be interesting to see where they go with this...
A number of unused ideas/concepts always seem to make their way into Future Movies/Drafts and indeed Blomkamps Alien 5 kind of has elements from the Brandywines Alien 3 and Gibsons Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection Certainly has that Gibsons Alien 3 element to it.
I am just wondering WHY NOW?
And so i think maybe there is the potential we could see WHAT Plans Niel Blomkamps Alternative Alien 3 would have been like.
Im back after a hibernation phase;)
New theories are welcome 0/
The Engineers are surely looking for clues on planet 4 after the pandemic event.
It may take several years for the first scout/research ships so arrive but they will get really pissed of and unleash some nice high tech on the next threat they find.
I think if only some had Read this before seeing the Movie lol may have saved them some Despair..
Its kind of a Broad Accurate Summary, i can understand the changes and how the movie did not quite for-fill its potential.
Comes down to..
*Caving in to Fan Reaction/Disappointments with Prometheus and the lack of Answers/Xenomorphs.
*Again feeling the Majority of Viewers/Fanbase would want more Xenomorphs, and not find out Dr Shaws Answers to the Questions she had in store for the Engineers, and exploring the Engineers role more.
*Trying to then please Alien, Aliens and Prometheus Fans by offering a little here and there to appease all but not enough to appease any.
*Lacked a extra 30-45 Minutes and $40-50M Budget to pull the above off.
"CATAINJFUNEL or CATAIN?FUNE" I meant CATAINI?UNE
So indeed it seemed likely to be F but it does not quite match and so its more of a V than the similar shape in the Engineer Hieroglyphs.
The Problem with Engineer Writing is that on a lot of the works, as far as where it appears we cant make out where the Spaces are.
So the Cat had the Hat is (sothecathadthehat) but you imagine if English was not your first Language and you had to figure where the spaces between words are!
I think a lot of Engineer Writing Once you can Translate it to the English Alphabet... you have to then figure where the spaces are and then Translate the Words from Latin and Greek to get English.
So i think its a case of how many Spaces are between CATAINJFUNEL are we looking at CATAIN as first word? CATA... then.. INJ and once we figure out how this splits into words we then run them via Greek and Latin Translations to get what we want.
So in Reverse Order we take CURSE into Latin to get MALEDICTUM
and then we Translate that to Engineer. But Sometimes its Translated to Greek and so the Word would be ΚΑΤΑΡΑ
Thus the Engineer for CURSE would be either..

Thats how my Study worked it out... a lot depends IF it indeed is a case of the Engineer Alphabet = a Word that is either Latin or Greek (i think they mix and match it) then Translate the Greek/Latin to English and see if it makes sense..
They KEY is knowing where the Words are Spaced Out... because well
ΛΟΓΙΑΕΙΝΑΙΔΙΑΚΟΠΗΕΞΩ
Would make no Sense to those who dont understand Greek and could not even guess the Spaces.
I knew the 1st neomorph didn't perish in the explosion, it was killed during the scourge in the grass.
I'm no Proto-Indo European expert, but I also got CATAINJFUNEL.
The 8th letter is F

Whether this is an actual word written in PIE or just a button mash.
Those lines on the book cover are the actual lines that can be found in the hall of heads, carved on the ground (representing the galaxy?).
I knew there was something suspicious about it when I first saw that.

Reminded me of Romulan Senate.

I think it depends on how long the Embryos stay in the Eggs... It certainly is a good point as far as those Embryos must have came from the Smaller Eggs..
We simply dont know HOW those Smaller Eggs Grow to the Size of the ones in the Egg Catacomb unless they are planted and Grow....
But we dont know how they grow, what process is involved, or how old the Smaller Eggs are compared to the Larger Ones. David does have some Smaller Eggs in his Workshop.

The Question regarding how do these fit with the Large Eggs and how they are created is something thats very ambiguous. So too is the whole situation with Dr Shaw as far as WHEN she was captured by David, and HOW long was she kept like this being experimented on.
Its doubtful she has been Dead for Many Years, but its open to debate for how LONG she had been dead by the time the Covenant Arrive.
Here are a few shots of Dr Shaw as far as Props where we can get a better look at what happened to her.

Of Note... Its also likely the Head Crest is there to make a connection to the Xenomorph Queen Crest and so to Symbolise/Show that Dr Shaw is in effect the Queen to those Xenomorph Eggs... rather than actually being some construction to keep her alive..
Looks a Interesting Book, maybe a Must have for me ;)
I have Translated the Engineer at the bottom to Alphabetical.
I can make out CATAINJFUNEL or CATAIN?FUNEL where i am not 100% sure on the 8th Letter. Can anyone make sense of this?
If Shaw is dead then she died recently because the facehuggers David brought on the Covenant were embryos.
@ignorantGuy
I can see your point regarding David likely had not seen the full extent of the Pathogen, its a bit ambiguous how much they knew of the Creature in the Med-Pod bay... it depends if we go by Drafts and Exras..
But by Prometheus itself David did Examine Dr Shaw and he Knew she was Pregnant with a None Traditional Fetus... so he knew she was not having a Human Child, he would likely had known Dr Shaw could not conceive Naturally. He had confirmed after Spiking Holloways Drink that Dr Shaw and Holloway had Sex.
So David would have figured the Black Goo he spiked in the drink had made its way to Dr Shaws Womb and caused the Alien Fetus, David would surely Ponder HOW this could have happened. Which Logically leaves 3-4 Scenario's (covered on here before so will skip)
We dont know how much Engineer Writing he had saw and translated so we dont know how much he knew from LV-223 but he was bound to know a little... And upon Bombarding Planet 4 he would learn more.
so looking at a Starting Point, if you was David and wanted/wondered what would have became of the Aborted Fetus of Dr Shaws and you had Female Engineers and Dr Shaw.... you would surely know that the Black Goo has some effect on the Reproductive Organs of the Female Species and certainly it would be one path you would be wanting to conduct some experiments on.
