I would rather I have an alternate dimension of a true Prometheus sequel, moody and atmosphere with an highly original soundtractk and without Weyland-Yutani James Bond like conspiracies, without killer robots (explore AI when it meets things that they can not process), but ancient beings, terrifying in their strangeness. (Be they ancient giant pale humans).

it really depends on what they want to do. is alien 5 gna be an 'alien' movie, then fine id like to see it. where covenant fell was I think it was neither an 'alien' movie nor a Prometheus sequel. give us a clear understanding of what type of movie wer getting and it could do well

I hope that Disney leaves Alien Covenant alone, and doesn't make any sequel. David's story in Alien Covenant deserves to be the final stamp on the franchise, especially because of David's link to Upworth and Ricks

Alien Covenant was the ultimate instalment in the franchise; time to let the franchise go

I think a lot depends on knowledge of the Cycle...

If you knew of this, then you would have to find a way to Kill Yourself, and the Xenomorph, which would require a Heavy Wound to the Chest, like Shotgun, or Impalement on a Large Stake etc, or Explosion or Fire.

A lot depends on if you knew how far gone you was with the infection and if the Xenomorph requires a Live Host, or just a Host who is not decomposing.   Thus would a jump off a Tall Building, actually effect the Xenomorph?

Trying to get it removed would be tricky, because then you would have to consider the potential for when its removed and who by, what kind of Agenda they would have with the Organism.

Its for that Reason, that i think Ripleys Sacrifice in Alien 3 was the only real way to deal with the situation.

Thanks for the reply Chris...

Indeed i was going to post my reply as part of the OT but it may have been long so i cut it into two parts...

So indeed as your reply states, my 2nd part was to touch upon things like you mentioned, which was that i feel ALIEN 5 had some good ideas, but i am not sure that going the whole Ripley route is a good idea.

I was worried when Ridley Scott mentioned about how Ripley was someones Child, which made me feel the sequel to Alien Covenant they would be trying to Spoon Feed a Ripley Family connection when i dont think its needed.

But i do think ALIEN 5 Plot was interesting one if we took these ideas and simply removed any Ripley connections... so a movie where in future a company discovers a Engineer Ship and tries to obtain it would be very interesting.

A movie that explore the Egg Morph, would explore applications or Engineer Technology (Reverse Engineering) and introduce us to alternative versions of the Xenomorph would for me be something interesting.

However bringing in a direct Aliens sequel, with Ripley, Newt and Hicks and Xenomorph Queens for me would only please the Fanboys.. but i feel its these things that could have changed the direction of any Prometheus 2 to become Alien Covenant.

I actually think they need to not change things laid down in other movies, and so No resurrection of Ripley,  and i think the same has to be said with Alien Covenant...    Alien Franchise Ripley was killed off, there is the potential for a Alien 5 as a direct sequel to Alien Resurrection but how could this be done?    Surely a Self healing Ripley 8 would not Age... but i had a explanation for how this could be done and was going to work on a ALIEN V: Vengeance  which would be somewhat like the FLY movie... in that the Xeno DNA Ripley 8 would start to revert back to Xeno DNA, where Ripley's Skin would start to shrivel up and decay much like SETH in the Fly, and as Seth slowly became the FLY, a Ripley 8 would slowly become more Xenomorph.

This would have allowed for a older Miss Weaver to play the role, and introduce something fresh and not have to worry about CGI to De-Age her.

Because for me the Franchise had killed Ripley off, and i dont think going for a Re-boot of any Aliens sequels would be the Good idea.. what happened in Alien 3 and Alien R should be considered Canon.

Just as with David now being the Xenomorph creator needs to stay, we cant have them U-Turn all over the place, we can just hope they get more creative with the WAY Davids Creations end up on a Engineer Ship and why this ship would be heading towards the LV-223/426 system.

Blomkamps Alien 5 seemed to have some interesting ideas, at the basis of it all it was a way to introduce Ripley back into the Franchise and bring back the Xenomorphs.... but it did have some fresh ideas.

Not much was known about the Plot, and it would be nice to eventually get more information and anyone who has any are welcome to share it here.

The Plot by Blomkamp was reported to be a Long 10 Page Synopsis more than any actual Draft, the Movie idea would have in effect been a ALTERNATIVE Sequel to ALIENS were it would have been set some 20-25 years after the events of ALIENS with Ripley and Hicks no doubt settling down to a peaceful future together with Newt... Miss Weaver said she felt Ripley deserved a Happy Ending.. but i dont think the Franchise requires Happy Endings.

So it appears some 20 plus years had past by, Newt would now be a grown Woman in her 30's Concept work seemed to show Newt in what looked like a Pilot Uniform.   But at some point in 20 plus years after the events of Aliens, some Company has indeed got its hands back on a Engineer Juggernaught or maybe even the Derelict itself.

The Plot seems to show that some Outpost/Facility had obtained a Engineer Juggernaught/Derelict, and this outpost had a very Oriental Feel to it....   And indeed Concept work shows us some Military Personnel who had a Korean Flag.

Some of the ideas shown are not just mearly a case of a Asian Company obtain a Engineer related Ship, as yes indeed the concept work shows they also obtain a Xenomorph Queen which they try to contain, but it gets lose...  But it also seemed to show that they was going to explore and introduce us to some other different forms of Xenomorph, from Different Eggs, Face Hugger and no doubt Adult Xenomorphs.

The Plot also seemed to show us prehaps a Hive set up, with what looks like a Egg Morph in Process, it appeared a Humanoid was being consumed and merged with a Hive like backdrop much like we saw in the deleted ALIEN Scene and so a Egg Morph was maybe going to be explored...  Ripley looks on in Horror at this.. whats interesting is the Humanoid being Egg Morphed does have a resemblance to BISHOP, surely not the Android from Alien?

Another interesting idea was we see Ripley wearing some kind of Engineer Suit, and so it looked like we may explore Engineer Technology and how Mankind can use this Technology.

I think ALIEN 5 had some interesting ideas.... i am not so sure about having to do a sequel that continues Ripleys Story, even though the Rumor was the movie would set up NEWT to become the New Central Character and Heroine of Future movies.

I do however believe the Plot as far as a company uncovering and obtaining a Engineer Ship, and then trying to experiment maybe on the Xenomorph/Black Goo or introduce us to variants of the Xenomorph (maybe Each ship had different Cargo or many Cargo Holds with different variants?)

I thought this was interesting... but also the concept of a Human using Engineer Technology (Ripley Space Jockey Suit) is something that would be interesting to explore.

I will leave you now with some Concepts and feel free to discus what you interpret from them and what the Plot could have been, and if you think this kind of Movie would have worked... or if these ideas could be used but maybe replace the Ripley/Hicks/Newt with new Characters.

In all honesty, I think Alien 5 would fall prey to the same fate as Covenant. Re-introducing familiar plot elements and monsters simply doesn't cut it anymore. Look at how many people are saying Prometheus was BETTER than Covenant and throughout many discussion forums, I'm seeing a lot of people more interested in the Engineer story arc than the Xeno's.

Assuming not much was to change with Blomkamp's Alien 5, we would have been given a nostalgia-driven fan service film, full of gimmicky salutes to the Cameron's Aliens. It would not hold water with the majority of both movie-goers and Alien fans in general.

The fandom is certainly divided right now, but from what I read, those complaining about the familiarity of Covenant and how boring it was or how predictable its plot played out are the same ones supporting Alien 5, which would essentially be the SAME thing, but instead of it being a nostalgia kick to 79's ALIEN, it would be the Covenant to ALIENS

Now, I have my own gripes with Covenant, and for the most part I agree with the critics on almost all of their points, unlike when Prometheus released - but I am NOT for regurgitating the same story over and over and although I adore Sigourney Weaver and would love to see Ripley kick ass in space again, I just can't bring myself to support a plot that would upset the entire fabric of this franchise's timeline just for the sake of showing a familiar face. That tactic didn't work out so well for the Terminator franchise, and I see Alien 5 being akin to Genisys more than anything to be honest.

The ONLY way I would get behind Alien 5 is if the story were altered so that it ran parallel to the Prometheus series so that:

Alien Covenant 2 would pursue the Engineer side of the franchise, exploring the expansion of the Alien universe for those Prometheus die-hards like myself

Alien 5 act as a Xenomorph / action thriller satisfaction for those longing for the familiar and the tried and true.

One gives us the expanse we're wondering about while the other gives us a narrow view of one aspect of this franchise, WHILE still remaining canon and connected to the events which unfold in the parallel Prometheus timeline.

The separation of the two timelines would cause confusion and upset the flow of where this franchise is headed. (ala Genisys)

Let's not forget, that according to Scott, there wasn't much to Alien 5 besides a few pages of a draft - not a complete script. So, my confidence in the project taking serious flight in the near future is slim, but I know that the studio has not thrown in the towel on Alien 5 and will likely still pursue it down the road. I just pray they align it more to what the Prometheus timeline has established and not go off on a completely new tangent.

These kinds of "What would you do" scenarios are always a lot of fun to partake in, great topic!

As for me personally, assuming we are aware of the Alien life cycle and what is to come following a Facehugger's attachment, I would likely find myself some pills and put myself to sleep. If no pills were present then I would probably have a harder time deciding on what to do. Are there any guns within reach? I personally could not choke / drown myself and I would not be prepared to stab myself - death would be slower that way than just letting the Alien do its thing.

The horrifying part of this scenario is, unlike portrayed in the movies, if one was to contract an Alien virus like this, upon "bursting", you would not die right away...

You would experience tremendous pain as your rib cage is exploded, but from what we've seen and X-Rays showing where the Chestburster resides, the heart and lungs would remain somewhat functional while the ordeal is taking place.

Also, the brain would be active for a while too. Unlike the Neomorph back-burster in Covenant, which would sever the spinal cord from the brain (which would be BETTER as you would lose feeling of what's going on almost instantly), the Chestburster rips through the rib cage which although extremely painful is not enough to kill you right away.

So, basically if one was to give birth to a Xenomorph in real life, you would probably convulse while the little guy clawing his way out, your adrenal system would go into overdrive, you would probably seizure and/or pass out. But if you manage to stay awake and your fight/flight response makes you attempt to survive the ordeal, you would experience unimaginable pain, followed by the trauma of bleeding out. You would probably be awake for a while while the Alien leaves your body, unless it cut any major arteries on the way out. Your death would be extremely painful and relatively slow.

So, I think suicide would be the quicker, less painful option. The difficult part is wrapping your head around actually committing to it and following through. I can't say that without a medically induced alternative, I would be capable of doing such a thing. Hard to say, but a good scenario to think about. I'm curious to see what everyone else says.

I dont think RS was meaning the Beast is quite cooked...

I think he is hinting that actually exploring the themes he wanted to do with a Prometheus sequel and give us something different but similar to Xenomorphs is where they should have gone... and that by cracking into Fans Demands and having to Spoon Feed Actual Xenomorphs had turned out to not be quite a good idea.

I think its the way they was handed..... i feel ultimately they should have changed the Plot for AC, to had removed the Xenomorph apart from the ONE...

They should have either had ONE infected Crew Member, that Walter/David sneaks on board and then they could have dealt with it in TWO Ways.

1) Have a extra 20 min run-time and have the Chest Busting happen on the Covenant and thus give us a longer screen time to ONE Xenomorph on board the Covenant, and have it kill a additional crew member on board in addition to the Shower Scene.

2) Have similar Run-time, but have the ending of Covenant be after Daniels is in Cryo-sleep, we see David walking off to the Music and goes to a Med-Room with Oram and we see Oram Chest Burst and David Smile.... Then Cut to Credits.

These Changes would set up more Xeno for the next flick and allowed AC to cover a bit more Prometheus themes, and allow us more Focus on the Neomorphs...

We needed 3 Neomorphs, and a additional 2 victims on the surface at the hands of them (not inc Hosts) i feel this would have worked better.

Its pretty much like Prometheus how few changes would have made that better... my abandoned Re-write would have had a more Xeno Fifield, it would have had a Neomorph kind of like Chest Burster (Babyhead coming from Milburn)  that would have then given us more Xeno Clues.... and connected that the Hammerpede acted like some kind of Face Hugger too.

BigDaveAlien: Romulus 2 NewsRidley Scott wants to 'replace' the Xenomorph in Alien: Covenant 2

They have written themselves into corner after corner i am afraid..

By the notion they changed the Prefix to Alien: and suggested a new Trilogy would link directly to Alien and bring back the Xenomorph and explain its Origins and eventually lead us to that Cargo on the Derelict they have now set down and gone down a path that introduces the Xeno Origins and will end up backing into Alien.

They cant do a U-Turn now, as the Plot has been laid down that Davids Creations will end up on that Derelict... and with David only having TWO Xeno Face Huggers, there has to be someway we eventually get to the THOUSANDS of Eggs on the Derelict.

But i think the Problem was not the Xenomorph, it was not quite cooked, it was how it was handled... if RS thinks the Xeno is the reason Alien Covenant disappointed then he is very WRONG and TOTALLY out of touch with the Franchise.

The Movie did not do well, for the reasons stated in my previous post, the movie tried to cover so many bases with such a limited run-time.

The Xenomorph look was not a problem, the CGI could have been better and Practical Effects used better, but the movie had a Tighter Budget.....    The Problems regarding the Xenomorph were.

*The Gestation/Growth Rate.. Especially Lopes encounter.

*The Chest Buster Design.

*The Limited Time the Xenomorph was on screen, especially how rushed the Scenes on the Covenant were.

*The Notion that David created it.

If all but the last one are dropped for the next movie, then having a ALIEN: Prefix and Especially if the name is AWAKENING, then its going to leave fans more disappointed as they would be expecting more Xeno Screen-time

Its been some Poor Writing to be honest and the set up as they way they ended the Movie, surely means we cant be given a movie that revolves around David and interactions with Daniels for like 45 min plus.

The Xenomorph has to be included to some degree.... i think RS comments are just that those who expected Alien Covenant to have a sequel that would show us more Xenomorph than AC had, would be disappointed as RS plans to explore other things but the Xenomorph no doubt will play a Role...  Its just if people expect some kind of Evolution as far as Screen time of Xenomorphs, like we got from Alien to Aliens.. then this is not what RS may have planned.

So it wont be NO Aliens kind of flick.... which is odd because the Aftermath seems to be set up for exactly that kind of Flick.

*David Fascinated with his Creations, which he claims will rule the Galaxy, while he has TWO embryos and acknowledges he requires Lambs for his Wolves and a Queen.  This sets up a objective to create as many of his Creations and Improve them.

*David has a dislike for Mankind, he even says he can not and will not let Mankind make a Fresh Start, this sets up that David will not be wanted to set up that Lovely New Life Colony for those remaining Colonists... Nope there will be his own Agenda behind this.

*It appears David will be off to Origae-6

*David has informed the company about his Creations, even as far as letting them know if they pursue it, then his Creations will rule the Galaxy.

This all to me sets up at some point, a incoming W-Y Ship or other Human Ship sent for their benefit, arriving at Origae-6 where no doubt David would have set up a Colony Pretend to be Walter, and then after the Colony is set up on at least a small scale. David will then play his Trump Card and Aim  to Subjugate the colonist to his rule...

No doubt at some point it sets up a Ship arriving to discover the remnants of a small colony partially set up, maybe with few survivors holding up against David.... and discovering a Area/Hive/Cave where a large number of Colonist are turned into Eggs.

Thats how it seems to logically set up and to be fair if done right this kind of flick will bring in the FAN BOYS and those casual fans who associate the Franchise with Xenomorphs...

Que.... a Engineer Ship incoming too, and it sets up the next movie after to be a Engineers vs Xenos, vs Rogue Company vs Helpless Colonist kind of a flick.....

Which if done right would lead us to a Engineer Ship ending up with the Cargo and heading towards LV-223 before crashing on LV-426

It makes Logical Sense, especially if these Engineers knew, or latter gain knowledge that LV-223 had been turned into a place to Safely Experiment on Xeno-Related Organisms... and if they view Davids Creation at more Perfect.

They could attempt to take some to LV-223 for further experiments but only get as far as LV-426... this is how i would kind of handle the Franchise.. but who knows what MESS FOX and Co will make of it.

This topic spans a few threads in the last few days and I cannot recall who said it. But although I love the xeno and am interested in the Engineers story and David's story arch, it seems what has been lacking since 2012 are human characters we can relate to, sympathize with and route for.

Maybe the best thing is a pipe dream- don't release a lot of press and viral trailers. Just give a couple vague trailers and drop the movie. The last two movies were picked apart and expectations were all over the map before they were released. I suppose my notion is from the perspective of a pre internet bygone era.

Looking at the pictures you posted again, I would have to say again that it's utilitarian architecture.  It's architecture, yet it's almost military-like.  Of course, I have no clue what the culture is like, so I guess it's hard to judge anything.

To me, this one feels like it has the most human character to it.  This is also one of the close shots you posted, so we get more differentiation.  To me, this feels like someone's garage and not just some military hangar.  To me, it feels like this could belong to somebody's house.  The trees nearby would have to relate to people in some way since they are in such a high-tech environment.  I would assume their use would be strictly for comforting people.  In this culture, I purpose, where you find trees, you will find people.  Guaranteed.  Still, I know nothing about Project 77's culture, but that is what I think after briefly studying the pictures.

 "Alien Franchise

Even with this year’s poorly received Alien: Covenant, the Alien franchise is a Fox property that, unadjusted for inflation, has taken $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office. While Disney doesn’t tend to put out this kind of R-rated content, preferring to generally dominate the more family-friendly space, this is a potentially lucrative cash cow. Disney has previously embraced and showcased the iconic status of the Alien franchise as it featured prominently in their Great Movie Ride, which opened in Disney Movie Studios park in Orlando, Florida in 1989 and closed in August 2017 - Disney knows the Alien IP has huge awareness and a strong heritage.

Planet of the Apes

Despite this summer’s criminally overlooked War for the Planet of the Apes, the Apes movie franchise has proved to be a lucrative one for Fox. Just looking at the origins/prequels, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes have taken $1.68 billion worldwide there is clearly an audience for the apocalyptic - a fourth film is being discussed. Would Disney want to invest in closing the narrative loop that would connect to Planet of the Apes? There’s good money to made if they wanted to and it would be a crying shame if that didn’t happen - it’s a damn good franchise and could be spun off as a TV entity or theme park attractions very easily too.

Predator

With the next installment in the Predator franchise hitting theaters on March 3, 2018, this sci-fi action franchise is clearly considered to be a still viable proposition at the box office. Unadjusted, Predator movies have taken $584.1 million at the worldwide box office including two Alien Vs. Predator entries - although maligned by critics, they are the two most globally lucrative. As with the Alien franchise, and Die Hard, it’s another that fits into the box marked “Disney doesn’t tend to put out this kind of R-rated content,” however, it could be another one that would see the Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures brands come out of retirement and ease a path to theaters. If Disney didn’t want to carry it on they could sell it on to someone who does. If the deal happened and FX was part of it, the small screen could turn out to be a great place to move the Predator franchise forward on more modest budgets."

Disney are keen on the Avatar franchise though
