With the disappointment of Alien: Covenant and Ridley Scotts comments alluding to maybe showcasing and going the Xenomorph route could have been the wrong route to take a Prometheus Sequel.

I thought it would be a nice time to bring up ALIEN 5, a movie idea by Niel Blomkamp that seemed to had gained interest during the period of a lack of News regarding a Prometheus Sequel during 2014.  It could be that the interest from the Fandom regarding Alien 5, and disappointment and complaints about Prometheus had brought about maybe a Change of Direction for FOX to give the Fans a more ALIEN Movie and could well have influenced the decision to make the Prequel Franchise now a ALIEN: Prequels rather than Promtheus sequels.

With Ridley Scotts latest comments regarding the Emphasis should be more on David and AI, rather than the Xenomorph, it could be a Alien: Covenant Sequel would be less Xenomorph Flick than Most fans would like?   Yet Alien 5 was set up to be a very much return to Xenomorph and Ripley..

However... the beast had been cooked, the Question is would ALIEN 5 had Cooked it more? or done it more Justice?  Would a Aliens Sequel that would take Alien 3 and Alien R out of Cannon had been a Good Idea?

Should they had made another movie and bring back Ripley? or even the more Iconic Xenomorphs that we saw throughout the Franchise, including Alien Covenants... or did we need something more different like the Deacon and Neomorphs?

Is the ALIEN Franchise about just the Xenomorph, and Ripley? or can further movies touch upon the other aspects such as the Company, AI and Androids and Themes that Prometheus laid out... and our Space Jockey/Engineers...   Or does the Franchise Need a Xenomorph and a Ripley?

I would like this Topic to discus, the above and look at what kind of a Flick Alien 5 seemed to be shaping up to be, and if it should be a Resurrected Project?

Or maybe a Project that can take some of the ideas presented in Blomkamps Alien 5?

In all honesty, I think Alien 5 would fall prey to the same fate as Covenant. Re-introducing familiar plot elements and monsters simply doesn't cut it anymore. Look at how many people are saying Prometheus was BETTER than Covenant and throughout many discussion forums, I'm seeing a lot of people more interested in the Engineer story arc than the Xeno's.

Assuming not much was to change with Blomkamp's Alien 5, we would have been given a nostalgia-driven fan service film, full of gimmicky salutes to the Cameron's Aliens. It would not hold water with the majority of both movie-goers and Alien fans in general.

The fandom is certainly divided right now, but from what I read, those complaining about the familiarity of Covenant and how boring it was or how predictable its plot played out are the same ones supporting Alien 5, which would essentially be the SAME thing, but instead of it being a nostalgia kick to 79's ALIEN, it would be the Covenant to ALIENS

Now, I have my own gripes with Covenant, and for the most part I agree with the critics on almost all of their points, unlike when Prometheus released - but I am NOT for regurgitating the same story over and over and although I adore Sigourney Weaver and would love to see Ripley kick ass in space again, I just can't bring myself to support a plot that would upset the entire fabric of this franchise's timeline just for the sake of showing a familiar face. That tactic didn't work out so well for the Terminator franchise, and I see Alien 5 being akin to Genisys more than anything to be honest.

The ONLY way I would get behind Alien 5 is if the story were altered so that it ran parallel to the Prometheus series so that:

Alien Covenant 2 would pursue the Engineer side of the franchise, exploring the expansion of the Alien universe for those Prometheus die-hards like myself

Alien 5 act as a Xenomorph / action thriller satisfaction for those longing for the familiar and the tried and true.

One gives us the expanse we're wondering about while the other gives us a narrow view of one aspect of this franchise, WHILE still remaining canon and connected to the events which unfold in the parallel Prometheus timeline.

The separation of the two timelines would cause confusion and upset the flow of where this franchise is headed. (ala Genisys)

Let's not forget, that according to Scott, there wasn't much to Alien 5 besides a few pages of a draft - not a complete script. So, my confidence in the project taking serious flight in the near future is slim, but I know that the studio has not thrown in the towel on Alien 5 and will likely still pursue it down the road. I just pray they align it more to what the Prometheus timeline has established and not go off on a completely new tangent.

Blomkamps Alien 5 seemed to have some interesting ideas, at the basis of it all it was a way to introduce Ripley back into the Franchise and bring back the Xenomorphs.... but it did have some fresh ideas.

Not much was known about the Plot, and it would be nice to eventually get more information and anyone who has any are welcome to share it here.

The Plot by Blomkamp was reported to be a Long 10 Page Synopsis more than any actual Draft, the Movie idea would have in effect been a ALTERNATIVE Sequel to ALIENS were it would have been set some 20-25 years after the events of ALIENS with Ripley and Hicks no doubt settling down to a peaceful future together with Newt... Miss Weaver said she felt Ripley deserved a Happy Ending.. but i dont think the Franchise requires Happy Endings.

So it appears some 20 plus years had past by, Newt would now be a grown Woman in her 30's Concept work seemed to show Newt in what looked like a Pilot Uniform.   But at some point in 20 plus years after the events of Aliens, some Company has indeed got its hands back on a Engineer Juggernaught or maybe even the Derelict itself.

The Plot seems to show that some Outpost/Facility had obtained a Engineer Juggernaught/Derelict, and this outpost had a very Oriental Feel to it....   And indeed Concept work shows us some Military Personnel who had a Korean Flag.

Some of the ideas shown are not just mearly a case of a Asian Company obtain a Engineer related Ship, as yes indeed the concept work shows they also obtain a Xenomorph Queen which they try to contain, but it gets lose...  But it also seemed to show that they was going to explore and introduce us to some other different forms of Xenomorph, from Different Eggs, Face Hugger and no doubt Adult Xenomorphs.

The Plot also seemed to show us prehaps a Hive set up, with what looks like a Egg Morph in Process, it appeared a Humanoid was being consumed and merged with a Hive like backdrop much like we saw in the deleted ALIEN Scene and so a Egg Morph was maybe going to be explored...  Ripley looks on in Horror at this.. whats interesting is the Humanoid being Egg Morphed does have a resemblance to BISHOP, surely not the Android from Alien?

Another interesting idea was we see Ripley wearing some kind of Engineer Suit, and so it looked like we may explore Engineer Technology and how Mankind can use this Technology.

I think ALIEN 5 had some interesting ideas.... i am not so sure about having to do a sequel that continues Ripleys Story, even though the Rumor was the movie would set up NEWT to become the New Central Character and Heroine of Future movies.

I do however believe the Plot as far as a company uncovering and obtaining a Engineer Ship, and then trying to experiment maybe on the Xenomorph/Black Goo or introduce us to variants of the Xenomorph (maybe Each ship had different Cargo or many Cargo Holds with different variants?)

I thought this was interesting... but also the concept of a Human using Engineer Technology (Ripley Space Jockey Suit) is something that would be interesting to explore.

I will leave you now with some Concepts and feel free to discus what you interpret from them and what the Plot could have been, and if you think this kind of Movie would have worked... or if these ideas could be used but maybe replace the Ripley/Hicks/Newt with new Characters.

Thanks for the reply Chris...

Indeed i was going to post my reply as part of the OT but it may have been long so i cut it into two parts...

So indeed as your reply states, my 2nd part was to touch upon things like you mentioned, which was that i feel ALIEN 5 had some good ideas, but i am not sure that going the whole Ripley route is a good idea.

I was worried when Ridley Scott mentioned about how Ripley was someones Child, which made me feel the sequel to Alien Covenant they would be trying to Spoon Feed a Ripley Family connection when i dont think its needed.

But i do think ALIEN 5 Plot was interesting one if we took these ideas and simply removed any Ripley connections... so a movie where in future a company discovers a Engineer Ship and tries to obtain it would be very interesting.

A movie that explore the Egg Morph, would explore applications or Engineer Technology (Reverse Engineering) and introduce us to alternative versions of the Xenomorph would for me be something interesting.

However bringing in a direct Aliens sequel, with Ripley, Newt and Hicks and Xenomorph Queens for me would only please the Fanboys.. but i feel its these things that could have changed the direction of any Prometheus 2 to become Alien Covenant.

I actually think they need to not change things laid down in other movies, and so No resurrection of Ripley,  and i think the same has to be said with Alien Covenant...    Alien Franchise Ripley was killed off, there is the potential for a Alien 5 as a direct sequel to Alien Resurrection but how could this be done?    Surely a Self healing Ripley 8 would not Age... but i had a explanation for how this could be done and was going to work on a ALIEN V: Vengeance  which would be somewhat like the FLY movie... in that the Xeno DNA Ripley 8 would start to revert back to Xeno DNA, where Ripley's Skin would start to shrivel up and decay much like SETH in the Fly, and as Seth slowly became the FLY, a Ripley 8 would slowly become more Xenomorph.

This would have allowed for a older Miss Weaver to play the role, and introduce something fresh and not have to worry about CGI to De-Age her.

Because for me the Franchise had killed Ripley off, and i dont think going for a Re-boot of any Aliens sequels would be the Good idea.. what happened in Alien 3 and Alien R should be considered Canon.

Just as with David now being the Xenomorph creator needs to stay, we cant have them U-Turn all over the place, we can just hope they get more creative with the WAY Davids Creations end up on a Engineer Ship and why this ship would be heading towards the LV-223/426 system.

it really depends on what they want to do. is alien 5 gna be an 'alien' movie, then fine id like to see it. where covenant fell was I think it was neither an 'alien' movie nor a Prometheus sequel. give us a clear understanding of what type of movie wer getting and it could do well

I would rather I have an alternate dimension of a true Prometheus sequel, moody and atmosphere with an highly original soundtractk and without Weyland-Yutani James Bond like conspiracies, without killer robots (explore AI when it meets things that they can not process), but ancient beings, terrifying in their strangeness. (Be they ancient giant pale humans).

I want see Alien 5 (or as I called it "true Alien 3").

Retcon is not bad, if franchise has slipped. And Alien truly has slipped on Alien 3.

You asked - Should they had made another movie and bring back Ripley?

Yes, if it will be a retcon, not AlienR sequel.

did we need something more different like the Deacon and Neomorphs?

Yes, we still don't see the Ultramorph. And I hope to see the earlier Giger's aliens with black eyes. How about praetorian?

Is the ALIEN Franchise about just the Xenomorph, and Ripley?

Xeno - yes, Ripley - no. I'm against of messiah complex or cult of personality. And it's all about Xeno, not Ripley or humans.

or can further movies touch upon the other aspects such as the Company, AI and Androids and Themes that Prometheus laid out... and our Space Jockey/Engineers...

Yes - AI, WY, androids, black goo, Engineers and much more things. But Xeno (and his species Neo- Ultra- other-morphs) is an Alpha and Omega of this universe.

I think. Need get still one movie with Ripley (Hicks and Newt) and pass the torch to Newt or other characters. But not Ripley's family - they not Skywalkers.

Have Cameron do a politically correct  Avatar-ish v5, where the Xeno is the protagonist...  :-) hehe

where the prequel trilogy is concerned, gimme the Prometheus/engineers story line with a pinch of monsters. but alien 5 should be an 'alien' film

I am not completely against Alien 5  I would not like to see A3 and AR erased.

I think it would be a great time to make a movie based on Alien Isolation.

Im not against Blomkamp doing Alien 5. I feel it would be more of a glitzy polished mainstream addition to the franchise, but he makes entertaining films. Agreed dk Id rather him to do it without the A3 and AR retcon.

That being said I feel Ridley Scott should be free to push the main body of the franchise.

My frustration at the moment is towards the endless second-guessing and reactive knee-jerking by the Execubots....That and Ridley's inconsistent rhetoric.

Seriously, just back your product and your creative vision.

The franchise will never go forward whilst trying to chase what viewers wanted 5 year ago. Its a viscous cycle of reaction. Be PROactive

I think that when the franchise continues after Ridley Scott is through with it, the best option is to nuke the site from orbit.

So, basically do the soft reboot that was/is reportedly being thrown around. Start a new trilogy/saga many years after Resurrection that can function away from the previous movies. Or, maybe build a new, exciting series of movies from the emotions/happenings of the other films, such as The Force Awakens or the upcoming Terminator (is rumored to be).

It's the only way to be sure.

I think that Ridley Scott has an interesting idea behind the exploration of AI, and it appears he wants to do something fresh.  But while Prometheus had set up to explore the Space Jockey more than the Xenomorph, and introduce us to the whole Story Arc regarding Ancient Alien and Creation kind of Mythos, of which some very good Philosophical Themes were being explored and a sequel could have touched on these more.   The Change of Direction to concentrate on and bring back the Xenomorph into the Franchise by adopting  the ALIEN: Prefix and having the Prequel Destination now set out to explore the Xenomorph Creation and Evolution eventually leading to HOW and  WHY and WHEN those Eggs end up on a Engineer Ship.....  They now would have to carry on through with this Plan, than to distance itself from the Xenomorph.

Ridley Scott and FOX have written themselves into this corner... yet it appears RS wishes to explore the AI and Philosophical and maybe Creation themes...

WHAT HE DOES NOT REALIZE IS....

There is a route to indeed explore these themes, as Prometheus/Alien Covenant was not the first movie to touch up these things.....   While Blomkamps ALIEN 5 was to perhaps eradiate the Sequels to ALIENS and thus ALIEN 5 would be a Alternative ALIEN 3, would it really had offered something NEW?  There was a few interesting ideas and concepts, but it would be hard to bring back a Ripley at the Age she is unless they movie was set some 25 years after ALIENS

However RIGHT in FRONT of Ridley Scotts Eyes is another ALIEN 5 that would be a Literal ALIEN 5 and would allow RS/FOX to explore those Creation, Religious, Philosophical themes and especially regarding AI and Rebellion.   BECAUSE we had ALIEN RESURECTION which gave us a back ground Plot regarding the Potential of what happens when Creation, Sub-Creates...  Ridley Scott is very interested in DAVID and especially the Theme of what happens when our own Creation, decides to Create for themselves... this Theme is the whole Big Reason for Ridley Scotts interest and pursuit in making David the Creator of the Xenomorph.....

However..... Alien Resurrection clearly shows us that indeed Mankinds Creations (Synthetics/Machines) indeed did Sub-Create  and this lead to the AUTONS, were we briefly get some back ground around a Great Uprising and Recall, and a Back Ground that informs us about how Synthetics are in the Future Shunned and potentially Mankind realizes the errors of our ways in our Sub-Creation...  Just as the Engineers had done so with Mankind and attempted to put an end to this 2000 years ago... Thus the starting point for the Xeno-Strain of Black Goo that ultimately leads to the Xenomorph.

So already we have the kind of AI Sub-creation Arc already within the Franchise, and the END of Alien Resurrection shows us a Earth that has gone through some kind of destruction and WAR, and indeed its Stark Warnings by those like Professor Steven Hawkings who warn that Mankinds Pursuit of Creating Advanced AI would One Day be our Undoing...  We see this Theme, in movies like The Terminator, The Matrix and the devastation on Earth in Alien Resurection shows us that indeed potentially the same has happened in the Alien Timeline..

So i feel that a TRUE sequel to the Franchise, a Literal ALIEN V can actually tackle the Themes RS is so desperate to touch upon with David and AI.  It appears the warnings RS had said about what happens when David Sub-creates and what this means for Mankind, are indeed evident by the Auton Rebellion, the Fact that Autons are Sub-Creations of Synthetics and the Chaos that had happened on Earth at this point in the Timeline.

There is a whole Story to be told regarding AI and its Evolution and Effects within the latter parts of the Alien Timeline,  and the Aftermath of such a Event...   Alien Resurrection regarding the Auton Call and her Background/Story is very similar to that of the Replicants in the Blade Runner Franchise.

THEREFORE.... i feel that there is a potential for a ALIEN V that would instead follow on from the end of Alien Resurrection,  Earth is clearly in a state of Destruction,  AI/Synthetics have had a large impact on Earth and Mankind,  Alien Resurrection shows us a True Distrust of Synthetics and yet we have Call who is not a Wicked Threat like David 8 is,  we see that the Autons and indeed likely other Synthetics indeed became Sentient, were able to think for themselves and see themselves as not merely Machines Created to Serve.   So the whole History behind the Autons and aftermath of Rebellion and the state that Earth is in regarding AI and Humans is something that could be explored..

But would a sequel to ALIEN RESURECTION not have to be about the ALIEN and RIPLEY?  Well YES, but not entirely, you see those comments about AI and the XENO that Ridley Scott had made regarding Alien Covenants sequel,  would certainly more so FIT and apply to a literal Alien 5,  But how do they bring back Ripley?  A Long time has passed since Alien Resurection?

While a Alien 5 Blomkamp Style, would in effect Replace Alien 3 and Alien R, by having Ripley, Hicks and Newt Survive,  the Age of those Actors etc, means a Aliens Alternative Sequel would have to be set 25+ years later,  due to the AGE of the Surviving Aliens Cast... unless they try to De-age Ripley which can be done with CGI and Ridley Scott explained this could be done, but if its not done right then it can look really poor and it is also expensive...

I propose and i have done this before, that a True Alien 5 set after Alien Resurrection could give us something FRESH and NEW and explore those THEMES that Ridley Scott is so desperate to explore.

But Ripley is  a Clone, she has Xenomorph DNA and can Regenerate and Heal Herself, so surely a Ripley 8 would never AGE so we would definitely have to use CGI to De-Age her?   Not really..  you see what kind of a Plot would it be to have a Immortal so to speak Ripley 8 going around fighting Xenomorphs, this is very limited and so there has to be a interesting way to explore Ripley 8 or is there?

YES.... Ripley 8 is a Hybrid she has Human DNA and Xenomorph DNA,  just as Seth Brundle from the  1986 Movie the FLY, was turned into a Hybrid, part Fly, part Human and yet he gained increased Senses and Strength and Abilities due to the FLY DNA, just as Ripley 8 had from the Xenomorph DNA

Seth however ultimately began to change into a FLY, the Flies DNA started to Re-write his Human DNA, his Skin started to Age, and Human Flesh and Parts Fall off, as he was slowly turning into a FLY Hybrid.  Where his FORM would be 50/50 Fly/Human and not just the appearance of a Human with abilities gained from the Flies DNA.

THIS is the Route they could explore Ripley 8,  it would explain away her AGE, as we gradually see her Human Skin, Determinate as she Evolves into a Hybrid, she could then be given CGI/Make up to make her appear as a Hybrid, maybe less than we see as far as say the HR Giger Inspired  SIL from the 1995 Movie Species.

This gives Ripley 8 a interesting ARC, and Make up can make her a Hybrid that still retains a lot of Human Appearance, but covers up a near 70 year old Human Appearance.

What about Call?  Well Winona Ryder is still very young looking, but she has lost her way due to some personal demons,  but the good thing is that there are some Actresses who look a lot like her, and even a Natalie Portman could play the role of Call.

What about a Plot?  I am working on a Synopsis for a ALIEN V: Vengeance it will cover those themes about AI and as we see Earth in the year 2386 has suffered a lot of destruction, the back ground for Alien Resurrection, shows us that AI has been shunned and Outlawed,  Earth has suffered what appears to be a Great War.    The Company  United Systems Military. Had tried to obtain the Xenomorph via Ripleys DNA and paid the consequences.

The USM Auriga Crashing on Earth, we can assume destroying the Xenomorph....  However Ripley 8 still has Xenomorph DNA, and what i propose is a World where there are different Factions a World In Turmoil regarding those who are Religious and hold out on Faith, compared to those who Ultimately have accepted the Revelation that our Creators are the Engineers.  We are no more to them as Synthetics are to us.

We have Remnants of Autons like Call and we have Remnants of Synthetics with a Agenda to Rule Supreme.  We have the USM Company who wish to obtain the Xenomorph.   And we could explore how a Cult of Synthetics or Synthetic Worshipers,  have the Agenda of once again Sub-Creating...    The Autons being a Failure, a attempt at Synthetics to Sub-create.   Yet this Cult, worships and is comprised of Some Synthetics.... who Worship the Original Synthetic Sub-Creator.... DAVID

They could even have a Mural made from a Deactivated David Model , attached to a Cross in Cruciform pose like Christ, and Worshiped, maybe this David is Alive but attached to some Bio-Mechanical Cross?  Maybe its DAVID 8?

The  Synthetics could be explored as becoming Sentient, and then wanting to destroy Mankind and replace us, and then Sub-create their own Servants the Autons.... this would fit with the back ground that was laid down in Alien Resurrection.   But this David 8 worshiping Cult, aspire to David 8 as the Original Synthetic, the Original Synthetic who realized he was not Create to Serve Mankind, but to Dominion over Mankind.   David also being the First Synthetic to Sub-create its own Favoured Creation.... THE XENOMORPH

So we could have this Cult go after Ripley 8 who is now becoming a True Hybrid, and this Cult wishes to use her DNA, to Create a New Army a New Race a New Sub creation,  that would retain the DNA of their Worshiped David 8’s Ultimate Creation the Xenomorph.

This allows us to Create something NEW,  Hybrids that are part Xeno/Human something Fresh.

I would even consider having Ripley 8 captured and becomes Pregnant, giving Birth to TWINS.. one being a Human BOY which could be Called ADAM and the other Child Shunned or maybe not, the other child a GIRL  a Hybrid called EVE.

This opens up a sequel to explore ADAM as a new hope for Mankind a Star-Child.... while EVE who would be like the Baby-Head Concepts for Prometheus would be in effect a Star-Beast, so a Sequel could be called Star-Beast and explore the Procreation of this Hybrid, which could introduce the Egg Morph to create Organisms that would be say 75% Xenomorph and 25% Human.

So it shows there is way to introduce something NEW to the Franchise, explore AI and give Ripley a Final Outing and Send Off.

With Disney buying Fox, Alien 5 suits the family friendly popcorn action flick Disney would produce.

An Alien 5 post-Resurrection incorporating the backstory of the Autons (AI's building AI's) with David's arc is a sublime idea!!

Thanks ;)

I was working on a Re-write of Prometheus, a Prometheus 2 and i had ideas for 3 more Alien movies... One which was set just after Alien, where a Mining company had set up on a Moon and a incoming Ship with new Equipment to Drill into a Rock that the current equipment could not get through, this revealed a Cave, with Spores and a Engineer Ship... it was to show case Aliens that was not far off the Neomorphs as far as how i thought they would look years ago... a cross between Neomorph and the Fresco Creature.... the idea being to tease that this place was where the Engineers discovered the Organism that leads to the Fresco, as they took infected crew back to LV-223 at a latter time..

The other was a Parallel movie to Alien R, where the Failed Ripley 7 Queen was taken with some Ripley 8 DNA to  USM Outpost near Saturn, where they cloned the Failed Queen 7 to produce something that was a Xeno/Human Hybrid, that had a different method of Procreation.  (similar to the Pred-Alien) this Outpost was a Military one where they was also working on Super Human Soldiers, and so we see a Xeno-type Organism Outbreak vs Super Humans  but Ultimately its a Super-Human Created from Ripley 8 DNA that saves the Day.

The other Alien one was regarding finding a Engineer Ship and Black Goo that escaped from LV-223, this one was more based with Engineers.

I have many ideas, that i evolve into a Long Plot/Synopsis and then i plan drafts for some Scenes, but never get to finish them... i had some sticking points with my Prometheus 2 so i abandoned it.

And then when working on others, i had started to suffer from some problems that effected my motivation etc.

I'm not against the idea of Alien V per se, but I'm dead against Blomkamp having anything to do with it. He made one great movie, District 9, but all his movies since look exactly the same! The novelty of District 9 wears off quite quickly.

I think I would want Scott to finish his prequels first (just one more). Let him do Alien: Awakening his way. Let him tell the story of David to the end and round off what happened before Alien. I think prequels are more tricky to make since they are forced to finally lead to a certain end (a connection to the original story). When this is done, the field is free to carry on with new adventures in the Alien Universe - like Blomkamp's Alien 5.

Even though both Prometheus and AC are disappointments I would rather not have Alien 5. Ripley is a good character but has been over-used. It is time to move on to something else, the Engineers seem interesting and their connection to the Xeno it is just that they need to change a few things from where they are now.

Expand the human role and make the engineers more important. Less AI please.

Maybe it wouldn't need to be in the official time-line. Maybe they could do a spin-off? Those kind of movies are not what I am a fan of in general but it could be done right so maybe. A spin-off wouldn't hurt if you look at where they are now in the franchise.

Just because Prometheus and AC were not that good doesn't mean that we need another movie about Xenos. Alien Covenant made it worse by implying that David was the creator of the Xeno, F that sh--.

Change the director while we are at it. All he cares for is this boring story about artificial intelligence. If they will be a part of the story (which I don't mind) they should be more in the background, keep the focus on the humans.

Taking AR out of cannon wouldn't be a problem to me but taking Alien 3 out would be so. Maybe Alien 5 could be a what if Alien 3 didn't happen. I would not have a problem with that if it is done well but I would not like to have it as a official versions/official events after Aliens since A3 is my favorite movie in the franchise.

You have many questions in your post BD, I will try to answer some of them as good as I can.

I am not interested in another Ripley story. Let the character be a new leading figure, at least the prequels did that right. We don't need a Ripley 2, we need a sympathetic character that we care for and that we worry about when things go bad for he or she. The main character could be a man, as long as it is well written I don't care if it is a male or a female. Even though Shaw was annoying at least she wasn't a Ripley clone, I give her that. Daniels wasn't as annoying but she felt kind of flat. My preferred character would be someone that isn't one-dimensional but that is somewhat rational and that we care for. Hell, the hero could be the garbage man at the ship, a chef or something, not a scientist or a soldier (that would be new).

Maybe they don't need pure Xenos but something related to it. I like that Prometheus and AC tried new monsters.

The Alien franchise isn't only about the Xenos and Ripley even though I think that the Xenos play a important role. Alien means unknown to me, so as long as there are sympathetic (and well-made) human characters that get into a situations that they are not well prepared for and there is tension and disaster it is good to me. My reason for putting that in Italics is because that is what the franchise is about in a nut-shell to me.

Of course it can be about other topics, it depends on how you deal with them and if you have sympathetic human characters in it. This is where I believe that it might be time to drop Ridley since he is mainly interested in AI.

The Engineers is something that could be interesting as long as they are well-written and have a clear connection to the Xenomorph. Unfortunately they were swept under the carpet in AC instead of being expanded on. I honestly believe that if they would have been made interesting in Prometheus they could have been explored more in AC than what became the case. More Engineers please, I would rather have that than having a story about a mad AI with a creator complex. Before AC I had ideas about an advanced society made up on interesting buildings that they were good at science, buildings/architecture. They had military structures, religious ceremonies like priests and so on. This would be really interesting if they would expand upon. Imagine a sci-fi with influences (not copies!) of the lord of the rings with specialized warriors, priest, scientists, and so on but it an Engineer kind of way. This could be really awesome, I would be more interested in that compared to the AI angle.

We have the Weyland-Yutani part, if the Empire in Star Wars could be done right then I guess that WY could be done justice too. It depends on how you portray it. Yes it is bad but is it in the background or the foreground of things? How much of foreground or background is it? Do they do their dirty business themselves or do they hire some sort of hit-men or what ever to call it to do their more shady things. Imagine if they are willing to do what ever they can do get their profits including murder. Assassins that kill opponents of the company. We have already seen the company being bad so why not add another angle to it? This could be interesting if it would be done right. Keep the Alien feeling but add a mix of the Empire or maybe the mafia family kind of structure in it. Maybe I am just babbling now but these are some ideas that at least I think could be interesting. Speaking of it I would watch a movie like this if it would be done right and have interesting plots and characters.

It feels like I have 100 ideas or so, it is just that I suck at structuring them.

Totally Agree Thoughts_Dreams excellent points.

We need Characters who can develop, their was potential to FIX Dr Shaw, but they wrote her off, and sadly the way they ended AC withDaniels knowing about David does not bold well for her, David can not let her awake and interact with the other Crew, as that would Spoil any plans David would have.  So they have written themselves into a corner.

And so it looks like they have to introduce us to new Characters who they can build upon which means they need to take part in TWO movies.  Are these Characters going to be Colonist in Cryo-sleep, or Humans on a incoming Ship?

I agree Characters need to be done more better.

So, let's just forget everything that's happened and get rid of that nasty but necessary feeling that things evolve?

Sorry, the 1980's are over, as well as all the TERMINATORs and PREDATORs and the sort. It was fun at the time, but, seriously, can't people just get over and move on? I was a teenager then, but not anymore - I know better now.

Seriouly?! Blomkamp and Ripley and Hicks and... Seriously?!

All good things come to an end, even Star Wars is looking tired.

I've no wish to see a 70year old Ripply running around a strange planet. Having said all this it'll be interesting to see how Predator rewrites itself.

before Scott kid napped and ruined the trajectory of his own franchise alien 5 momentum was building. After the horrific and polorizing last 2 prequel prequels it's time to answer the questions he promised to with Prometheus.  The terror and intrigue launched in the original alien needs to be pursued. Bring it

hardboiled is kind of right. Besides, no matter what comes down the pike, it will not likely be a huge money maker as the franchise history has shown and hard core fans will find ways to bitch about whatever comes next. Godzilla has an animated origins story coming next week and looks pretty good. Maybe the Alien franchise should stretch out a bit like some have suggested. Hmm. Maybe the Godzilla franchise isn't all worried about profits. It has eleven time lines and everything is pretty much canon. It has a history dating back to the 1960s to be conservative, and still has a huge fan base. Hmm...

No, I don't trust Blomkamp as a director and with all my love to Sigourney and Ripley it all looks like a kind of necrophilia.

Also I don't like that a plot disrespects Alien3 and Resurrection.

What I want to see - a true sequel to Prometheus which will expand the Universe of the franchise and won't use hackneyed cliches.

My vote is, after Ridley's next and hopefully final disappointing prequel to Alien, they should do an Alien 5 while the cast is still alive and then start a completely new trilogy with characters we care about and new strains of xeno's and a further exploration of the Engineers with much more Giger influence on the landscapes etc.

It's ageist to suggest that Sigourney Weaver cannot be an action star at her age. Ellen Ripley is, in my opinion, the greatest fictional character ever created. And Sigourney is, at minimum, 50% responsible for that.  Do I want more Ripley? Yes. Do I think Sigourney can still kick ass? Yes. Do I think Neill Blomkamp would make a fantastic ALIEN sequel? YES! He's a great filmmaker. He's gone on record that ALIENS is his favorite movie of all time. He's so desperate to make his ALIEN movie that he already got Sigourney to star in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjQ2t_yNHQs (Not to mention CHAPPIE!) I honestly don't understand why someone wouldn't want a new ALIEN sequel! RESURRECTION was horribly open-ended.

Some very interesting and Valid Points raised...

In favor of a Alien 5 i think personally the route Blomkamp was to take would have been a mistake, indeed it could still be pulled off but it would have to be about passing the Torch onto Newt, the movie would also have to be set some 25 years after Aliens if it was being worked on NOW... if a Alien 5 Project was Resurrected in 2-3 years then they have to take this into account when portraying the Age of Ripley and what year it would be set in.   Because while Miss Weaver may look good for her near 70 years, they would still have  trouble trying to portray to the Fans a Ripley aged more than 10 years what Miss Weaver is at the time of shooting and so looking at Blomkamps Concept Work this Ripley does not look the wrong side of 50 never mind in her 60's and so having a Miss Weaver pulling off a 45 year old Ripley would have been a push.

Also the Alien 5 concept by Blomkamp would have just given us the same thing we have seen over and over for the most part, and would also mean we have to view Alien 3 and Alien R in a different Light...

Why i think while Blomkamps Ideas had some Merit, i feel that some of these ideas could well be used in a Alien 5 but not as far as bringing back Ripley and not as far as bringing back the Traditional Aliens Queen.

What's wrong with bringing back the traditional Aliens queen? Its cannon. I would like both the queen and the egg morphing explored more in the forefront.

I think its a case of how do you do this justice?

If its handled wrong then it could back fire and cause the beast to be overcooked....

The Franchise is split, as far as Fanbase and some Fans would indeed love to see Xenomorphs and Queens and another movie that is like a Remake of Aliens, but its a case of if we go to the Well to many times it becomes Dry....

I feel a Alien Sequel aka Alien 5 has to try something different, i mean there has to be a SOLID Reason why after Alien 3 the Franchise had 200 year Gap with no Xenomorphs (but movies could fill in this gap) but we have to ask the BIG QUESTION...

Why go after Ripley in Alien 3?

Was the Derelict completely Destroyed?  we have to assume so, but then AC shows us Xenomorph Eggs exist on Planet 4 as part of Davids Experiments, and David is off to Origae-6 and from his TWO Face Hugger Embryos we must eventually arrive at Thousands of Eggs that end up on the Derelict.... so surely there could be Xenomorphs on Planet 4 and Origae-6

Indeed we can SAFELY Assume so now, but there has to be a Reason that the Companies only means to the Xenomorph is via Ripley and after she had Sacrificed herself to the Fire Pit.... the Xenomorph died with her... until Alien Resurrection where they resurrected if via Cloning Ripley (bit of a flawed Plot).   So i think as far as a Literal Sequel to Alien Resurrection it would be better to explore something different.

We have to assume, that by the time of Aliens the Derelict and those Eggs are all that remains of Davids Xenomorph for some Reason, and after the Destruction of the Derelict in Aliens with the Destruction of Hadleys Hope, the only route left was via a infected Ripley.  Thus the Xenomorph is GONE... but they could try and Re-clone Ripley from Ripley 8 DNA but this would be a copy of Alien Resurrection, or they could have it some Xenomorphs or DNA survived the destruction of the  USM Auriga.  But again why tread over something all ready done.

We cant have a Alien 5 with Xenos and Queens, and a Alien Prequels with Xenos and Queens unless its done Perfectly, and so far every Alien movie after Alien 3 has had a flawed approach....

HOWEVER......

We are shown the Xenomorph is a creation of David's  and so at some point, Davids Creation must Evolve to become more Bio-Mechanical and Multiply to become Thousands of Eggs, and so if the next few movies link to Alien then they have to at least in some way cover the Xenomorph.

A few Xenomorph Related Events that have to happen and potential holes that need covering are.

*Davids Creations must end in Thousands of Eggs on the Derelict (plus how a Queen could arise)

*David still has a number of Eggs on Planet 4

*David is off to Origae-6 the Advent Prologue suggesting he wishes to see his creation develop and his Wolves need Lambs (Colonist) and a Queen and so David must on Origae-6 create another Nest of Eggs.

These all leave avenues to be explored and introduce us to the Xenomorph if done right, and as far as any other sequel to the Original Franchise, or Parallel stories that do not involved the events between Alien Covenant and Alien Literally, must be avenues where we explore something different and not the Xenomorph.
