20th Century Fox blocked my original videos because I did not meet fair use requirements. I was forced to learn and apply visual effects filtering on my videos I Moon Girl. Thank you for asking and it should be live now.
Transformative Use
“Fair use is a legal doctrine that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed use of copyright-protected works in certain circumstances. Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses—such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research—as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use.
Additionally, “transformative” uses are more likely to be considered fair. Transformative uses are those that add something new, with a further purpose or different character, and do not substitute for the original use of the work.”
Transformative image filter processing was applied to all video images in this noncommercial, not for profit, Unofficial Music Video to support compliance for fair use.

Evolving the Universe is a theme heard in the videos. Since it seems Mr. Scott may have lost the passion, it makes a strong case to evolve the universe by allowing the franchise to branch into offshoot Netflix style shows. One might be action heavy with monsters while another might be more "cerebral" or philosophical. Different camps of the fan base could be pacified.
dk Exactly. He is not passionate about it and he is so stubborn!
He also had a lot on his plate and had to prioritize. He went with the studio's guidance with using the Alien more. It was a gamble that didn't seem to translate into expected profits. I enjoyed it and supported it anyway. Hopefully there will be a good script/story and Scott will be allowed to do what he wants. It is sounding like his heart may not be in it anymore.
Ati Nice to know someone else saw the similarities of the female and the derelict. I mentioned that before but thought it might be a stretch. Nice pointing out all those details- I have seen that picture many times but never made some of the connections pointed out here.
Dark Nebula Indeed, I have read about Goddess Nut inspiring Giger.
Yes, that mural was supposed to be in the derelict but they couldn't find a place for it so it was unused.
It seems that Giger used Egyptian Goddess Nut as an inspiration for the mural

Giger loved Egyptian art.

This is proof enough for me. haha...
That is odd, who even thinks about things like that?
Me!!!!
Cerulean Blue - You're welcome. I have to admit I know that fact because BigDave mentioned it some months ago in one of the threads.
Yes, Giger had wanted to place that mural in the ship, but Ridley rejected it because it would have revealed too much. The mural has two versions if I know correctly.
'The first version of Giger’s mural featured space explorer victims, with oxygen helmets…'

@Ati - Thank-you so much for pointing out the original mural! It was in the Derelict's egg silo! This is very interesting, as Giger once said the ships create the eggs, if I am not mistaken?
I feel like we should know more about the Engineers. I think the Engineers are a big question that nobody can even impose much of their own thoughts onto. Hopefully this would be answered in Alien:Awakening.
@ I Moon Girl - YES, YES, YES!!!!
Ingeniero - :)
Beyond doubt, she used her own face to help us create personal acupuncture point treatment plans.
Now, this is a stretch because I really really don't think the team for the next one(s) would go this route. Considering that the original Alien featured such an organic looking ship, what if the Engineers of Lv_223 managed to grow/build the ship around the eggs?
The video is now unavailable. Why?
Because of this video, I had this song stuck in my head at work yesterday. The chorus just kept playing over and over and over again in my head. Luckily I can listen to music at work....
because I put some headphones on with some Rob Zombie playing to drown out the Culture Club.
This is a very good topic since the prequels have so many questions to them and they allow the fans to interpret them with their own ideas. This could be considered a bad thing because the movie could be interpreted wrongly, but it could also be considered a good thing since it keeps interest in the movies. After watching the movies, it seems like it was done on purpose (probably to keep people interested in the movies). I would have to say this is something unique to the Alien franchise. It was kind of the same in the original Alien. We were learning of the creature as we watched the movie. Alien created tons of questions, yet I would have to say that the prequels by far pass any of the other 4 main Alien movies in terms of openendedness.
Ok, so my biggest question I wish was answered...
I feel like we should know more about the Engineers. I think the Engineers are a big question that nobody can even impose much of their own thoughts onto. Hopefully this would be answered in Alien:Awakening.
Another question I have is related to Androids + Emotions. The only reason we actually know Androids have emotions is from the marketing materials for Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. I don't know in any of the original four that androids were stated to actually have emotions. Mimicing emotions doesn't count either. I have gotten into multiple big debates over this topic. They always end with me taking my side and the other person taking there side. We both disagree with what the other says.
@ Gavin Also, I also safely assumed that the Engineers created mankind. Now, this idea NEEDS to be revisted in Alien: Awakening, even just for a brief minute, to confirm this assumption because as you say, we don't know as a solid fact. All we have is Shaw's idea of what the Engineers did and I think her thoughts on that are biased because she thought the Engineers created us before she landed on the planet.
Regardless who the Space Jockey is, the fans have had over 30 years to enjoy the complete mystery of Alien. Honestly, after seeing Alien a few times, it loses a lot of it's scariness and feeling because we all know what is going to happen. We all come to this forum to even talk about it and learn about it. We know that movie. Any reawakening of the franchise is a good thing since the original four happened so long ago. Otherwise, we, the fans, may just be the only people who keep rewatching the Alien series.
he believes himself to be perfect yet how can he be perfect when he was created by imperfect beings. he will lose in the end but I just think if the write into the movie that there r survivors from the covenant then that's pretty lame as even a moron couldn't lose from Davids position unless he lets some go. I feel they have to introduce more characters such as the marines sent to stop him to make it more believable.
I'd said that Foxbender was the only give something to do in the script, the others are only alien fodder, so how to expect anything from them.
David will mess up because he is just as an idiot as the Engineers and humans are. He thinks himself as Ozymandias? Really?
red0guy
I meant Fassbender stole the show in a performance manner. his performance was the best in the movie with Tennessee a close second but after that, the rest were average imo and the wrong person cast to play daniels.
the bit I don't get is those at fox believing that there would be a risk of people going to see AC if they stuck with the Prometheus path. they could have stuck with that path and added a few creatures and it would have been a bigger success imo. u don't need gore. there was no gore in alien and that movie is one of the greatest horrors of all time.
the only way to introduce new characters is to bring a military expedition into the mix, sent by the company to stop david. pretty much all the colonists r fkd as are Tennessee and Daniels. their asleep. how can David mess up from the position he is in? if given the choice for one to some how survive mine would be Tennesse but ur right, having either of them survive sucks
red0guy
totally agree. if that ends up happening then ill just disregard the prequel series except Prometheus. its lazy imo. the derelict scene would never be the same for me.
I hope that the answers are not that:
1. the big guy in the chair is David, 2. he created the eggs 3. he transported them as a weapon.
I mostly agree with your description, but:
1. Foxbender did not steal anything in AC, every thing was made around him, everything else was expandable. Life imitating art ...
2.How can you think that a more misanthropic and gorier (I dare to say only the AVPs and 3 were as mean spirited as this - all 3 movies widely loved) movie will be bring in more people and bigger revenues?
How could Awakening be good? There is no time to develop a new human character to care about... Maybe they will keep the wannabe Ripley alive or CGI-in the original, both options sucking.
Prometheus makes sense. RS himself stated his reasons for coming back and that was to answer the questions surrounding the space jokey and the connection to the eggs in the derelict. I, like most, was disappointed when the news came through he had changed his mind from direct prequel to it not being an 'alien' movie but I have to say he made the right call. hes right, the xeno has been done and it was time to explore more of the alien universe without being tied down to just the xeno itself. so we got Prometheus. for all its character flaws, it was an excellent jump off movie in a trilogy. it raised the questions for the following 2 movies to bring about the answers. many disliked it and fair enough but id put Prometheus up there with aliens and id watch it again.
I just cant say any of the same about AC. I was sooooo hyped for this movie after the endless possibilities and routes Prometheus opened up for it. then fox and/or RS listened to the haters and we got a film which imo is neither an 'alien' movie or a follow up to Prometheus. its a lets please the masses movie for me and it is the wrong call. they should have stuck with the Prometheus path. AC imo is the worst RS film. visually stunning as always, its full of too many holes and senseless plots that in some cases u even need to buy a book to fill in the gaps. characters badly written and no character building to some actors not right for their roles. I loved the neomorph and the protomorph designs but the human factor didn't live upto that level just like in Prometheus. david stole the show in both movies and unfortunately now its all about him which is such a cop out for me.
I rate Prometheus highly for many reasons but mainly for the path it was taking. it was original in the alien universe and is the first movie in the whole franchise to explore the expanded universe and not just the monster. AC is a film iv watched twice and that's enough tbh. for me, AC is, with the exception of the visuals and Fassbender, awful. so much potential wasted imo. shouldv been an epic but going by concept art coming out from people who worked on the movie its clear wer getting the cheap options. we sat through avp and avpr ffs and now we have to be sold short again.
hoping for the best from awakening, expecting nothing
the way I look at the space jockey scene in alien the eggs r laid AFTER the crash/landing. the hole in the flood created by acid suggested to me whatever burst from the pilot burned down through the floor yet RS said they were cargo. I would go with the idea the blue mist acted to preserve the eggs or sedate the hugger within during transport but after thousands of years there the effects wore off. it has a function as the only area with blue mist is the area with the eggs. the other storage pens looked empty to me which would explain why this was the only area with the mist as it may have been activated once the eggs had been placed there
where canon is concerned I believe its what is officially authorised by fox. for example. the weyland files on the blu ray disc set. now they r not included in the film but the fact that fox included these would suggest they are factual ingredients to the backstory so canon. but even this brings about some issues as the AC novelisation changes certain aspects of the movie so can it be considered canon? I would say directors cuts r canon especially the chamber scene in alien. u have to look at the reason behind its exclusion and when u see the directors cut its obvious they made the right choice but to me its still canon as fox have released it and it was the original concept for the creators of the franchise. this in no way means that the queen is out of place or shouldn't be there.
the main issues I have now is that fox and RS just don't seem to be sticking to one path and put it best, just seem to be making this stuff up as they go along. its all over the place just now. I don't need everything spelled out for me but I shouldn't have to go buy a book to fill in the gaps of a movie either.
the whole point of the prequels was to address the questions
who is the big guy in the chair?
why r the eggs there?
whats the connection between the big guy and the eggs?
though answers r coming, the manner in which their being delivered isn't as well done as expected. both movies have been torn to pieces by fans, tons of contradictions and plots that just don't make sense. but is it more us the fans that r making mountains out of mole hills? r we over analysing the movies to find a path to a possible conclusion that makes sense before wev seen the climax of the prequels? its clear to me that the engineers created mankind yet theres the discussion that a higher power is involved and that in actual fact they created both engineer and humans, yet theres no evidence within the 2 movies there is a higher power. don't get me wrong id love there to be but whats the point, we r never going to get to see them on screen just like we haven't gotten anything from the engineers onscreen except them getting killed and they were the whole bloody point of the prequels.
truth is that for whatever answers r within the 2 movies have been so badly presented so far their either missed or so loosely shown that their open to interpretation that even when they directly tie the franchise up there will be a large number of fans still scratching their heads asking the same questions imo.
Ingeniero Have you seen the movie "Europa Report"?
I recommend everybody in the forum to watch "Jodorowsky's Dune", a fascinating documentary about the failed attempt of the mexican director Alejandro Jodorowsky to direct an epic version of the novel "Dune". He put together a dream team that included Dan O'Bannon, HR Giger and Moebius, who actually worked together in Paris for about 6 months before the project fell appart. A huge volume of conceptual art was submitted to the studios, so impressive that ended up getting all these artists their next gig: "Alien". It is likely that if this man didn't have the crazy dream of making "Dune", "Alien' would have looked totally different.
Thank you for such a well written topic Gavin.
I agree with your takes on debatable concepts such as who the Engineers created, the age of the Space Jockey, and certainly what the mural on LV-223 communicates. Good summary on that.
Question for IRaptus:

Is this Daniels (after David had his way with her) facing Ripley?

Debbie Harry is Blondie...rock on Ati.
This is so interesting Ati and thank you for the multiple sources.
I think it is pretty amazing to have a moon in our solar system with a salt water ocean and they need to pick the pace on building a Bruce Willis robot to drill there.
Sadly, one of the worst album covers but still cool in some ways was for Steve Stevens. The first four strings are the same width and it is being played upside down- did HR phone this one in?

That is odd, who even thinks about things like that?
Someone is analyzing the movie a little bit too much I think.
I am just shaking my head
Genx:
So we disagree about that, I don't have a problem with the fact that we disagree about Shaw. To me it doesn't matter if that was an expression of humanity because humans can be a lot of things. Her traits of what is possible to find among human beings were not very good. Unfortunately she lacked common sense/was naive. She gained no sympathy from me, I just thought that she was stupid especially since she was supposed to be a scientist and they should be smarter than that. I honestly hoped that she would die for being so stupid. One of the good things about AC was they got rid of Shaw so good riddance. Yeah, I would still be very annoyed by a character like that if it would be a real life person I would probably think “please do mankind a favor and move to another planet (like some Idiotville or something)”.
She realized that she was wrong, good but she still was naive and stupid. These things did not change as far as I could see at least. Maybe she was still dumb as a character after the movie was over and if so she deserved what she got in AC.
Lawrence of Arabia
You can claim that the only one that mattered was Ripley and that everyone else were side characters never the less though I think that they did well with those characters and that they were a lot better than those in the prequels this far. They are still likable after all these years and feel like more interesting characters than most of those from Prometheus and AC combined. I could feel something and see myself in parts in the characters while most of the characters in the prequels are of the type that I can seldom see myself in them.
Exactly it was about the human story, not AI's. When they changed the focus to AI it became boring.
You said that they were not based on human characters in general (“anti-antropocentrism or misanthropic”, you wrote that) then you wrote about Ripley. They were still about the human story which makes them a lot better.
I don't care if it is about David, I find the focus on AI boring. I need well-done human characters to have an interest in movies like this. New movies and new perspectives can be good, it depends on how you do it. They have failed with the alien prequels this far because the focus on androids do not interest me.
The humans in Prometheus and Covenant are not fine, most of them are under-developed. I find the humans in Alien 1-3 to be alright but I can not accept it the way it is now when humans get pushed into the background in favor for a perspective which I don't find interesting (it could have been if they would have interesting human characters).
Alien 3, I disagree about that. Likable, maybe not but at least they were interesting. I liked Ripley and Clemens in A3 and found some of the prisoners interesting (the religious leader Dillon, and some more). Most of the characters in the alien prequels this far have not been good or interesting just “meh”.
“Even then these characters were barely fleshed out aside from a select few.”
At least they were made interesting enough to feel something for them. The Alien prequels have failed with that this far and to me it doesn't matter if it is supposed to be David's story, I just find it to be a disappointment.
“Please, open your mind just a tad to new experiences because that is what Ridley is doing instead of retreading.”
I have tried, I have thought about the movies (Alien prequels) and they are still disappointments to me.
Both of them are disappointments but in different ways. Prometheus had too many underdeveloped characters and some of them were really annoying (Vickers, Fifield, Milburn, Shaw's boyfriend). I don't have a problem with the lack of Xenos although the monsters could have been better. The Hammerpede, the squid, and the Deacon were alright. The Engineer was alright but could have had a bit more of a background. Prometheus gets a 2 out of 5 from me.
Alien Covenant had parts that I liked. Visually it was good, but so was Prometheus. As far as I can see there is not much CGI in AC and Prometheus, which is a good thing. They look much different compared to the Star Wars prequels if I say so. Unfortunately it had too many underdeveloped characters but they were at least not as annoying as in Prometheus so that was a plus. Scott or who ever decided to focus on AI which was a bad thing, I don't like how they developed David, he was more gray and interesting in Prometheus but he was not a disaster. David and Walter were given too much screen time which I didn't like that much since I am more interested in the humans and what they go through.
Solidus, I like how you put it like Prometheus was a half good and half bad movie, that is how I look at it. The movie is very mixed in that way. As far as life and existence well for that to work you got to have well done human characters otherwise it will be underwhelming, this is what Prometheus turned into.
“I mean they said, that was why Prometheus failed because it showed just a short scene of xenomorph or it lacked gore or some writing fluke therein...”
Maybe they said it but I think that they might have misunderstood it. My problem with Prometheus at least was that it had too many dumb or boring characters. It was only David and Janek that I found to be alright. Actually I have a lot more sympathy for Janek than for anyone else on that ship. While a lot of other people went on about their semi-weird ideas he was more down to earth, I like that. Unfortunately they had too little of Janek and too much from the annoying scientists. Partially it was bad writing and partially bad editing. There are cut scenes from Prometheus that would have made it better of they were left in for example they find a small worm before they find the Hammerpede and the worm is fine. Small things like that should have been left in that explains the characters more and make them more sympathetic.
Some people might say, oh the prequels are about androids. I don't care, give me good human characters that I can feel something for or else it is a bad movie.
Interesting, that both Cerulean Blue and Lawrence of Arabia believe that the Engineers created humankind, when at best I would say it is open to debate, despite my own opinions that they did not (with supporting evidence in both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant).
@Gavin - I think the ambiguity is the beauty of Prometheus & Alien Covenant. I love how Sir Ridley allows us to 'choose' what we believe to be true, in most instances. I am of the opinion I have not yet gotten any definitive answers regarding anything. That is why I am here & love hearing the alternative ideas. Honestly, I am personally always an Engineer fan, so I want to get more of the story in regard to their specific relationship with humanity. I am really hoping we will, soon. Thanks again for your post!
What about the blue light though? It seemed to be a barrier between the atmosphere and the eggs. So it looks like that's what it's purpose is, unless it's just there to keep ANYTHING being transported separated from atmosphere. Then again, with so many different possible storage areas, maybe the blue light was only working on one of the storage areas.
The speed at which a safe can be opened is usually determined by how the safe is unlocked. Gun safes typically use one of four means for unlocking and opening: lock and key, push button combination, radial dial combination, or biometric technology.
