Do trailers show footage from the finale of their films, of course they do - Fassbender wearing "the" helmet in xmen first class, the lead factory finale of Alien 3, the Ripley vs Queen in Aliens, the Alien getting up aboard the Narcissus in Alien, a battered Arnie on a cog shooting the grenade launcher from T2 etc. etc.
I'll elaborate what I said before - Ridley Scott has stated that Prometheus, while being set in the same universe is not directly related to Alien and the story of Prometheus heads in a whole other direction, he later added, very clearly at Comic-Con that the only link to Alien will be in the final 8 minutes of the film - Derelict is from Alien, there is your link.

No i wont be disappointed if an Alien appears in Prometheus, I just think the likelyhood is low, thats all.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
But the derilict is where the creature from alien is from (i'm also getting tired of saying Xenomorph....it sounds tacky)....anyhoo...I hope it is not just the derelict ship that ties in with Alien....hopefully their will be more....but whatever this movie is about...i will see it and I think I will very much enjoy it....tho I am just gonna pretend that I am not at all familiar with the alien franchise.....if it is gonna succeed then it has to work on it's own....so that someone whom is not even mildly interested in the alien franchise or whom has never even seen any of those movies will still enjoy the story and movie..etc.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
exactly my thinking - Alien fans would go "oh its the same ship as in Alien", whereas none Alien fans would go "oh look a crashing ship".
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
it's such a riddle tho...trying to piece together all these little bits of visuals and all the stuff ridley has said and the trailer and.....omg!....we all got an idea what it is about....but I don't wanne set the bar to high.....i don't wanne get disappointed once i see this movie...to much anticipation can do that...sadly!
@ Snorkelbottom
yip...u know what I am getting at!
ReplyHudson25Prometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
@Snorkelbottom-Maybe they should add this additional tag line to the Prometheus Movie poster. "You Should Really See Alien before You See this!" That should make the non-Alien fans appreciate it more. lol

I'm just saying come on what is this our space jockey's brother in law's ride and we care about him why? Even if his brother in law was the real brains of the family and made us humans I don't care. I care about the actual space jockey and his ship and to hell with his in laws and their hoopties. His ship was a custom job as he is.... I hope.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
Reverse you logic and you get the marketing idea of fox...
Joe sees Prometheus, wonders what happens to the ship and watches Alien.
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
The 'Prometheus" crashes into the Alien ship as we see, there are parts of the Prometheus in the ground as we see Theron and rapace running...
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
i think the only marketing idea beyond that is "we get ridley scott returning to sci fi "
i think that what we want is Prometheus to be an equally good experience like Alien ( prequel or not ) ..what we dont want is Prometheus ruining our alien experience ( like some sequels have done ) because is clear that if this movie show that there is something "human" inside the SJs suit many of us will throw up in the theatres .
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
lol, so lets hope the feeling we are all getting is wrong, otherwise all cinema's will need barf bags in six months lol.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
wel we already survived the
"head driving a spaceship "
" giant animatrotic talking head"
we will survive the "paris hilton inside the suit" thing ...
Replydb73Prometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
Concerned about the bald humanoid in the space jockey room. To me that points to this thing being the pilot.
Also intriqued by the saucer shaped thing above the waterfall. What is that?!
Who's the bald dude in the wheel chair in the scene with woman collapsing in door way?
Space jockey head/helmet on the operating table? Looks to me like we're not getting space jockey but space jockey suit ..... With big bald guy wearing it. Bah!!! :-(
ReplyTromatizerPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
I just read an interview with Scott where he states that the Alien it's self will NOT be in the film, feeling it has become too commercialized and lost it's scare. And honestly, judging by the SJ head on the table and the fact that this seems to take place on LV426, and that the derelict appears to be a derelict even during this film, there's a good chance we may never see a living SJ or alien at all, and the antagonists are the very crew that was sent there, possibly infected by some sort of virus or something that rewires DNA...
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
"Trom"
They all know
Just FYI
We've already discussed that issue several times.
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumFirst analysis of the trailerDec 22, 2011
Ok, this movie is obviously going to be a technical and narrative milestone. Maybe something like the new "Space Odyssey"...
But at this state of information (or speculation) it already gets me disappointed. What i expected was another dark horror movie. An exploration of an unbelievably strange alien race which mystery we can hardly understand.
What do we have at this point:
- attractive people
- green goo
- jumping mutant with mohawk haircut
- sharp looking ironed and highly fashionable spacesuits
- mysterious space jockey turns out to be Mr. Clean or Vin Diesel
- sexy bed scene
- Computer Game Graphics
seems like another "Star Trek" to me...
Please don´t take this to serious. I am going over the top and actually we don´t know anything seriously yet. The trailer looks awesome and of course I cannot expect a second ALIEN. I´m going to like that movie full of trust in the work of the creator of ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER.
But it still remains that I expected it to be the next level of sinister horror movies instead of epic poetry.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumLV-426 loss of magnetic field.Dec 22, 2011
watching the trailer ive an idea that they dont suspect that inside the ampule roome there is breathable air ..there are different shoots inside the ampule room some with helmets and some not .
The guy that is hit from the acid ( if its the same incident ) is show first with helmet and then without ...while outside and with the hangar open they have always the helmets ..also the sand storm seems to arrive by surprise .
the only doubt ive is that the ones without helmets in the ampule rooms are only for magazines .
So my final assumption is that inside the ampule room there is not only the face of man but also his breathable air ( and dna )
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumLV-426 loss of magnetic field.Dec 22, 2011
thus, the ampule room was intended for us
ReplyXenotronPrometheus ForumLV-426 loss of magnetic field.Dec 22, 2011
Yes, maybe. What does that imply?
ReplyXenotronPrometheus ForumLV-426 loss of magnetic field.Dec 22, 2011
What if the explanation were more simple than going into theories about the planet?
What if the room with the head was a closed environment on board a ship with life support systems?
What if the ship when it crashed--as seen in Alien when the crew has their helmets on--had it's hull compromised, which depressurized the air, thus causing a need for helmets?
Your magnetic field theory is plausible, but I think there's a simpler explanation for it.
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumLV-426 loss of magnetic field.Dec 22, 2011
The large dude I assume is the engineer or jockey isn't wearing a helmet. There could be a lot of explanations here. When they first enter the room they don't realise there are breathable conditions.
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumLV-426 loss of magnetic field.Dec 22, 2011
Or maybe the closer they get to the ship or ampule room, assuming one are same, the better the atmospheric conditions are. Which would lead me to question. Is the jockey in the midst of developing a new earth only to have it's plans inadvertently wreaked by man?
ReplyXenotronPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
If this is true, then you've just presented the greatest piece of evidence that there's no xenomorphs in this movie.
Congratulations.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
huh why ?
yes the guy seems very tall in confront of the alien set ..... btw the trasmitter in not yet totally out ( and maybe some part of the floor rise at the end )
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
I don't think all of the floor features have risen or dropped yet. It seems too similar not to be the same ship. What will disappoint me most is if there is more than one derelict. I want it to be unique.
ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
I think the rooms are different.
- Each wall is differently textured
- The details on the chair are ever-so-slightly different (study them closely)
- The wall in ALIEN has a vertical curve and bulky borders, the one in Prometheus has both a vertical and horizontal curve, and no bulky borders borders,
ReplyXenotronPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
It certainly looks similar, but slightly different.
Maybe the film makers don't really care for continuity and just wanted to update the look of the chair?
There doesn't have to be some deep meaning behind everything. It is just a movie after all.
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
So hmm it is the room 60 years before we see it in Alien right? Weird stuff grows everywhere in that time : )
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
Artistic licence - update the look while remaining 90-95% faithful.
ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
@Xenotron I'm not claiming there has to be, I'm simply discussing a few ideas.
I don't think it is artistic license.
I used to watch Mythbusters all the time, and Adam Savage would always talk about his ability (while working in prop making/visual fx) to re-create carbon copies of sets, props and costumes when working from snapshot images and bits of video.
If they wanted to re-create the SJ set perfectly they could do it, I think this is a different ship OR at least another room in the ship.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
thats my other thought, another part of the ship
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
I prefer the original chair and room....more alien looking craftsmanship...but the new one looks decent enough....that dude on the right looks like a bouncer at the local club...lol
I was just thinking that perhaps he is just another character....not part of the main cast....just someone whom accidentally triggered something that makes the chair come rising out of the floor....just a thought tho?
ReplyXenotronPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
Yes, true, true.
But that's only if they wanted to make a carbon copy of the chamber in Alien. That's assuming that they do want to make a copy. But then, maybe it is a different part of the same ship, or a different ship altogether? We really don't know.
Maybe the guys with the money didn't want to make a huge set like they did in Alien because it would be too expensive so they made one that was easier to build? It is, again, a movie, and the point of a movie is to make money.
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
I think it is the same hip but Scott had more money this time around and better technology to do more with it unlike then...
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
Consider the ships to be in to different stages. One still in flight mode after crash landing. Gear is up. The other parked up and preparing for flight. Gear down. That's how I would explain the differences.
ReplyNot_my_intentionPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
not really important but when it is unfolding up through the floor is that a part of the set or CGI? because unlike most cgi this one looks kind of real, like the rest of the set, like i said its not really important but i just wanted to know because if that is a hydraulic set then that is really impressive.
ReplyNot_my_intentionPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
also what we see in alien is defiantly a suit and the one we see on the chair is fused to the chair, if you look at the picture above you can see what looks like the head of the space jockey from alien split open, suggesting that it is split open, the space jockey slips inside, then it closes. just a theory but that's what i see up there.
ReplyDrexlspiveyPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 22, 2011
There also appears to be external damage to the ship in the trailer compared to the derelict in Alien.
However, this may be a meaningless observation as the ship may very well be a living organism that has regenerative and or growing capability.
Thus I doubt we will be able to conclude whether they are the same spacecraft until the we view the movie, unless someone comes across a picture a the deceased SJ with a damaged chest wall sitting in the chair in a still from the upcoming movie.
