I could be way off but it would be easy to see why such a thing would be cut form future releases of the script/film." also the question was what does it say to Ripley ?

I think i have the 1st and 2nd answers, 1- it was the first title to be revealed bit by bit. and 2 - They used a dog behind a screen, removing it at the right time to make the cat hiss.

the dog was a german shepperd and that one is correct. The opening including the credits contained no dialogue for 6 minutes and I believe this is a record.

wow that's funny, I went to the premier in NYC of that film, and I did not even think about that, I think you might just be correct, but other than that film, Alien's opening was the only SCI-FI one I have seen that went on that long with nothing spoken. In Brina Depalmas "Dressed To Kill" for instance which is not SCI-FI but rather Horror /Drama there was an 8 minutes scene in the NYC Museum of Art with no dialogue which is a remarkable scene. There is even a camera Pan at the end of it and if you stop it in the middle you can see who the murderer is. If you watch it right through it is hardly noticeable

The 8th crew member is obviously the Alien. Star beast is a pretty naff name for a movie unless one of those cheap B movies made in the 70's or 80's. Scott has class, integrity and a reputation for making top class movies. I get the impression there aint gonna be a star beast cavorting around on the screen. If something does appear it will be in the last minute with a rake of questions left unanswered.

Yes I reckon Vickers will be a central figure. See seams to be getting a lot of press. Mind you see is the only real celeb in the movie. Is she the company person? Is she an Android, and is she good or evil? Lots of questions. There is a shot of a woman in the trailer falling to her knees on entering the ship. Isa this Vickers and is she suffering from some sort of transformation

Remember that vickers should not have been a central character .. she said they "expanded" her personality from being a simple "suit" ...so i dont think she is a central figure . ... and i think ridley use her as a bait ...in Alien the fact you didnt exactly know who was the central character worked perfectly ( the most famous actor was tom skerrit ) and i think he will want to play that game once more . There is little talk for example of two quite important actors like Pearce and Elba . btw until now we can assume that Noomi is the central character along Fassbender .

Yes Brego, I am afraid you are correct. I was reading before I left for work today, and I read that the passage you speak of. It broke my heart a bit, and i kinda understood how a scientist must feel once one of his discoveries is discredited. Kain does infact say to Dallas that there were thousands of his urns down there that are leathery and look alive. I was going to scan and upload it when I got home. But looks like I don't have too! But still it seemed at the time an amazing discovery, but it was neat how it got us all thinking.

just my 2 cents,what if the Alien we see in Prometheus is a totally organic species looking somewhat like the one in Alien,but in Prometheus the "alien" facehugger impregnates the android and we get the bio-mechanical Alien we are used to seeing since the Alien takes on features of the host.

Dammit.. did it again.. post cleared while i was editing.. hang on.. Right.. My speculation on the matter would be that face hugger is the base form of the species. The established canon is that the adult Xeno takes on the physical characteristics of the Host. If i was asked to offer an explanation i would say this. We know the Face hugger is arguably the longest lived of the stages due to the life support and protection apparatus of the egg which "activates" when a potential host is near, possibly inferring that the face hugger isn't designed to last long enough for adverse environmental factors to affect it, that resistance to environment comes from the inheritance of the evolved (from the environment of what every planet) characteristics of the host to the gestating xeno. This of course is based on the alien being a bioengineered weapon. which it may not be The upshot of which is that there is no "Base form" adult xeno, only facehuggers.
