The god Prometheus created man and stole fire from the god Zeus. He gave fire to man to make man equal to a god. Zeus severly punished Prometheus Ridley Scott says (paraphrased) ‘The Company's ship, Prometheus, travels light years into deep space as a challange to the gods’. In the movie, do you think the fire stolen by Prometheus will be the Aliens knowledge of teraforming or is that too literal? Was the derelict ship on it's way to punish earth for the events of the Prometheus voyage, and was the company looking for it? .........all priorities recinded! Also, the android in Prometheus will be technology 30 years pre-Ash. Twitchy!

Hey Astro good idea. Prometheus was actually a Titan in Greek Mythology, he is also known as Loki in Norse Mythology. To me if you read Loki's description (via wiki) your thoughts go straight to the alien with its ability to incorporate its host DNA with its own and shift its shape (to a degree) to that similar of its host. I think the corporation stole the Alien DNA code not knowing what they really had in our midst. But then again it could be the terraforming code as well because it Aliens Burke mentions the company has been doing a lot of terraforming. Then again it could be some sort of DNA code that allows the Alien and thus some sort of organic apparatus that converts atmosphere into oxygen/nitrogen. Recall that the facehugger kept Kane alive while his helmet was breached to LV-426's atmosphere.

I'll check out Loki Rick. Knowing Ridley sees this as a stand alone film, part of a grand mythology with strands of Alien dna in it, I think stealing a technology is not grand enough. The space jockey race surely knows much more than just terraforming. All the stops will be pulled out, 250mil, and it will be glorious. I cant wait to see Prometheus then go home and watch Alien.

I was just thinking the same thing Astro, ha. I am also looking forward to Prometheus, there is no doubt in my mind that it will be one of the best sci fi films to hit the big screen in a long time. With Ridley Scott back int he director chair, and with a killer cast lined up, you can expect Prometheus will be the "be all, end all" film of the year... and possibly for many years to come.

I think we might want to talk about the only aliens we know that will be in the movie predominantly, the space jockey species. This movie is not about the xenomorphs, though they will probably be in it. It's about the species that created them and probably us. Fassbender said the action (probably xenomorphs - I think) takes place in the final third of the movie. The first two thirds slowly builds fear tension including politics amongst the crew. It's a good video interview by mtv.

No Necronome Temple Secrets, it's called a rewrite, and a great one at that. Look at all the mystery and suspense the one space jockey has created. Ridley showed just enough to create that. It's not how much you see, it's what you don't see cowboy.

the concept art pic of a space jockey standing, clothed/armored tells you just a bit, but invites us to fill in the blanks. Thats what an artist does, pulls you into the art.

Ruhaniya, all very interesting, really, but all of that, the concepts, the speculation, the mythology are all created by us to explain what we don't understand, like the space jockey. Actually his essence is styrafoam and paint assembled by an artist.

Humans created mythology to explain what we don't understand. Some of these posts are factual and some are mythology, and all very interesting. Imagine, we have a year to wait for this thing.

I feel that this whole business of the Space Jockey or its race being “gods” or progenitors of the human race (if that is the case) in the PROMETHEUS film is a proverbial “slap in the face” to folks who do believe in God. According to Wikipedia, 2.5% of the world’s population are atheists. Therefore, this concept “flys in face” of 97.5% of the populations more traditional perspectives of creation, and the origin of our species. Why would Ridley Scott and company make such a bold and potentially offensive faux pas as a plot point? My only guess, is that they just don’t care. Sir Ridley is not beyond tweaking his films and history to push his own anti-religious agendas. This is quite evident if you’ve ever seen Scott’s ROBIN HOOD, KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, 1492: CONQUEST OF PARADISE, etc. By the way, I'm a serious fan of Ridley Scotts work...most of it any way...especially ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, and GLADIATOR. Now I don’t mean to be all “preachy”, but I just think its ill advised for the filmmakers to potentially insult the bulk of their audience…that’s “asses in seats”…that’s money! Obviously, a good artist is bound to be revolutionary at times…I just think that he should also be respectful of the viewers perspectives. Remember how most of us felt when Newt and Hicks were killed off before the opening credits of ALIEN 3 had even finished? Geeeez…That was just straight out “disrespectful”. In the end…its only a movie, but ALIEN and ALIENS were two great ones! I just hope that I will be able to glean some of the same fun, scares and fascination from PROMETHEUS, that I did from those first two films…especially the great original. ~Neurion

Hey Rick, Thanks for the tip, that was an excellent interview...although very cryptic. At least it was from the "horses mouth"...and he was'nt sayin' "Jack squat" about the actual storyline. That's pretty much what I suspected. So, most...or virtually all of the internet traffic and squabbling about the plot is a bunch of subjective hooey! Right? ~Neurion

Yeah pretty much. Its cryptic but you need to read between the lines and what he doesn't say speaks volumes more than what he does say. Like No facehuggers, no humanized alien, only about the Space Jockey and will answer many questions that we have had about the alien for 30 years.

A wink and a smile, thats mind control isn't it? I read 1/4 of the Alien Harvest script, including that sex scene. Just boring. Now "Shadow 19" wow! It has a terraforming ship named Prometheus thats transforming another planet because Earth has about had it. It has ramped up coloniel marine action and I mean ramped up.

Wasn't called for. Sorry. A ship accident on board maybe. That could happen. I agree Rick. Fear of the face hugger/xenomorph is a given. If they are in there, it will probably be late in the movie. This will do what 2001 didn't do. This will show us our creator/god (van daniken). Then, humans will steal gods fire, and the game is on.

Right, now there was a rumor that there would be sequels to Prometheus that would take the genre in a whole new direction that I think would be awesome as long as it doesn't delude our harbingers of death anymore than they have been with the crap sequels. I think after Aliens it took the downward spiral into the crapper. I mean how did the spindly queen bring multiple eggs up to the Sulaco when she was coming down the hall empty handed? I know it was meant as a joke but really?

Regarding Van Daniken. You guys should dig into the late Zecharia Sitchin's work with the Earth Chronicles series of books. I have them all and its several thousands of pages worth of reading on alternative human history and might shed some light on the movie if Prometheus does take a Van Daniken spin on it. I heard there will be sequels to Prometheus that takes the genre in a whole new direction from where it has gone. This I think will be fascinating as long as our "harbingers of death" don't get deluded anymore.

Personally. I am very glad that they have decided to include the Space Jockey in the film. I mean, its what every fan has been anticipating for for like 30 years since the original film. As far as physical appearance, I hope they are large (as far as the rumors/news has put out so far) in a range from 8 to 15 feet in height. Mass? Enough to proportionately accomadate that height. Coloration... I guess we will have to see, but since Giger is involved in the designs i'm sure it will not disappoint. The look will probbaly be memorable and something new in the Alien canon. I would prefer them to be a "hostile" species bent on conquest. They may not attack/kill humans outright, but their intentions are to dominate humanity through their terraforming and unleashing the xenos as a way to erradicate the human race. But, they would definitely be superior in brute strength to a human. I feel the comic Aliens:Apocalypse the Destroying Angels was a basis for the ideas of Prometheus and if you read the comic. you will definitely see the strong ties to this fim. It even features the "larger xenomorph types" that this film will have (with exceptions of course) . I guess I see the Space Jockey as a conqueror type of species with superior intellignece and something that should have a mysterious aura about it. I would say they "do not" come in peace since they want to terraform the galaxy using the xenomorph as an extermination tool.

With no chest bursters we won't be dealing with an infected situarion (eggs). So, the leaked(?) outline makes sense. Artifacts & coordinates discovered. Travel to meet our makers. Wear out our welcome by stealing teraforming source code. Humans are attacked, escape but are pursued. Wouldn't it be inteesting if the pursuit ship is the derelict ship, fron Alien, filled with pods for earth, the Space jockey's ungratful children's home. If we really did escape, where is the source code? Area 51 I guess.

They did mention the new creatures would have a sexual characteristic. Perhaps the method of infection is more akin to the AVP2 method where the embryos were implanted via a massive face hug from the Predalien itself. It should be very interesting to see, and I personally can't wait for the new shift. So long as the stick to the creature I grew up fearing in principle, I'm hoping it will be an improvement. If it looks ridiculous, then it won't be a horror movie but an action one. Either way I'll be pleased, but I'm really hoping to capture that sense of fear I got from Alien and Alien 3 (Aliens was an action movie). Stealthy, cruel, cunning, cold and calculated. No more cannon fodder alien swarms please. I want to see them using their greatest advantages, darkness and fear, against people and the other race. Something that brings the horror back into this series.

Hey guys that plot isn't the actual plot, a Fox Rep shot it down. From watching the interview what I took away from it was the focus of the movie won't be about the Alien, it will be about the Space Jockey and how the Aliens fit into the "Alien Universe" through the derelict and hopefully the "who, what, when, where, and why" behind the Aliens.

I hope they don't just go Queen scale with these aliens either. The pilot was pretty huge, and if that's what the MALE'S grow to, I'd like to see the new Queen. Better yet, I'd like to see what the pathetic humans with pop-guns are going to do to a 40 foot walking terror. I think my scale is about right. The regular xenomorphs are about human sized at approximately 6 feet (standing), some bigger, some slightly smaller. The queen is roughly 15 feet tall. That gives a good solid 2.5:1 ratio in sizes. If the pilot in Alien is an indication, the new basic male creatures should be roughly the same as a Queen. Which puts the Queen at a healthy 35 - 40 feet tall. Which is like fighting a house. I'd love to see that. I just don't want to see super slow attacks by something so massive (Like the end of AVP). Just because it's big, doesn't mean it's not lightning fast. Anybody who's seen a 20 foot alligator or shark hit something knows size does not mean slow.

I created an account just to respond to you Praetorian. I really like where you went with the analogies to Prometheus. To that end: "When life evolved it started with war. Every predator has prey, and every prey is a predator. When mankind tipped the scales of balance through technology and science, life found a way. On a planet inhabited by an advanced race of [insert new race name here], a new evolution balanced the scales. An evolution, born of terror." TAGLINES In space... a predator is born In space... fear has taken on new form In space... life comes with it's own price In space... it has awakened And my personal favourite.... ReaperPrometheus ForumWill Charlize Theron's beauty be subverted?
I guess it depends on your definition of supermodels. I thought Vasquez was pretty hot, but I'm military and chicks like that always push my buttons. Charlize is going to be fantastic regardless of what role she plays. To be honest though, I'm tired of seeing the female always come out on top in the alien series. For once, I'd like to see the eye candy bite the dust creatively. Something unexpected, unforeseen, and unavoidable. Weaver was terrific as the lead role in the alien series because while not as attractive, she's got a skeletal structure to her face that screams, "Don't $%^$ with me!" She has that presence that commands leadership, and yet has a look about her that seems to drip innocence... occasionally. Usually she's a hard ass, and personally, I love every second of it. As disappointing as the newborn was in Resurrection, Weaver's role in that movie was over the top. I loved both the sinister aspect they gave the aliens (although the aliens in general were virtually useless in that movie. Seriously, watch it again, they do next to nothing), and the good mix of comedy/bad ass attitude that made you grin in anticipation of somebody pissing her off. Ultimately, I'd like to see all of the humans get taken out in Prometheus. The reason I bring that up is because of the completely disappointing AVP movies. You're going to tell me in conflicts where dozens of people fighting off just SINGLE CREATURES (alien or predator) get mauled and destroyed, that one person is going to survive combat against not just an alien swarm, but a group of bloodthirsty predator's as well? Ugh....... Basically what I'm punching at is that no matter who they cast or how well they play, if they can avoid the law of inverse ninja, I'll be very, very happy. Note: For those who don't know, law of inverse ninja states: As the number of ninja go up, the effectiveness of ninja go down. This is the alien series in a nutshell. One alien, huge problem. 300 aliens, much, much less effective. Sure plenty of people were killed, but in the end 3 people survived, and half a robot. And one of those people was a kid. Really? 1 predator, huge problem. 3 Predators? Didn't even get attacked by people and 2 died to a single alien, the same alien in fact. For those who know the lore behind Predator's, that's like getting a headshot on 53 zombies with one bullet. That you threw. With your bad arm. That was shot. Twice. Seriously? But then again the new Predators movie brought it all back again. All of the predators were vicious and either died WHILE killing somebody, or died because of injuries sustained while fighting off another predator making them weaker. So I'll have trouble believing a much larger alien race is going to be easily pushed over by humans. One queen is so much to handle that they've NEVER killed one in the movies in combat. And no, I don't count Resurrection. That stupid newborn could rip Queen's face off and yet couldn't rip Winona into tiny little pieces? Really? Not even when we were all hoping it would? Why Ridley? Why didn't you direct the sequels so they wouldn't suck? Anyways, I'm way off tangent. I think CT will kick ass, or get diced in seconds upon the first encounter. Either way, it'll be awesome.

It's very possible that there is no xenomorph home world. It might be fun to see a xenomorph roundup, but thats not necessary. They begin in pods. We're talking about creation in a labratory here. The xenomorph is a creation of "man". Prometheus, in mythology, stole fire "intellegence" from Zeus and gave it to human kind so they could be more like the gods. A Xenomorph is a very good analogy to the misuse of a gift or of power.

I am looking forward to it. I am a huge ALIEN fan as well as AvP and Predator, I collect all things ALIEN/Predator and have a nice collection of items too. As for PROMETHEUS, I have hopes that Scott will salvage the franchise and open a new door for future films (like Abrams did with Star Trek), since A3 and AR were a travesty to the story line. AR did attempt to save the franchise and the saga could carry on. Since A3 killed Hicks and Neut (Who should not have been killed, they were suppose to live and Ripley could have dies or lived), AR could have replaced them with Johner and Call, which would progress the story forward like it was intented to.

It's not important at all? It's already out there by Ridley himself. Paraphrasing; 1. The space jockey is either looking through a telescope or operating some kind of navigational device. 2. The alien is either a biological weapon or a planet cleaner as a first step to teraforming planets. So, space jockies, this movie is less about the alien and much more about the WHY!!!!! We already talk about teraforming Mars to make it inhabitable for us. That derelict ship in Alien 1 speaks volumnes abut it's purpose. Navigate from planet to planet to deposit self perpetuating pods which will eventually eliminate any life form that might be a threat to a take over. A ship accident occurs, blah blah blah! Aliens might have a timed life span. No Aliens in the derelict ship, only pods. So when the "people" of the targeted planet are extinct, the silent invaders return finding the planet cleaned. The above threads come from Ridley in interviews.

If this is the evolution of the Xenomorph, It is most likely to me that that at least a couple of the primary characteristics will be immediate and since there is (should be) enough time between this film and ALIEN, there is time for it evolve into what we are familiar with. But, then again, we do not know how far back Scott is taking the film. I guess I should not be surprised that Scott is not following any of the comic story lines for this film. Another concept I was always thought should come to fruition is that the Predators are the ones who geneticly engineered the Xenomorph, just so they had the ultimate prey for their hunts. But it seems that the Space Jockies are the ones responsible or this could simply be the evolution of a species.

astromaxPrometheus ForumFacehugger and the Egg
Invading targeted planets and fighting wars to clense those planets of it's indigenous life forms has proven to be costly, and tends to create unintended consequences. Here is a better way. Create a species in the laboratory that perpetuates itself. In that very act it destroys it's indigenous host. With some engineered triger that ends the xenomorph's life span, the silent invaders return to find a cleansed planet. This is what Prometheus is about.
