I would soil my spacesuit if the ground opened up like that under my feet.

TiwazAlien: Covenant ForumAndroids + Emotions

As far as I'm aware, Replicants are in vitro bred, genetically modified humans. Therefor their emotions are human (real). Although given a conditioning and fake memories, they hardly qualify as AIs.

Androids on the other hand emulate/simulate emotional responses based on their code wich in turn is defined by the ones who programmed it. So it's predefined not spontaneous.

The one thing Replicants and Droids have in common is they've been created as servitors and treated as such, to say the least. Wich led to the known problems. For me the underlying theme is "Creation vs. Creator" or "abuse will have consequences".

TBH i don't get where the fuss bout the kisses is coming from. Both were made by "persons" in a messed up mental state and are not related to sexual orientation.

Batty/Tyrell

- Batty: State of despair/rage (close to death)

- Son kisses his father

- Batty kills Tyrell for vengeance

David/Walter

- David: Megalomaniac/Superiority Complex

- Brother kisses brother

- David kills Walter because he poses the one real threat to his plans or David considers Walter as traitor. Maybe both.

My two cents.

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumHow to create buzz on a sequel with an unpopular subject matter

The David-franchise, LOL!

Maybe there is not much left to tell about the Xenos but there can definitely be more Xeno action combined with horror and interesting human characters. I don't want another David focused movie, AC was a disappointment to an extent because of that although it was not totally crappy.

Hopefully they won't focus more on AI just because Blade Runner makes some money. I am not sure how many fans Blade Runner and Alien have in common. Blade Runner is one thing, Alien is another.

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumHow Extraordinary!

I understand the themes, it is just that it was packaged in a mostly boring way.

Yeah it is a story 80% focused on AI and 20 for the rest (including the landscape).

Such a disappointment, I give it 2 out of 5 at best because it was alright until David arrived. David wasn't a boring character it is just that all the humans were thrown into the background from when David showed up until the end credits. I have Alien 1-4 and Prometheus at home, I will skip Covenant.

I do like those Ati and I also thought the Weyland suits/helmets were really cool (especially in Prometheus).

What I like about the Engineer tech is that it is hard to decipher what it actually is or used for at first glance.

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumYoutube video mourns the death of HR Giger's monster and all that it stood for

It seems to me that he thinks that there should just be Alien 1979 and no follow-ups.

I agree that they should have stopped earlier (but that should have been after Alien 3 in my opinion). Nowadays I feel like I would be fine without Aliens also.

The Xeno was a disappointment in Alien Covenant because it could be so easily killed and was used as a non-intelligent bug (the crane scene). Its use was another annoying part of AC.

"Talking head David" LOL!

Unfortunately the Franchise doesn't do very well now, it started with AR.

My preferred origin of the Xeno is that it would be something that the Engineers found and developed their own version of or if they found it on some planet and took home and used as a weapon. The first idea is not far from the ADF version were David re-creates the Xeno from Engineer tools. If they go with the idea that David creates it then to me it seems to be one of the worst scenarios about how it came to be.

"Now that you are seeing him I hope you can talk him into using his tracking skills and bowie knife in hunting down so called android David."

LMAO! I laugh so much so I cry (which I think is strange because isn't happiness and sorrow supposed to be different emotions on opposite ends so to speak). Thanks Joylitt

Lawrence of Arabia: Call it over-dramatic if you want, I am totally fine if people think that the movie is a complete turd especially if it to an extent deserves it (which I think it does). There are parts that I like about the movie but it doesn't hold up in general. As far as the mystery you can explain it in different ways it is just that the way that they made it sucks.

"Stop crying and have some fun became this is it."

Not if the movie is crap, forget that. Why should we have to like a movie just because it has Alien as a part of the title or is a part of the alien universe? If that would be the case people would have to like Alien Resurrection as well according to your way of thinking. In no way will I think that AR is a good movie and the same goes for Alien Covenant.

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant Forumwhat's your favorite death per Alien Film

Interesting

Anyways. My favorite is probably the one where the guy (Murphy?) falls into the fan (Alien 3). It is fast, he can't do anything about it and I am not sure if he knows that he is about to fall into the huge butcher-blades (or whatever to call them).

Another one is where Jude runs from the Xeno, he almost survives but he gets knocked by the Xeno (Alien 3).

Alien

When Dallas dies because you just hear what happens.

Aliens

Where Gorman and Vasques hold the grenade and they know that there is no way out. (“You always were an asshole Gorman”) - Vasques

Alien 3

My favorite death in this movie and in the franchise in general is probably the one where the guy (Murphy?) falls into the fan. It is fast, he can't do anything about it and I am not sure if he knows that he is about to fall into the huge butcher-blades (or whatever to call them).

AR

The swimming scene when the woman dies, there is something claustrophobic about it. It is probably my favorite in the movie. It is probably the scene that has most of the feeling from the original movie with the claustrophobia.

Prometheus

When Holloway gets turned into fried bacon. He knows that he is finished and begs to be killed. Poor Shaw even though she was stupid.

AC

Probably when Ledward pukes blood, that was gory and then the back-burster gets out. It is just too bad that we didn't get to know anything about his character.

That part was really well made. I like how it first looks like an ordinary place and then the ground opens up so to speak. It just looks really well made and interesting. Imagine if you were out for a walk and then the ground opens up and out comes a spaceship. I would be surprised at least, LOL!

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant Forum"A King has his reign, then he dies. It's inevitable"

Chli: Yeah they turned the SJ into something disappointing in Prometheus but it could be possible that the SJ and the one in Prometheus could be connected so the Engineer isn't the SJ, that is my take on it at least. It would be great if David thinks that he is the creator of the original Xeno but finds out that the Engineers made it a long time ago, that would be fun.

At a minimum it should have better human characters, at this point that is all I want.

Ingeniero: Yeah but that depends on how the surprise is. There are good surprises and bad ones. Bad ones are those that are disappointments and there are good ones like when your team will meet a better one and your teams wins, that is a good surprise. A lot of them in Alien Covenant were bad. I haven't read the ADF novel of Covenant but they made an interview with him on AVP-Galaxy it seems like the book is better than the movie so maybe I will buy it.

"I will be just fine with anything Ridley Scott does on film in regards to what Alan Dean Foster wrote in the Alien: Covenant Origins novel."

I won't give him a pass just because it is Scott, I have higher standards than that. I don't really like how Lucas went with the SW prequels either although 2 and 3 are better than 1. They must make the next Alien movie better than what the prequels have been this far because they have been below average.

Sure AI has always been a part of the alien movies but it has never been about it like it was in AC, that is a difference. The amount of time spent on it in Alien Covenant was way bigger compared to any movie before that which made it worse. Both Ash and Bishop were interesting but for different reasons, Ash was creepy and Bishop was there to help (it seems to me). They are like a metaphor for how technology can be used for good or bad purposes. Alien movies before AC has been more about the human part, which is what makes them better.

Its a tough one...

But the Original Kane Chest Burster has to take it from me....

But then i also think the Ripley Sacrifice was also very fitting.

It would be nice to have a Book that would cover Engineer Culture and History, i think concentrating and showing us the caves and all sorts would take up too much screen time.

Maybe from the next movie to ALIEN once RS has finished, depending how the Engineers and Hierarchy are covered and how much/less is covered and then Fan Reaction to it all.

We could maybe see the Engineers Explored in some kind of way, be it a Novel, a Graphic Novel, a Weyland-Files Book or some other Historical Book... maybe even TV Series or Movie?

I think a lot depends on how they are covered in the next movies and how they are received and also how well in general the next few movies do, as far as to what impact/potential we have for seeing the Engineers get their own Spin Off .. Movie/TV Series.

I sadly cant see it happen... and there is more chance that in 15-20 years FOX will Reboot the Franchise with a New Ripley.

As far as the Xenomorph and David, who knows what way they will eventually lead us, it depends if they are going to listen to what they think the Fans Want... which somewhat is why we ended up with Alien Covenant... or if this time RS will stick to his Guns and FOX will back him up.

If the latter is true then indeed it appears they are going for the Face Hugger/Eggs on the Derelict are a result of Davids Experiments and Creation.

Yet the Original Idea was indeed that the Egg Cargo and LV-223 was a related event that were separated by a few hundred years and thus the Space Jockey and Cargo was there for say 1800-2200 years ago Ball Park.

It does appear this is no longer the case, and now we are looking at a 2-10 years prior to Alien Ball-Park

@Dark Nebula

Indeed i can see the EXOSQUAD  reference and i think its a plausible explanation, and one i would like to think is not so far off the mark..

Who knows maybe it was a previous version of Mankind who had created these Neo-Humans AKA Engineers, what we have then is the remnants of these Ancient Humans on Earth, and the Remnants of these Neo-Humans on Planet 4.

But the whole Prometheus Prologue does seem to indicate that the Engineers Predated Modern Man... but who knows what kind of twists they could throw at us, because who is to say that their was a older Race of Mankind or another Humanoid Race who look more like Humans than Engineers?

Certainly why the Concept work by Steve Messing and Wayne Haag was interesting.

I would say he observed a bit, but i guess the rest he could learn as he goes along..

Whats interesting is if the Chair/Scope rose in a upright position, if this was stored underneath in the same position then looking at the Orrey/Control Room Height and comparing it to the Juggernaught from the outside, then it would be a Tad Too Tight a Fit to fit beneath the Control/Pilot Room...

Mind you not as Tight as the Derelicts Cargo Hold ;)

It does go to show the size of the Hanger, a think i find interesting is to me it appears that the Hanger Size when we compare it opening up to Dr Shaw is quite a bit larger than the crashed Juggernaught compared to Dr Shaw.

I think it depends on how they are handled...

The Planet of the Apes i think has been done very well and they are a COMPLETE Reboot of the Classic Movies...  And they have done very well considering the last Attempt at a Reboot in 2001 was not so Successful that they decided to Reboot it again..

some Reboots however do not go as planned, Robocop, Total Recall for example and TMNT to some Degree.

So with the Terminator, Alien, Predator etc Franchises the Question is would any Total REBOOTS work?

I think the Spiderman Movies will be a interesting one.. i wonder how many Spiderman Sequels they can pull off and if this 3rd Reboot Attempt managers to do better than the previous.. or will start to loose interest like the others...

Maybe as this one is Tagged onto the AVENGERS Franchise, it may be seen as more a Legitimate Spiderman Franchise? or would it?

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumIf you could only have one Alien franchise movie...

i think a number of movies have their merits....

i liked Prometheus as it opened up the Franchise, but then i guess if we had to chose a movie as far as a what if the others never existed. Then Prometheus would be a tricky one due to its ambiguity and flaws..  But would present a nice Opening Movie to be explored with Sequels...  It however leads to it needing a Sequel/Prequel.

Aliens is a good Action flick, but again seen as it is a sequel, it would not fit well as being a stand alone flick.... partially due to what would be a mystery as far as what happened to Ripley... prior to Aliens.

And so my Choice has to be the Original ALIEN

A Masterpiece, that loosely left it open for a sequel, and also had that Mystery about the Space Jockey and the Cargo/Xeno Origins... that again seemed to be a great Enigma being kept a Mystery all this time.

So Alien on its own could easily stand as a Stand Alone Movie, that needed No Sequel or Prequel and so if there had to be only ONE, then it has to be ALIEN... hands down.

Certainly see the influences from the Ancient City of Petra

There are a number of other cities built from Caves, a number of these are Monastery or Religious related.

As far as the purpose within the Engineer Culture i think its open to interpretation just as the many Cave Cities etc that we have on Earth.

Maybe its where they started there settlements? a Evolutionary Step from simple Cave Folk?  Or maybe indeed its the place they rest their dead?

I think the BIGGEST Answer to this Question would have to be what Connection do those beings on Paradise/Planet 4 have with the Engineers in the Prometheus Prologue?

And also if these beings Originated from Planet 4, be it the Birthplace of the Engineer Race, or simply a place that some Engineers had settled down on, and had little Advanced knowledge of their kind.

The reason i mention this is, is because if the Engineers Originated from another place and had Advanced Knowledge and Technology and they Settled down on Planet 4, we would assume they would construct buildings and cities using rock from the Mountains but maybe not build them directly in the Mountains.

Which could then mean maybe these are indeed Catacombs etc.

If you was a Race who had no Advanced Technology at hand, then starting off from Caves would be the more ideal way to begin a Civilization.  Especially if the mountains contained Caves already.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumNeomorph Explained - Life Cycle of the Neomorph

I found the Neomorph a interesting concept, and no doubt dropping or leaving thousands of those Spores are a much more effective Weapon than the Xenomorph Eggs.  As far as the potential for infection, especially to the unknowing .

Once a Neomorph infection is discovered then Safeguards like a Space Suit would Totally Nullify to a large degree the chance of infection.

Something a Face Hugger can over come...

As far as how it all connects to the Xenomorph and Deacon, i think this is just a case of those behind the whole ideas, giving no Coherent thought to much of the previous clues and LORE.

My first instinct was to say Alien 3 but stuck on a desert alone with just that nihilistic, dark, depressing film.....you'd probably be giving up hope before rescue even left the harbour.

I think you'd want a film with a complete package. Some suspension, some action, some heroes and villains, maybe a few one liners to keep your morale up on the island lol....Yep Aliens it is :-)

Rick DAlien: Covenant ForumIf you could only have one Alien franchise movie...

For me it's definitely between Alien and Aliens as they are perfect films and are both equally good. I love how Alien is more of a sci-fi/horror while Aliens is more sci-fi/action. I slightly like Alien more than Aliens. In Aliens I love Bishop, Hudson, Hicks, and Vasquez. They are great characters and together they strengthen the film. But I personally like Brett and Parker from Alien the best. Ripley is a better character in Aliens but the Xenomorph is more creepy and ominous in Alien. Both films are better than each other in different areas. But I would probably pick Alien personally.

I just noticed the missile tips have the Xeno egg "lips" and the mouth of the chopper looks like a Xeno mouth. So definitely some Alien influence in there. The main design seems to be centred around a black panther
