MemberNeomorphOct-13-2017 4:12 PMOnce at the forefront of the buzz machine for "Alien Covenant", several youtube channels started to show that they have lost faith in Ridley Scott's plans to wrap up his prequels leading to the back end of the legendary first Alien film from 1979. One of the channels deemed the continuing use of the Alien title to be irrelevant, suggesting to use "David's franchise" instead, and another laughed at Ridley Scott's inconsistent statements and updates. On top of that, there has been an recent overkill of movies about AI and synthetics that fared poorly at the box office, including a soon to be released one that looks like a total bomb. All this makes me wonder how 20th Century Fox is going to deal with the promotion of a story line that seems to be pretty unpopular among both fanbase and general audience. Ridley Scott's statement that "the evolution of the Alien is over" as if it was something central to the Alien mythos is puzzling (is this really that important considering all the questions left unanswered by "Prometheus"?), and to me it is totally unfair that the worst entry in the saga would be the one poised to change the course of the whole franchise. That is, if it does not kill it altogether.

Maybe there is not much left to tell about the Xenos but there can definitely be more Xeno action combined with horror and interesting human characters. I don't want another David focused movie, AC was a disappointment to an extent because of that although it was not totally crappy.
Hopefully they won't focus more on AI just because Blade Runner makes some money. I am not sure how many fans Blade Runner and Alien have in common. Blade Runner is one thing, Alien is another.

MemberNeomorphOct-17-2017 2:49 PMThoughts_Dreams AC was "secretly" an AI focused story. So they could still get a lot of people in the movie theater who didn't know about it. Now imagine what we can expect of a movie that is promoted as a story about AI taking over the franchise. I can tell you in advance: no more that 15-20 million opening weekend, with 70% drop on the second weekend. Maybe 120 million foreign box office (being very optimistic). A movie like that, in order to be profitable, should have a budget not bigger than that of "It" (35 million)
