Cool yet an interstellar craft's bridge should be hyper evolved with seemingly magic capabilities
I love the triptych bioturbation like some exo-planet topography
Not quite the organic derelict in Alien those are not real bones
Reverse engineered as in recreated it based on "blueprints"? That is what it says for me at least.
Tiwaz - Yes, you did. I wanted to highlight that as well. :)
Interesting note, Micheal Green helped write both Blade Runner 2049 and Alien:Covenant. And, no, I don't think anyone but Scott should direct the next Alien movie. I just feel like he needs to finish the story he's trying to tell.
"...reverse engineered the superior lifeform...", did I read that right?
Hillard- Listen.
(A scream is heard in the distance).
Thoughts_Dreams Agreed as I stated above with the highlighted part. It just looks wrong.
I just took it at face value. Actually something that size wouldn't have even fit and pass that easily from his throat.
I honestly never considered it until you brought it up.
It seems OK to me that the proto is fleshy in Covenant. Why should it be so biomecha in 2104?
Covenant takes place in 2104, Alien takes place in 2122.
18 years... David sees at the end of Covenant that the creature is not perfect. Probably he creates the biomecha version in the years to come.
Interesting. My take away is that you do what RS says creature wise after HR gets into his head first.
Thank you for the comments.
MonsterZero - Great points.
Dark Nebula - I love animated sci-fi movies from the eighties, Exosquad is a new one for me.
Everybody - I'm sure the makers of the new Alien movie are working on a script which will explain everything. We should be patient. :)
'I really do have Grave Concerns for the Direction of the Franchise now.... its as if Prometheus was just a mistake to FOX and all the History and information being laid down is being Redacted.'
I'm not brave enough to state anything now. I think they are building something.
daliens - 'Can this mean that Walter is not 100% safe? That he can choose to reign in hell? Is it possible that Walter actually killed David and stole his personality and knowledge? I am looking forward to reading this book. Thanks again Ati.'
Welcome. - The same feeling here. Those lines are used to make 'the ambiguity of facts' stronger.
Covenant of the two androids?
BigDave - 'In this time they may have had limited Food/Drink as they was not prepared for such a Bombardment and eventually Malnutrition and Starvation would leave any Engineers who survived being very weak and Ripe for the Pickings.'
It sounds good. :)
Plus I'm sure they took some guns from Prometheus with them, so David had a gun. :D
Blade Runner 2049 review
The sequel that we’ve been hoping for

yes even though i think the world of Prometheus, A:C was hopefully a distraction and we get what deserve. not a classic. a good movie with continuity will do.
I also find it very irritating that they change the background history. Everyone could see that the space jockey was very old (fossilised or a skeleton) which means that the eggs, protected by the layer of mist, were that old as well. This would correspond with the outbreak on LV-223 about 2000 years prior to The Nostromo landing on LV-426.
We know from Prometheus that the engineers experimented with the mutagen/pathogen 2 millennia before David & Co arrived on LV-223. We know that the outbreak killed all the engineers there (except one) and that there were holes in the sleeping chambers and in the bodies piled up outside a closed safety door. We also see the engineers running from something and we hear a scream which could indicate a deacon (or something similar). We also see an engineer giving birth to a deacon (after having been facehugged by a large mutated version). We also have the old mural with some kind of xenomorph and engineers (or abducted humans?) being facehugged by “normal sized” facehuggers.
In the novelization of Alien: Covenant (Foster) there are several passages in which David clearly says that he is not the creator of neither the egg nor the facehugger. They are accomplished through “thousands of years of practise at biological and genetic engineering”.
All the scriptwriters need to do is to say that David recreates (or perhaps develops) what the engineers long since has already created. David’s creations can have nothing to do with the space jockey and the eggs on LV-426 which Kane, Dallas and Lambert find there, however.
Well, if the closeness to Planet 4 where David (and Shaw) happen to be, is not a coincidence (and not a play staged by even higher “gods” than the engineers), what if Mother is behind it (in other words WY)? Perhaps far fetched . . .
Yes, the reason behind David’s attitude towards engineers and humans are quite easy to understand: a superior being intended to serve the inferior; a badly treated “son” having learnt the flaws of the “father”.
I don’t think David learnt anything new about the engineers as Shaw slept. He already knew enough (the engineers wanted to eradicate mankind and start a new paradise from scratch) and was aware of his superiority (and his hatred towards all inferior beings). He wipes them out (just as they wanted to do with mankind) and when Shaw doesn’t want to participate in his creation of a new Eden, he forces her to . . .
So, now we have to wait for the final chapter which ties everything together in the Alien Saga. Let’s hope for an interesting finish!
*Johner puts his gun to Call's temple*
Johner - Does anyone want me to make this simple?
It has the same problems as the movie in general: it has good ideas but it wasn't executed very well. They could have spent more time on that scene to explain what it meant. As far as it is now, it is rushed.
I am not sure what popped out of it when they studied the head, to me it looks like it simply exploded when they are about to freeze it.
There are things there that could have been done well if they would have added some small parts, like the petting of the space cobra when they found a small worm kind of thing before. At least we didn't get stupid things like that in Covenant.
Gavin: That's right, I see it although it took time to discover it.
Thanks to whoever made it.
It was OK
As a friendly reminder there are clips where some characters have some messages before they go on the mission. They could have been added to add some to the characters although there are some parts in Daniel's message that could be cut out to make it better.
Big Dave: Thanks for the essay. ;)
I am one of those that appreciate the Engineers more after AC, I never thought that would be the case before I watched the movie so that was a surprise.
You mention that people have their various likes and dislikes about the franchise but in one way that is good because that means that people think but in another way it is bad. The bad things is that it is very difficult for those that shall make another Alien movie because there is a risk that it will be a disappointment and a lot of people get mad. It depends on how you look at it.
The franchise has been around for so long so it would be a surprise if everyone would like the same things. Even in Alien related movies that I don't like in general or that I just find OK there are parts that I can appreciate. For example I appreciate Call in AR even though the movie as a whole is a disappointment. Fassbender and Elba were good in Prometheus even though it is far from my preferred Alien movie. Alien Covenant has Oram that I found to be an interesting character, way better than Shaw because he was still a believer and so was Shaw but they had different approaches to it. Oram seemed to be less fanatical about his faith. Walter was a part that I also liked about AC.
Indeed that is a problem, maybe they could use David in the next Alien movie but have him killed by his creation kind of early or half-way in the movie and the humans have to deal with his creation. This is a way that I could have done it if I was the director.
Maybe keep David to let it be more about the humans and the Engineers, that is what I wold prefer. Keep the Xenomorph as a link between the humans and the Engineers to give them something in common.
Yeah there is a lot that they could write about. In case they don't plan a four movie prequel series then maybe they could keep the less important parts in books? I am sure that this would keep some fans disappointed but it is impossible to please all among millions of Alien fans.
The Xeno only works if you have interesting human characters that we can relate to. Alien and Alien 3 got this right. Just having a monster won't work, I mean do we really identify ourselves with a Xeno? To me the answer is obvious. You write about the Queen, I think that it is too early for that. For me at least a queen fits later in the evolutionary chain, it is too early for that now. Right now as far as the time-line goes in the franchise they should use the egg-morph IMHO.
Ripley, well she could have been any interesting character really. Having Hicks a a lead in Alien 3 could also have worked. My point is that the franchise isn't about Ripley, nor should it be even though she is important to what happen later in the time-line.
“I do have a idea of how they can dig themselves out though, and i will post this again soon.... and i kind of think it may be were FOX are taking us too.”
Do so, I would like to read about it.
The long part of the head looks like it would move up an down when the monster runs because a lack of construction of the part between the tail and the head. The elongated part is what I mean when I write tail. I am not sure how they would get it right in the movie without it looking ridiculous. Maybe they would animate it.
The pictures look alright.
He says so at the end when Daniels has laid down in the pod. It seems to me that he says it to gain her trust before she lays down and they close the door.
Maybe David wants people to be kind to him (to do as he wants) but I am not sure if he cares to look up how people want to be treated. Perhaps he is like a psychopath that doesn't feel emotions like most people do? Because of this he can't create a kind world as we know it.
Does this make sense?
“. . . and do not waste an hour building characters .. that all die. “
I think that they need to have interesting characters that we can identify with and care for. Many main characters have died (Ripley and Shaw) so they need to do something new.
That idea sucks, I will probably never accept that, I will make my own version thank you very much. It could be alright if David developed it from Engineer tools but having him be the original creator of it will never be acceptable to me. Right now it seems like they do what ever they can to make the franchise worse, it is just really bad.
“Make it up as we go along Plots.... which ultimately could turn the Franchise into a Laughing Stock.... Sadly"
They do what ever they can to make it into a bad comedy.
If this is the way that they have planned it for the prequels, if it ends up like that in the end then I will probably throw the prequels away and pretend that they never happened.
Ati: Of course! ;) I don't mind that at all.
If anyone else has a bad joke, give it a shot.
Apologies for going off topic.
I think I already covered this on another topic.
Ridley Scott stated that in the sequel "awakening" the Engineers come and find their planet dead. Which means there are other planets inhabited by the engineers.
The planet 4 engineers looks more civilian since the city inhabited by them looks more Greek/Roman, the only technological part we saw was the mother juggernaut flying above the city and the landing bay for ships located at the center of the square. We haven't really seen the rest of the city, maybe each building hides something. There is one part in the engineer citadel that has a metal shelf (simmilar to that of the corridor in juggernaut) where Daniels found David's illustrations of Shaw.

As for the LV-223 ones, they do look more technological in comparison with the planet 4 ones. To me, they are genetically engineered soldiers/ servants, that's why they look different than the planet 4 ones. This kinda reminds me of the old cartoon called EXOSQUAD where humans have been creating other much stronger and larger beings via genetic manipulation and cloning, and they used them as slaves on colonized planets. Humans called them Neosapiens and they were mass produced, but this turned out to be a large mistake when Neosapiens rebelled and took over the earth.

As for the topic, when I rewatched 1979 alien I noticed some problems with the original Space Jockey (like the SJ being too big to get facehugged as we've seen facehuggers are suitable for human faces) and I now know why they are retconning all this like MonsterZero said. People don't like what Ridley is doing because of the nostalgia.
I think those are the interesting Questions that Prometheus 2 could have answered...
As the Premise was that Humanity on Earth is surely not the only Humanoid Species the Engineers played a role in creation/evolution of.
The Face Hugger would actually be ideal for use on Humans, or Engineers as they are not vastly larger than us, and indeed any other Humanoid Life... which would include Predators (i know not Canon) but the Face Hugger appears designed for use against Humanoids be they 3ft or 10ft.
I can see why RS felt it was more important to show the Xenomorph was purposely designed for the purpose of killing Humanoids, and why he thought it would be a interesting Curveball to show David is the Creator.
I know its going Bum Out some fans, if they stick to their Guns and reveal that indeed prior to the Covenant Ship Arriving at Planet 4 in the year 2104 there is not a Single Alien Egg or maybe even not a Derelict on LV-426
Time-wise now there would have to be a lot of Shoe-horning, because we have to Assume David goes to Origae-6 with the Covenant, which will take us to the year 2111-2112 Ball Park and so the events from Davids Creation and what happens on Origae-6 to a Engineer Ship ending up on LV-426 will all take place within a period of about 10 years.
I think still it would be interesting to explore what the Origin of the DNA within the Black Goo was, the Deacon, the Mural the Frescos... as while it may seem the Alien Franchise Xenomorph is now a Creation by David or at least the start of it is..
Its Origins date back to the Black Goo that the Engineers had discovered and created, and their is a whole Story there for the Horrors that lead to this.
Thanks ATI!
Very cool...'Face' huggers were clearly designed for humanoids...not just any wandering creature(dinosaurs, elephants, sharks, mice, etc..)
IF the facehugger pods on LV-426 are millions of years old....then who were the Engineers expecting to facehug? Other Engineers? Other humanoids? Humans on Earth were still living in caves and eating dirt.
Creating the facehuggers just in case humans develop space travel and just happen to stumble on one of them!?!?
Facehuggers on LV426 make sense if they were just put their(22 century) OR Engineers had a problem with another humanoid race or themselves.
I think the way they are going now is going to lead to a lot of inconsistencies....
We have to assume Planet 4 is one of their Homeworlds but not their Actual Homeworld as in the Origin of their kind or their only place they live in.... because we see a lack of Technology for such a Advanced Race that the Prometheus opening Scene and LV-223 showed.
Unless they reveal that another Race is above the Engineers who are a little different, and that Planet 4 is the world this other Race seeded Engineers on.
I think its a ambiguous piece of information you shared Dark Nebula because its open to interpretation of first, which Engineers knew of the Bio-Weapon Well? LV-223, those on Planet 4, or just a handful on Planet 4 as well as all those on LV-223.
Because they seemed to not have no Fear for when the Juggernaught Arrived, and if the Weapon was known and related Xenomorphs and actually some parts of Planet 4 was used for this purpose then the Total Lack of Security is Shocking...
Which would make the Blue Laser/Myst on the Derelict about as Advanced a Precaution they had lol
Also the Stolen Ship, is that the acknowledgment of the Stolen Juggernaught? which would narrow down the previous point... or is it the Stolen Covenant.
For Sanity Sakes.. i am drawn to the Juggernaught, and LV-223 Outpost and so most of those Engineers on Planet 4 would not have been expecting the Horror they Faced.
"By the way, isn't it a very curious thing that The Covenant recharges and encounters a particle wave just next to Planet 4?"
Sadly i think its just a lot of Lazy Writing and not giving anything much thought.....
As indeed its a Stroke of Pure Coincidence....
We will see truly how bad the writing is, if we see that Origae-6 by Pure Coincidence is either a Engineer World, or was at one time... or already has Humanoids who got their due to Engineers just as we had originated on Earth etc.
I do worry such Coincidences and Shoe-horning will be going on.
I think there are clues that indeed not all the Engineers Died.....
As how does David get Hosts for his experiments? he experimented on Life Forms, and so not all was destroyed in the Bombardment, but it is just really BAD Writing to be honest... really not done their Homework i am afraid.
But explanations i thought of would be that maybe
1) The Docking Ship had Engineers on it and after it crashed, the few survivors inside were not affected by the Bombardment outside. But then we have to ask how does David over power a number of Engineers when One Dealt with him with Ease in Prometheus... Again a bit of Lazy work IMO.
2)There were a large number of Engineers already in and close to the Cathedral Dome, and they all appeared to trying to Run into the Building before it went into Lock Down. So we can Assume this Place Gave Shelter from the Black Goo Bombardment..
But again we come to the "how does David over power a number of Engineers"
On Both accounts i can assume that the Bombardment contaminates the Atmosphere etc so its not Safe Outside, and so any Engineers inside the Docking Ship and any who made it to Safety inside the Cathedral, would have to wait a number of Months, Years... before it was SAFE.
In this time they may have had limited Food/Drink as they was not prepared for such a Bombardment and eventually Malnutrition and Starvation would leave any Engineers who survived being very weak and Ripe for the Pickings.
But i am kind of thinking those who worked on the Story, never gave much thought and ULTIMATELY...
David can just Raise Dead Engineers from the Dead...
Thanks for the share. Lots of interesting stuff.
Looks like the Planet 4 is the Engineer homeworld after all.

Indeed seems they are Redacting the whole History that Prometheus laid down... i fear once they have made their prequels to Alien and we go and watch Prometheus... then Prometheus will make less sense... especially the TED 2023 Viral
Shocking that those working on the Movies etc, really dont do their homework...
The Back Ground marketing for Prometheus gave us that Peter Weyland was born in 1990, if we look at the Prologue in Alien Covenant then Peter Weyland would look 45-50 years old.
When the First David was activated in the year 2025, and so Weyland would be 35 but he looked older than that in AC..
I wonder now if they are Changing the History of David, so that actually that Prologue Scene would have taken place around the year 2040-2050 Ball Park?
