The opening? Do you mean the "vision" of a city overrun by something?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/2017/09/27/blade-runner-2049-first-reactions-critics-call-film-sci-fi-masterpiece/

Audiences have become so accustomed to so-so reboots and belated, underwhelming sequels that it's often a shock when one of them turns out to be good. That seems to be the general reaction to Blade Runner 2049, which held its first industry screenings last night, leading countless journalists to emerge from auditoriums in starry-eyed disbelief that the neon-soaked sequel might be, could possibly be, even better than the first.

"I think this Blade Runner is better than the original," tweeted Fandango.com founder Erik Davis, while USA Today critic Bryan Alexander revealed that it unexpectedly moved him even more than its predecessor.

I believe the translation was off when Peter Weyland had David 8 speak for him. David 8 must have mentioned the Perrier water acquisition and the Engineer was confused when looking at Mr. Weyland (below).

Perrier wasn't founded until 1898 and the Engineer had been asleep for millennia. The Engineer had missed the industrial revolution and disco and had no idea someone mass-produced bottles to capture the spring water for sale.

Thank you for commenting Tiwaz. Do you have an idea of what the opening of the book describes?

Now we know at least one secret ingredient of the accelerant. That's why the Engies came to earth.

For me in Prometheus, her character was naive and smug, but so were some of my college professors. Sincerely, I could not decide if she was to be in PhD in archaeology or some kind of medical professional.

I did know the RS (the same initials, what a grand conspiracy) but I always founded trashy. Stripping for old men is never cool, sorry.

But there also is the sex scene in What happened to Monday ...

Through the whole Alien series if you have that voice malfunction as an android/synthetic means you're in a bad place. Ridley intended that. By the way RS has a history of saying some things in interviews to distract or detract viewers..

The Hampshire connection made me smile. The folks around Hampshire are priceless....especially the one who went to The Noise Next Door for his birthday. Thank you for every comment. You provide so much for so many.

And yes, SenseOfDoubt, the second half is great.

I was pouting a little when the novel was closing because the lack of Engineer content but the novel is exactly what many said the story lacked..a glimpse across Weyland-Yutani Corporation on Earth from the view from their workers in the field, corporate, security and a small window into the day-to-day lives of those staying behind when the Covenant departs.

Alien: Covenant Origins is a great book.

Interstellar & Cloud Atlas, yes, I agree on their crappiness!!

David lied to Lope when he put the patch on his face. He nonchalantly said "It's fine" when clearly it was not. That was an early clue that an impostor was onboard.

Something Real its ok I forgive you. I also apologised for a similar secret enjoyment of that film....

Im Durp Battlefield Earth. Bloody Hell! How did that become a thing?! Awful.

Im going to agree with The Force Awakens. crap film.

I don't get the Interstellar hate. It wasn't the best, but I wouldnt wish to unsee it by any means.

Did the scene on the cargo lifter, when Lope asked "Walter" for a painkiller shot, contain any clues about the android's true identity? I don't know why I was convinced that it should reveal something but after watching it several times I couldn't find anything relevant.

Would Walter have gone to help Daniels fight the Protomorph as he already saved her twice before, from neomorph and from David? I mean he threw her the axe but did not go out.

And he looked a little confused on the cargo lifter, not helping Lope until asked for help, it took him few seconds to locate the medical kit.

I think the first time he shows himself as David is when he smiles like a mad scientist, seeing what the second Protomorph did to Lope on the Covenant. From that point there is no doubt on who he really is.

I liked the bit with the Goats, it had me in stitches - and being from Southampton, I enjoyed the Hampshire connection especially Calshot Beach.

The second half of the novel is better.

DK - Babylon AD and Interstellar are two Scienc Fiction films which I wish I could remove from my mind! As an aside, I am guilty of loving Avatar! It is my love of romance and the natural world which keeps me enthralled by the film! Please, be gentle with me! *Cringes*

Thank you for the long and very insightful response, i really enjoyed one of the points you brought up about the goo coming from a "xeno like"  creature.

I thought it be cool if it came from a much more pure bio mechanical entity like the larger xeno i drew or something more Lovecraftian.

Aliens

Alien3

Alien:Resurrection

Then watch them right after I watched Prometheus and Alien:Covenant.

Would be so cool to watch them with fresh eyes.

Wondering what the hell happened to the Engineers or David!?!

Interstellar - Loved TARS and CASE.  Awesome design and banter.

Yes, for me "Interstellar" was way too "new agey" for a film advertised as having a strong grasp on science. In fact this movie confirms to me that many contemporary scientists are taking science dangerously close to religion. However there is one point of Interstellar that appeals to me, and is the idea of a virtually unlimited evolution of the human mind. In the field of speculative science that is to me as fascinating as the aliens.

DK - Rifleman's creed.....  Love it.  Springfield Armory M14 Battle Rifle with selector switch is a bucket list purchase item for me.  Working on it.

Elysium was a letdown for me. While it had an interesting premise and a showcase of Copley's acting range (probably thanks to the close relationship with Blomkamp similarly to Sam Jackson+Tarantino=good acting) - it's also a showcase of firearms, particle effects in slow motion, robots and gangster stereotypes, when I wished that the story was a bit more compelling with less emphasis on above mentioned aspects.

District 9, despite a similar formula however, got to me a bit more effectively with a moderate dose of sentimentality with believable Copley and aliens that I felt compassion for.

Speaking of sentimentality, Interstellar went way, way, WAY overboard with all too obvious and way too many tear-jerking baits mashed into one singular film. Sorry Nolan, not gonna fall for that s*** (respectfully)

Real Steel - good grief that was bad.

Neomorph Elysium to me is a mixed bag. But I agree on Chappie. But Interstellar? I didn't love it but I can rewatch for sure even though I always find the same problems.

Joylitt you must grade (B) on a curve.  :-). It's been a while, but when he set himself on fire then swam around with squid lady I actually questioned what I was doing with my life.  Agree with you on the W brothers...

I wish I could un-watch everything the Wachowski brothers did post Matrix, including "Speedracer", "Cloud Atlas" and "Jupiter Rising".

Spearfish I don't remember "Dagon" being that bad for a B movie.

Guardians vol 2 - kinda a kiddie twist with random really NOT kiddie parts...

The Mummy

Judge Dredd

Flash Gordon

SW Force Awakens, E1, EVI

Dagon

Anything Percy Jackson...

I could go on forever!  Most people suck at sci fi!  Would be interesting to flip the question - what are the best?  Two parts to sci fi and it is an equation!  Need action grounded in science/tech and a good fictional story.  Anyone can make a fictional story with no scientific rules applied and just get artsy nonsense.
