Alien Unseen: Two Deleted Scenes

Alien Unseen: Two Deleted Scenes

I was sent an e-mail from an Andrew Carville regarding a deleted scene featured in the Alien Legacy documentary.

The scene shows two of the ship's crew walking on the planet with a shot of the Nostromo in the background. Andrew has asked me for more info on the scene.

Well, the scene is what's known as a forced perspective shot. It was supposed to give you the illusion of distance between the crew and the Nostromo. The shot was filmed by Ridley Scott at Shepperton Studios. Furthermore, the two actors inside the space suits were, in fact, Phil Rae one of Alien's model crew, and the second was one of the production office girls as they were the only two small enough to fit inside the space suits! Below is a behind the scenes picture of the scene.

Thanks to Phil Rae for posting the pic and info over at the Eagle Transporter Forum

In this second deleted scene before Ripley blasts the alien out of the airlock, a sequence was filmed featuring a close-up of the alien through Ripley's helmet. The close up shows the creature slowly opening its mouth reviling its inner jaw. At the same time, the alien steadily goes to grab Ripley's helmet. Below are three screenshots of the scene.

The scene is one of many close-ups of the creature that Ridley trimmed. Personally, I wish this scene was kept intact. Below are some behind the scene photos of the scene.

In the final version of the film, we only get to see a few seconds of the scene above.

The shot of them looking back at the ship looks pretty good for a couple of people standing in front of a model.
