If you love alien and monster movies, then you know the classics are where it all started. Even though the visuals weren't as good as they are now, they have some of the best sci-fi moments ever. Regardless of whether it's malevolent or benevolent, there are just films that make us wonder about life beyond Earth and all the possibilities. While the genre is not for everyone, it has a constantly growing following that has changed the movie scene.
In this blog post, we are going to share some of the best classic alien and monster movies to watch on streaming services like Dish TV, Netflix, and others. Ready? Let’s begin!
- Annihilation (2018)
Annihilation may be one of the best alien movies out there. It messes with your head... in a good way. It's all about a group of scientists who step into a mysterious zone where everything starts mutating called The Shimmer. Plants, animals, and even people mutate, which means the deeper they go, the weirder and scarier things get. It's really giving creepy yet beautiful vibes. To be honest, it may leave you with more questions than answers. It’s definitely one of the best – trust us on this.
- Enemy Mine (1985)
Enemy Mind is a sci-fi film that takes the classic "humans vs. aliens" story in a completely different direction. Instead of fighting each other, this movie is about friendship and survival. The story follows a human pilot and a reptilian alien who crash-land on a desolate planet. At first, they’re enemies, but with no one else around, they’re forced to rely on each other to stay alive. It's a touching movie that teaches us that differences don't always have to lead to war.
This 1-hour and 50-minute movie is completely a must-watch. Just a friendly advice though that if you watch this movie, make sure your internet service provider hasn’t scheduled a maintenance or it’s not peak hours so you don’t experience interruptions. This movie is really good.
- Life (2017)
If you enjoy sci-fi horror movies, you'll enjoy Life. It's about a group of astronauts on the ISS who found a tiny alien organism in a soil sample from Mars. Of course, they got excited because it's a solid proof of extraterrestrial life. But things take a sharp turn when the creature starts growing fast and turns out to be way smarter and deadlier than anyone expert. If you're in that situation, what would you do?
- Contact (1997)
Love thinking or overthinking? Contact may be your best bet. It's all about Dr. Ellie Arroway, a scientist who has spent years searching for signs of alien life. One day, she picks up a mysterious signal from deep space and tries to decipher the message. As she tries to understand the message, she starts challenging everything she believes about the universe, faith, and even science.
We would re-watch this movie as many times as we could. It’s a powerful and moving movie in which Jodie Foster did an exceptional job. Since it’s an old movie, it can also be watched on traditional cable, satellite, and even Spanish TV.
The Bottom Line
We hope you give these alien and monster movies a try. We completely understand the fascination you’re getting from these kinds of films. While we’re not sure if you’ve watched some of these titles, if, in any chance you haven’t watched any of them yet, you’re in for a big treat — probably one massive rollercoaster ride when you watch this list. Have fun!
