Alien, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott has revealed that the upcoming Noah Hawley directed Alien FX TV series will run between 8 and 10 hours long! While speaking to BBC Radio, Scott explained that Alien is currently being written and will span a similar length to the upcoming Blade Runner show:

We’re already into, having written, the pilot for Blade Runner, and the bible. We’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV Show which will probably be the first 10 hours and then Alien is a similar thing. Alien is now being written for Pilot. You also have to write the history of it – 8 hours or 10 hours – the bible of what happens in those 10 hours. Then if it goes on, like The Good Wife is mine and The Good Fight is mine – that’s been going 16 years.
Given the suggested length, we can assume the series will likely span 8 to 10 episodes in its first season, assuming each episode runs for an hour. Compared to the sub-2-hour length of previous Alien films, that leaves a lot of room for added content and depth of plot.
The Alien TV series for FX on Hulu will begin filming during spring of next year, kicking off in March, 2022. As new casting details and plot information become available we'll be sure to keep you posted!
