MemberOvomorph06/12/2011I'd rather think of them as superior creators and progenitors completely devoid
of mere emotion, suffering or even ecstasy in their pursuit of whatever they do.
These 'human' aspects would merely hinder their 'scheme of things'. Neither good nor evil but something absolutley neutral letting NOTHING stand between them and their purpose.
This is just ONE impression I get from that standalone image of him/her in the
chair in Alien - the image is that powerful, mysterious and eerie and speaks silent volumes.

AdminEngineer06/12/2011Wow, that's a lot to get out of one image! I would have to agree with you though. They don't seem like killers, hunters or savages. But more so like a race with a specific purpose, possibly driven by some form of religion?

Necronome Temple Secrets
MemberOvomorph06/13/2011Your all bonkers!. Didn't you see the special features on the Alien laser disc?. Right!, the space jockey was all about saving money in the origonal filming of Alien. In the origonal script, there was a derilict alien ship, the whole crew of which had been exploded from the inside, leaving a warning beacon behind them about what happend, and a ruined alien temple, indiginouse to the people of LV426, based on a religion of brutal violence, where the eggs were all laid. To save money, ridley scott merged the two concepts, of the alien ship, savaged by the alien eggs, and the alien temple into one, single (confusing!) thing. The space jockeys are not a superior species, they are hapless victims, that never origonally had the eggs on board at all!, the egg chamber on board, is purely the merging of the temple and the ship together to save money!.

MemberOvomorph06/13/2011necromone the space jockey was nearley cut because it would cost TOO MUCH Ridley had to persevere with the suits at fox to get it in, and a good thing too, also in the original script there was supposed to be an earth ship there as well, but Carrol and Giler cut the script up and added the subplot with ash. they did that with the script NOT Ridley

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph06/19/2011The essence of space jockey is one of serving a higher purpose without choice or will power cause it's plugged in bad. That's why it's got tubes on their backs and tails like dinosaurs cause they were before man as reptilians. That is all we are! locked in a Pandoras Box like our cosmic bionic Kamakazi Commando THE SPACE JOCKEY

MemberOvomorph06/25/2011I'm glad Prometheus has a mythological theme. All of you have created your own mythology out of rumor and unrelated threads of 'what ifs'.

MemberOvomorph07/1/2011Personally. I am very glad that they have decided to include the Space Jockey in the film. I mean, its what every fan has been anticipating for for like 30 years since the original film. As far as physical appearance, I hope they are large (as far as the rumors/news has put out so far) in a range from 8 to 15 feet in height. Mass? Enough to proportionately accomadate that height. Coloration... I guess we will have to see, but since Giger is involved in the designs i'm sure it will not disappoint. The look will probbaly be memorable and something new in the Alien canon. I would prefer them to be a "hostile" species bent on conquest. They may not attack/kill humans outright, but their intentions are to dominate humanity through their terraforming and unleashing the xenos as a way to erradicate the human race. But, they would definitely be superior in brute strength to a human. I feel the comic Aliens:Apocalypse the Destroying Angels was a basis for the ideas of Prometheus and if you read the comic. you will definitely see the strong ties to this fim. It even features the "larger xenomorph types" that this film will have (with exceptions of course) . I guess I see the Space Jockey as a conqueror type of species with superior intellignece and something that should have a mysterious aura about it. I would say they "do not" come in peace since they want to terraform the galaxy using the xenomorph as an extermination tool.

MemberOvomorph07/2/2011No Necronome Temple Secrets, it's called a rewrite, and a great one at that. Look at all the mystery and suspense the one space jockey has created. Ridley showed just enough to create that. It's not how much you see, it's what you don't see cowboy.

MemberOvomorph07/2/2011the concept art pic of a space jockey standing, clothed/armored tells you just a bit, but invites us to fill in the blanks. Thats what an artist does, pulls you into the art.

Ruhaniya, all very interesting, really, but all of that, the concepts, the speculation, the mythology are all created by us to explain what we don't understand, like the space jockey. Actually his essence is styrafoam and paint assembled by an artist.

MemberOvomorph07/2/2011The essence of the space jockey is styrafoam and paint assembled by an artist. All the rest of that is mythology, which was created by us in an attempt to explain what we don't understand.

MemberOvomorph07/2/2011Humans created mythology to explain what we don't understand. Some of these posts are factual and some are mythology, and all very interesting. Imagine, we have a year to wait for this thing.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph07/2/2011I feel that this whole business of the Space Jockey or its race being “gods” or progenitors of the human race (if that is the case) in the PROMETHEUS film is a proverbial “slap in the face” to folks who do believe in God. According to Wikipedia, 2.5% of the world’s population are atheists. Therefore, this concept “flys in face” of 97.5% of the populations more traditional perspectives of creation, and the origin of our species. Why would Ridley Scott and company make such a bold and potentially offensive faux pas as a plot point? My only guess, is that they just don’t care. Sir Ridley is not beyond tweaking his films and history to push his own anti-religious agendas. This is quite evident if you’ve ever seen Scott’s ROBIN HOOD, KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, 1492: CONQUEST OF PARADISE, etc. By the way, I'm a serious fan of Ridley Scotts work...most of it any way...especially ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, and GLADIATOR.
Now I don’t mean to be all “preachy”, but I just think its ill advised for the filmmakers to potentially insult the bulk of their audience…that’s “asses in seats”…that’s money! Obviously, a good artist is bound to be revolutionary at times…I just think that he should also be respectful of the viewers perspectives. Remember how most of us felt when Newt and Hicks were killed off before the opening credits of ALIEN 3 had even finished? Geeeez…That was just straight out “disrespectful”. In the end…its only a movie, but ALIEN and ALIENS were two great ones! I just hope that I will be able to glean some of the same fun, scares and fascination from PROMETHEUS, that I did from those first two films…especially the great original.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph07/2/2011Hey Rick,
Thanks for the tip, that was an excellent interview...although very cryptic. At least it was from the "horses mouth"...and he was'nt sayin' "Jack squat" about the actual storyline. That's pretty much what I suspected. So, most...or virtually all of the internet traffic and squabbling about the plot is a bunch of subjective hooey! Right?

Rick
MemberXenomorph07/2/2011Yeah pretty much. Its cryptic but you need to read between the lines and what he doesn't say speaks volumes more than what he does say. Like No facehuggers, no humanized alien, only about the Space Jockey and will answer many questions that we have had about the alien for 30 years.

Don't know how long they will stay up but here are two new pics of the Prometheus set. Ridley I'm sure is not happy. They will come down very soon.
