The most powerfully acted scene there were actually two. When Sigourney and Yaphet Koto got into an arguement during filming and Ridley decided to keep it. That part was after Dallas was taken in the shaft and Ellen came into her own on what to do. The other powerful scene was when Veronica Cartwright actually slapped Sigourney in the face and they almost got into a cat fight over it. That was after she refused to let them in the airlock.

Okay here goes nothing. In the original script the crewmen visit the derelict first and return to their ship safely. Only after the storm dies down a bit and with a clue found on the alien ship do they venture to a pyramid where they finally encounter a facehugger.
