The last picture you have posted could explain the egg partly being buried in the picture with the egg / rock on the floor to the right of David, where he is holding the camp bag.....

I don't think they're 'eggs' as such no - as they have vertical 'writing' or text of some sort on them that has been seen in higher-res close ups.
