MemberOvomorph12/14/2011With all due respect here to "Biomechanic" an upstanding and rock solid member of this community who suggested this thread to begin with...
THE FILMS THAT SHOOK YOUR VERY SOUL !!!
I am going to start by saying this
It would be cool if each one of us could simply name 1 film that "shook us to our very soul" and why it did this, among anything else anyone/we want{s} to add to this discussion.
For me the first film that comes to my mind is "Deliverance"
I don't know why really, maybe it was the Banjos and the Freaks that played 'em, maybe it was the idea of that all happening to me on my camping adventures with buddies, maybe it was the Bows and arrows, yea that's it, maybe it was just flat out that damn last scene with the hand and the water.
But deep down I think it was that I Loved that Burt Reynolds loved football.
He was "The Man" when I was a kid.
He had at all... and seeing him in that shit scared the crap outta me !!!
Down to my soul.
Down to the point that I had dreams about it !!!
It's Your Turn Now !!!

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011Raiders of the Lost Ark - It has everything and thrills me on every level. From the cheap scare of the mummies scene in the well of souls to the idea of a race against evil for control of an ancient weapon designed by God. You can't beat it. : )
Thanks for the dedication... Though I was hoping for a giant stone face carved in my likeness instead.

Mechanically, and that's a big clue here , if you're stuck you can figure out all three quite easily!
But I implore thee {lol} not to cheat, try to get this without cheating for the sake of the art dear man !!!
It's Automatic in this category !!!
These three films get a Free Pass !!!
Can you name them ALL?

JAWS loved it as a kid and still to this day. It was one of those movies that freaked me out but still really enjoyed and watched a lot. And I think its b/c of Jaws that started my love for sharks. Kind of ironic when you think about it lol
Also since I was a kid I would have a dream once in a while with the shark actual shark from jaws

MemberOvomorph12/15/2011Must interject.... I once saw this movie called Creature... when I was a kid, I realized it may have been somewhat of a ripoff of Alien. Took me a couple of years to differentiate between the two lol (i.e. the alien design). Am I the only one who thinks this????

MemberOvomorph12/15/2011For me it was the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The notion that we would lose, as a species just disturbed me as a child. Not to mention Leonard Nimoy being at the head of the entire invasion.

Way back in time, when I was a teen i was watching that; a friend of mine asked me if I had ever seen a movie bloody stupid like this... I said no. Thereupon we laughed till being devastated.

YES !
The first film was the Exorcist. the 2nd was Psycho, and the last one was the hardest but has an even greater and densely bleak atmosphere about 5 times that of the original Alien and it was called "Nosferatu" which along with 1926's "Faust", are probably the reason movies like Alien and Aliens ever got made to begin with!!!

Creature's makers started a law suit against the makers of Alien and dropped it after deciding it was not in their best interest to sue and might not be that easy to prove.

MemberOvomorph12/16/2011The movie that left a huge mark on my soul, (after Alien because thats number one) is Contact. I think because of how it takes place in the present (at that time but doesnt matter) and combines that with this ultimate discovery we've been waiting for, in a believable way that we directl relate to. I think the number of times I saw Contact equals with Alien.

MemberOvomorph12/18/20112 films, both of which made 2 common place objects very scary.
1st was Prince of Darkness by John Carpenter, that thing freaked me out with mirrors for days
the second was Ring, the original Film (there was a japanese tv series which predates that as well) which i fortunately saw before the remake was even conceived of. I was 21 and i thought i was past seeing something original or truly scary in horror films. I know it was a film, i get that it wasn't real, but i just felt better when i turned my computer monitor away from my bed before trying to sleep. If anything RIng was far more effective on dvd than it was in the cinema. Making you scared of the thing you're watching it on. Genius

MemberTrilobite12/18/2011Gotta add to this...
Films that shook me to my very soul...
Schindlers List - Anyone who at the very least doesn't have a lump in their throat at the end of this movie is just heartless.
Carrie - I spent months looking under my bed expecting that hand to grab me lol.
The Crow - RIP Brandon Lee, the scene in which he ad libs in Ernie Hudsons about how important the little things are gets me everytime.
Inception - A recent addition granted, but we have all been there - realising we are dreaming, having a dream within a dream (I have at least).
Matrix Trilogy - Droll is what you are all thinking but I challenge you to watch each back to back with your brain turned and you'll realise there is more there than you ever thought.
