MemberTrilobite12/25/2011Just watched the Prometheus trailer for the millionth time and noticed a familiar shape in the background when the Prometheus' garage doors open...

See for yourself, when the door lowers a familiar shape can be seen with two high walls on either side. After a tiny bit of searching I found the images of that familiar shape...

My theory is that this is the exterior of the "temple"...

MemberOvomorph12/25/2011if you take the frame after ...with the door more open ..you see a sort of rectangular shape under the "temple head" so yes are probably not rocks ...

Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/25/2011The question remains however, what style of head is atop the temple? Human, Xeno or other?

Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/25/2011Thats the one, looks like the temple dome is situated dead centre, probably surrounded by a circular wall from the definition seen in Frantz's image.

MemberOvomorph12/25/2011yes it mean that the derelict maybe arrive later , called by something .... and they already know that is a menace ....

MemberOvomorph12/25/2011My Lord, if you'll excuse the expression, is that ever a beautiful structure.
I would dearly love to see that conceptual artwork right there above me translated and converted and presented and inserted and on Dashin' and on Dixon Into The Film !!!
HoHoHo !

MemberOvomorph12/25/2011If you scan the leaked trailer you will see the hanger scene showed more of the temple walls not to mention that leaping WTF that is reminiscent of the facehugger. ALIEN has been an addiction since 1985-86 and seems like I wont be able to kick the habit! OMG, summer 2012 is too far away! In my brain, no one can hear me scream!!!

MemberOvomorph12/25/2011there is a pretty compelling comparison to the shape of the structure in these vintage
Giger paintings, and the shape of the terrain in the Prometheus trailer as the hatch of
that vessel opens revealing the landscape
it would be fantastic if in fact,
Scott used that particular Giger painting as the basis for the Engineer's long lost
citadel that was left and buried on Earth over time. i do hope that is the case here
the MORE now classic Giger - - the BETTER.

MemberOvomorph12/25/2011i still wish that the structure was gigers pyramid

MemberOvomorph12/26/2011Can anyone give my factual opinions... I believe we are the shells for the xenomorph species... It only makes sense.

MemberOvomorph12/26/2011Sorry to burst the enthusiasm guys but...... the "temple" painting, the large outside structure with the gun looking thing, was actually a piece of concept art for an unmade version of Dune that Giger was working on with O'Bannon before je wrote the original Alien script, i believe it was supposed to be Baron Harkonnen. I that film had been made it would have been great as i believe that as well as Giger that Dali was going to be involved as well.

MemberOvomorph12/26/2011I think you're right. The design for House Harkonnen, the floating fat man.

MemberOvomorph12/26/2011The illustrations at the top I believe were Harkonnen temple designs for Jodorowski's aborted Dune project. either way it's good to see Giger's designs back on screen larger than life (so to speak)

Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/26/2011Ah, Giger's version of the pyramid from the original concepts of Alien...

I've always imagined that this is what a xeno hive would look like, in the wild (so to speak).
And whether the artwork Giger came up with for Dune was unused as intended or used in a little known Japanese TV commercial, it doesn't detract from the point that it can clearly be seen when the Prometheus garage doors open.
IMO, it looks as though Ridley has used a great body of Giger's work for the Space Jockey environment, structures and lore. Which makes sense when it was Giger who designed and sculpted the Space Jockey in the first place in Alien. Now that he is not as young as he once was it seems Ridley has brought in assistance to realise Gigers designs.

MemberOvomorph12/27/2011Think Prometheus definitely visits the Temple.
To quote from Wikipedia/The Book of Alien:
"The origin of the jockey creature was not explored in the film, but Scott later theorized that it might have been the ship's pilot, and that the ship might have been a weapons carrier capable of dropping Alien eggs onto a planet so that the Aliens could use the local lifeforms as hosts. In early versions of the script the eggs were to be located in a separate pyramid structure which would be found later by the Nostromo crew and would contain statues and hieroglyphs depicting the Alien reproductive cycle, offering a contrast of the human, Alien, and space jockey cultures. Cobb, Foss, and Giger each created concept artwork for these sequences, but they were eventually discarded due to budgetary concerns and the need to trim the length of the film."
Think Prometheus will have many of these original ideas from RS. Can't wait.

MemberFacehuggerMar-19-2012 1:39 AMI didn't read the second page to realize my first post was redudant. But in the comic book adaptation of Alien, you get to see the crew of the Nostromo find the derelict and the pyramid. It adds some depth, but it wasn't necessary to get the story told. In the context of Alien, hieroglyphs would have muddled things up a bit.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 10:56 PMThe last pyramid image from Giger was actually used as an Alien hive's pure form in one of the comics from Dark Horse... drawn by Kilian Plunkett.
