To know or not to know?

The xenomorph and the Space Jockey had powerful impact as they were mysteries.
We did not know what they were. The organic design of the derelict ship had impact because it was so foreign.
As much as we WANT to know all the background and facts about Xeno and SJ, part of the Magic of the film is it is still a mystery.
Yes, we will see much more in Prometheus, the story will advance and we will learn much more, BUT I hope it does not try to answer EVERY question.
My analogy: in 2001: A Space Odyssey (SRs inspiration for SF films) we "meet" the monolith, but the mystery only deepens. Rather than find that frustrating, I find it breathtaking. The mystery lifted to a higher level.
My other childhood comparison: The Hobbit had an air of mystery in that it introduced history and characters that impacted you but you did not quite understand them (much like how a child views the world). In Lord Of The Rings (with it's Appendices and The Silmarillion) we are given all the facts. As breathtaking as the action is in LOTR, it did not have the same sense of childhood magic as the orginal Hobbit.
Prometheus is about we go looking for our beginning, and we find.....????
If you meet Your Maker, will Your Maker still be a mystery you do not quite understand?
Is not understanding everything part of the Aura that you need?
:)
Anyway, we want some "mystery" left for the next film after Prometheus!
(Last comment: never ending convoluted mysteries do not always work either: Lost anyone? Dare I say X-Files last season anyone????)
