MemberTrilobite12/27/2011Having been on these forums for a while I have been able to gauge a lot of peoples expectations for what they expect and hope to see in Prometheus. Many, many times I have seen fellow members expecting answers to the many unanswered questions in Alien:
1. The Signal - Originally thought to be an SOS, later confirmed to be a warning by Ripley. Warning signal suggest the Space Jockey's are benign, the Derelicts cargo suggests otherwise.
2. The Derelict - Obviously a crashed Space Jockey vessel. How and when did it crash?
3. The Space Jockey - A huge, dead, bio-mechanical alien "fossilized" in his chair. Who is he, where is he from?
4. The Hole In The Chest - The Space Jockey had a outward bursting hole in his chest, presumably after falling victim to a Facehugger. Where is the dead Facehugger, Where is the resulting Aliens discarded skin, where id the resulting Alien?
5. Hole In The Floor - To the right and slightly in front of the dead alien pilot is a acid-burnt hole leading to the egg chamber below. Did the Facehugger make the hole on the way up or did the Alien make the hole on the way down?
6. The Egg Chamber - Underneath the Derelict's "cockpit", seemingly the whole underside of the Derelict was filled with thousands, possibly millions of Alien eggs, purposefully protected by a layer of "laser-mist". Why was Derelict carrying so many eggs, where do the eggs come from, why was only one row protected by the "laser-mist".
7. Order 937 - Synthetic replacement science officer Ash was planted on board the Nostromo to carry out and supervise Order 937 - Nostromo rerouted to new co-ordinates, Investigate life form, Gather specimen, Priority One, Ensure return of organism for analysis, All other considerations secondary, Crew expendable. The Company (Weylan(d)-Yutani) obviously already knew of location of the Derelict, what cargo it contained and how valuable it was (backed up by Ash's beheaded speech regarding a creature he should have known very little about). When and how did the Company become aware of all of this.
However, it is my opinion, which seems to be confirmed by Ridley Scott himself that Prometheus will only answer the following questions - How did the company know where the Derelict was, and when/how did the derelict crash.
All the other questions are related to the Alien movies and franchise which Prometheus is only part of by way of the Space Jockey, thus it is my opinion that they will remain unanswered in Prometheus or any Prometheus sequels.

funny to say that in the italian version Ripley say that "sounded more as a menace " ... they had no idea how big that translation error would be ... anyway THAT space jockey could be more benign ..because is a special one ( ex crew maybe ? )
2. The Derelict - Obviously a crashed Space Jockey vessel. How and when did it crash?
i think we will find and answer to this
3. The Space Jockey - A huge, dead, bio-mechanical alien "fossilized" in his chair. Who is he, where is he from?
there will be surely an answer to this
4. The Hole In The Chest - The Space Jockey had a outward bursting hole in his chest, presumably after falling victim to a Facehugger. Where is the dead Facehugger, Where is the resulting Aliens discarded skin, where id the resulting Alien?
probable answer to this too ...
5. Hole In The Floor - To the right and slightly in front of the dead alien pilot is a acid-burnt hole leading to the egg chamber below. Did the Facehugger make the hole on the way up or did the Alien make the hole on the way down?
not answers for this imho ....but could be great to see that alien killed by someone at the end of prometheus :)

i think we will find some sort of answer ..expecially regarding the meaning of lasers .
7. Order 937 - Synthetic replacement science officer Ash ....
Im not sure about this ...the order can leave space to many interpretations regarding the effective knowledge of the company about it ..and i think that this can be the only question that will remain not solved !

MemberTrilobite12/27/2011Personally I don't think anything in regards to the Alien itself will be answered, IMO Prometheus is NOT an Alien movie.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorph12/27/2011But that's the whole thing of it...This is exactly what Ridley Wanted...If He does now, everyone or rather, many many fans of the franchise will be so frikking happy and if he doesn't answer any of those questions but the film is great no one will care and regard it as justification to keep the franchise going...either way...Scott wins.

MemberOvomorph12/27/2011But in one interview Ridley say in the last moments of the movie we will see something, perhaps the falling of the ship where the space jockey is in,on LV426.

MemberTrilobite12/27/2011And as I've stated many times here, IMO that is the only link to Alien we will see in Prometheus - the crashing Derelict.

MemberOvomorph12/27/2011I believe there will be a lot more links to the Alien Franchise than anyone thinks. For starters all the set designs duplicate the Nostromo from alien, or should I say is influenced. This movie was originally going to be a prequel to Alien, and even though Ridley says this movie stands on it's own, this doesn't mean it will be a completely separate film, having zero to do with the Alien Franchise. @Snorkelbottom, I've seen your story board breakdowns... Very impressive, and basically spot on. My theory is this, the humans mutate into the Aliens, and the Engineers use us at some sort of experiment in perhaps creating the Aliens. I mean it makes the most sense and is the least lame theory I can think of. OR plain and simple... They were already created before we got there. SO... He's a clever director and I know this is something they have been talking about for years; so I have faith all these loos-ends will be answered.

MemberOvomorph12/27/2011Snorky,
A viscous YELLOW liquid that so far all we have seen do is cause acid like pain on whoever it comes in contact with, are you kidding me, if that isn't a direct link to Both Alien & Aliens I do not know what is!
Not only will there be links, But I think ALL of the unanswered questions Frantz mentioned will most certainly be answered, and with some new twists and angles added to them.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorph12/27/2011at the same time ya know I would be surprised Snorky if Ridley just blew his entire wad for this thing with the trailer, but also, you could be totally right, I mean the scene in the trailer has to be near or at the end of the film right?...or does it...?...
Truly no one is gonna know for another 6 months.
But there are things to be said for your angle on this and you could be 100% correct here!!!
Perhaps we will come out of this thing with More Questions than answers !!!

MemberOvomorph12/27/2011Well also we do know that one of the crew members goes crazy, and it's the one that was exposed to the acid... or whatever boobytrap he got himself into.

MemberOvomorph12/27/2011One of the major themes of all the Alien movies, was the abuse of corporations, and the exploitation of the worker.
The main question that lies behind every one of the movies that was never answered is: how did the company know of the exsistance of the alien? To me, that is the core and only question that really needs to be answered. Everything else comes from it. That question is the link between Prometheus and Alien, and I believe that that is what Prometheus will answer.
I would not be surprised if we find that same signal that the Nostromo picked up, being in Prometheus.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorph12/27/2011Never was a question for me,
We knew from the beginning that "the company" made a standard practice of having an android on board every single one of it's missions. Burke even mentions it in the mess hall in Aliens. They are made to serve the company's interests, 1st and always.

MemberOvomorph12/28/2011How do you know that LV-426 is even in the movie? The planet in the trailer looks nothing like it. Oh, man I hope it doesn't turn out to be prehistoric earth that they got to through a wormhole....

MemberOvomorph12/28/2011But Snorkel, why would the derelict in Prometheus be the same one as Alien? How would you (or the film-makers) explain the huge storage area where the eggs were found under the ship? Until I see the film, I will stick with my theory that the planet in Prometheus is NOT LV-426
