MemberOvomorph12/30/2011If you create a timeline involving radio transmissions from the downed Prometheus expediton back to SOL. Zeta Reticuli is 38.6 LY's from Earth. If the first updates from the expedition reached Weyland corp 40 years later, versus the return of the expedition (If Prometheus can only travel at C) then the first order of business would be to investigate the site of the crash and recover any confidential materials, and or data discovered by them. Remember that life continued back here over the course of their journey. Weyland merged with Yutani. The Nostromo's crew had never seen anything like the derelict before. Unfortunately that wasn't true for the exec's that signed their paychecks.

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011The Puzzle is the correllation between the signal relay time and the Nostromo's arrival there. The question is simple, were the events connected? None of the questions raised on this site are new. Fans of the Alien franchise have been asking the same things for decades. The only new bits of information are the additions to the time line, and the subsequent theories as to the purpose, outcome, and ultimate fate of that first expediton to Zeta Ret.

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011For this to be true the events of the movie need to take place near Zeta Reticuli, which is where Archeron/LV-426 is located. At that point one would also have to assume that the SJ ship in Prometheus is the same one that was crashed on Archeron.
A lot of people believe that this is a different SJ ship on a different planet.

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011Regardless what planet the Derelict crashed on, the whole travel/time/relativity thing going on needs to be addressed. I heard in one of the movie discriptions, that faster than light speed is discovered. Or some sort of means to travel quickly. Anyway, even if the crew left Earth and traveled 30 years at near light speed, Earth would have aged a few hundred years. Plus the time for the transmission to come back to earth. So I'm guessing we will have to have some sort of mechanism that deals with this stuff..

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011Regarding hyperspace travel, this was discovered around the mid 21st century no exact date was ever established. I certainly don't think the distress call was from the Prometheus. It was noted in some early drafts (again I've probably posted this already) that the signal was intercepted a while before the Nostromo left Earth for Thedus, giving the Company time to put Ash on board and reprogramme MU-TH-UR before the Nostromo left Earth in October 2120.
